I’ll forget about everything that happened today. This sentence rendered Duanmu Xue speechless. She stared at Han Muzi, who was sitting at the corner and leaning against the wall. Even though Han Muzi looked flustered, when compared to Duanmu Xue, her eyes were firm and calm—as if she had strategized her next steps.
Although Duanmu Xue was the Young Lady in the family, Han Muzi’s confidence had dominated the situation. Duanmu Xue was not pleased as she felt she was not less capable than her. She bit her lips, feeling unsatisfied. “Untie you? And you will treat this as if it never happened?”
Han Muzi was so nervous that her palms were sweaty. Confronting an insane person did scare her. She might look normal now, but nobody knew what she would do in the next second. However, Duanmu Xue’s condition did not seem that serious as she could still communicate with Han Muzi. As long as Han Muzi guided her step-by-step, she believed Duanmu Xue would not hurt her.
“Yes.” Han Muzi nodded. “I’ll forget whatever that happened today.”
Duanmu Xue gnashed her teeth in anger. “How’s that possible? I abducted you here; how could you say you’d treat it as if it never happened? You’re lying to me, aren’t you? The moment you step out of here, you’ll inform Ye Moxuan, and then my grandfather. I’ll be over then.”
Han Muzi responded, “That won’t happen.” She continued quickly and firmly, “I always keep my word. If I say I won’t remember a thing, I won’t mention it after we get out of here.”
Duanmu Xue laughed dryly. “Do you think I’d believe it? You’re saying all these just so that you can save yourself! Fortunately, I’m not stupid!”
“That’s right.” Han Muzi pursed her lips and nodded. “I’m trying to save myself. But I’m also trying to save you.”
“What are you saying?”
“Am I wrong? If anything happens to me, do you think you can get away with it?” Han Muzi shook her head. “You can’t. I’ve gone missing, and you are the biggest suspect. By the time the Yuchi family and the Duanmu family join in the investigation, you will be exposed. If you let me go now and we get out of here together, I’ll be okay and so will you. No one would suspect you in the slightest. After a while, when your grandfather has calmed down, you’ll be able to return to your status as the Young Lady of the Duanmu family. Why would you wanna do otherwise?”
As much as Duanmu Xue hated her, she could not deny that what Han Muzi said made perfect sense. If anything happened to Han Muzi, she would not be able to get away with it. However, could she trust her? Could she really treat it as if nothing had happened?
“You’re not a saint, so you make mistakes. But if you correct them now, you’ll still have a chance. Duanmu Xue, even though I’ve not liked you since I first saw you—your drugging of Ye Moxuan made me dislike you even more and question your morality—it doesn’t mean that you can’t turn over a new leaf and go back to your status as Young Lady Xue. Wouldn’t that be a great thing?”
By the look in her eyes, one could tell that Duanmu Xue was somehow persuaded.
Han Muzi grasped the opportunity and leaned closer toward her. “I’ve been unconscious for a while, so I don’t how much time has passed. If you have already thought it through, we should act fast; otherwise, if we wait a little more, they might come knocking on the door.”
These words caused Duanmu Xue to react instantly. “What? They might come and find us?”
“Of course. If I’m not back yet, they might even call the police. So… we better leave here before the police come. When the time comes, I’ll help you with the explanation.”
Duanmu Xue hesitated. Han Muzi was calm and patiently waited for her to respond.
After a while, Duanmu Xue slowly walked toward her. She knelt on the ground next to her and started moving her hands around the ropes that she was tied up with. Han Muzi felt that her heart was pounding in her chest; she hoped that everything could go smoothly after this.
“You really would explain on my behalf?” Duanmu Xue rested her hands on the ropes and looked up at her with some doubt.
Han Muzi pursed her lips and looked her in the eye. “I would never lie to you.”
Her eyes were pure and sincere like fresh spring water—without contamination and ill intention. Duanmu Xue began to shiver. “Y-You don’t hate me? I’ve done so many…”
Hearing her words, Han Muzi displayed a friendly smile on her face. “Even though you abducted me, when I woke up, you had only tied up my hands and feet. You didn’t harm me.”
This was enough to know that Duanmu Xue still had a conscience deep down inside her. Since she still had a conscience, Han Muzi decided to use that to both of their benefits.
“So, I believe you’re not a bad person.”
These words of support meant a lot to Duanmu Xue. She widened her eyes that were already tearing up, though no tears were rolling down. At this juncture, she knew how Han Muzi was different from her. She kept quiet for a while with her eyes closed before she quietly and swiftly untied the ropes.
Soon enough, Han Muzi was released. She was already trying to stand up with the help of the wall before she could stretch her hands and legs.
Nervously, Duanmu Xue stood there and stared at her. “Are we leaving now?”
Han Muzi nodded. “Yes.”
The two had not moved. For the baby’s sake, as much as Han Muzi believed that Duanmu Xue still had a conscience, she still had to be careful.
Duanmu Xue looked at her skeptically. “Why aren’t you moving?”
Han Muzi leaned on the wall and gasped, “My feet are a little numb.” She was telling the truth as her feet were indeed feeling numb after being tied up and having lain flat on the ground for a long time; her hands felt the same way.
As Han Muzi did not look too well, Duanmu Xue did not suspect anything. But, she did not make a move, either. After a while, she asked, “Are your feet feeling better?”
Han Muzi nodded after noticing that Duanmu Xue seemed emotionally stable.
“Let’s go then. Remember that you’ve promised to help me with the explanation. After this, we shall never cross paths again.”
“Sure.”
The two walked toward the door and then opened it. Han Muzi held her breath and slowly walked forward. Before leaving the room, she had already made sure that Duanmu Xue did not have any weapons on her. As long as they parted ways after walking out of that place, she reckoned she would be safe. However, despite all the planning and arrangement, she did not expect the plot twist that was about to take place.
When the two arrived at the stairs, the moment Han Muzi took a step forward, she heard a familiar male voice. “Quick! The surveillance camera got it. They’re upstairs.”
Han Muzi was shocked and subconsciously began to walk faster. But, she was too late.
Duanmu Xue frantically gave her a hard push! “You lied to me!”
