The smile across George’s face almost vanished when Ye Moxuan blocked his way. However, he had to keep up appearances as a man.
“Yuchi, I’m just going to check why the dishes are taking so long to be served. Why are you blocking my way?”
Ye Moxuan shot George an icy and eerie glare without saying anything, and his lips were pursed. Nevertheless, Ye Moxuan’s aura was palpable, and it was so forceful that George took several steps backward.
“Alright, fine. I won’t leave the room, alright? I’ll wait right here for the server to serve our dishes.”
With that, he walked briskly back to the table before signaling Han Muzi with his eyes discreetly before Ye Moxuan came close.
Han Muzi’s hands were underneath the table, so no one could see them. However, she knew that she was fidgeting so hard that her fingers were digging painfully into her skin.
She was extremely anxious because the conversation she had with George was important, but she also wanted to keep it a secret.
However, Ye Moxuan’s appearance was too sudden; in fact, he interrupted them out of the blue.
I’m not even sure… if he has been standing there for quite a while just now, and if he heard my conversation with George.
Hence, she didn’t have the courage to act rashly at that moment, and so Han Muzi remained seated while staring at Ye Moxuan in silence.
Ye Moxuan approached them with heavy footsteps. However, each step he took was like a thump on Han Muzi’s heart.
Her back was covered with a sheen of cold sweat by the time he stopped in front of her. She was conflicted when she looked up at him, and it so happened that she gazed into his dark and seemingly bottomless eyes.
His eyes were their usual black, but they now looked as dark and quiet as the night sky. It was impossible for her to guess his emotions. She tried to say something to smooth things over, but nothing came out after she parted her lips.
Several seconds ticked by, and Ye Moxuan bent down abruptly while grabbing the armrest on Han Muzi’s chair. “Who are you planning to hold captive, huh?” he hissed coldly.
He was so close that she was suddenly shrouded with his masculine scent.
Han Muzi felt suffocated at that moment.
George, who was standing behind him, weighed his options swiftly before approaching him. He spoke to Ye Moxuan tentatively, “We were planning to hold you captive, of course! I was worried when Grandfather Yuchi phoned me last night, and so I made an appointment with your assistant for a chat. We came to the issue of your engagement, and that was why I suggested for her to hold you captive as the last resort. Is that a problem?”
George made all that up under dire circumstances by betting on the possibility that Ye Moxuan only caught the last part of their conversation. Ye Moxuan would have known that he was lying if he had been listening to their entire conversation.
If he doesn’t see through my excuses, it means that he hasn’t eavesdropped on our entire conversation.
As long as I work together with Muzi, we would be able to hide this from him temporarily.
True enough, Ye Moxuan scowled deeply, and his displeasure was reflected upon his eyes.
“He told you about last night?” Ye Moxuan directed the question at Han Muzi.
She was astonished, but she nodded blankly.
She blinked at George, who was still standing behind Ye Moxuan. Han Muzi finally sighed in relief when George gave her a pointed look while flashing her an ‘OK’ gesture.
Judging by Ye Moxuan’s tone, he hasn’t heard our entire conversation. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be asking this question now.
Han Muzi cleared her throat and avoided Ye Moxuan’s gaze. “Mm-hmm, I know everything.”
Ye Moxuan’s pupils constricted before he reached out straight away to grab her fair wrist.
Han Muzi was stunned to silence, whereas George, who was observing from the side, couldn’t help but ask mischievously, “Well, Yuchi, why are you grabbing your secretarial assistant’s hand? Are the two of you together? In that case, should I address her as my sister-in-law instead of your assistant from now on?”
Sister-in-law?
Ye Moxuan’s eyebrows shot up in surprise at that because he thought George’s suggestion was not far off.
Thus, he put a bit of force and lifted Han Muzi from the chair before embracing her tightly. Then, he stared at George in disdain.
“You are not to kidnap my woman without my permission in the future.”
George was rendered speechless by his reaction.
Damn it! He claims that she belongs to him so casually when they just got together not too long ago. He is even hugging her so tightly in front of me.
George was rather jealous of their intimacy.
However, he couldn’t help but feel sympathetic for Han Muzi when he recalled what she said to him earlier. He was her lover, and they were already at the stage of getting married, but she just couldn’t tell him that.
George realized that he was truly being more emotionally invested in Han Muzi!
She is so considerate about others’ feelings despite suffering herself. Han Muzi is completely different from Duanmu Xue, who only cares about her own happiness and enjoys the attention even if she doesn’t necessarily like the person’s company. She might smile to you on the surface, but she would criticize you behind your back.
How could two people be so vastly different?
George lamented in his heart.
“Alright, fine. I know she belongs to you. From now on, I’ll report to you before meeting with Muzi, alright? Though honestly, I wouldn’t get any ideas around her anyway. I was just chatting with her.”
Ye Moxuan still had a chilly expression. “Chatting is not allowed too.”
George is a man after all. Even if I know that he wouldn’t get any ideas, I just can’t help but feel uneasy that she is with another man, especially when they are out without informing me.
Initially, Ye Moxuan was planning to summon her to his office after work.
However, no one answered his call, and later on, he learned that George took her away. Ye Moxuan rushed over and heard the last bit of George’s comment to Han Muzi.
Hence, he frowned unhappily when he recalled what George said earlier and warned him, “You shouldn’t be a bad influence on her.”
George shot him a confused look.
Hang on, what did I do to influence her? Since when have I had any bad influence over her?
“Yuchi, I just realized how much you like to play favoritism. What did I do to influence Muzi?”
Coincidentally, the server served the dishes at that point, and she was astounded since there was an additional person in the private room.
Han Muzi cleared her throat, and she bit her lower lip before speaking to the server, “Excuse me, can you please provide us with an extra set of cutlery?”
“Of course, that’s no problem at all. I will get that prepared right away.”
Han Muzi took the chance to shove against Ye Moxuan to free herself from his grip. However, his arms were wrapped around her waist tightly. She was embarrassed to be so intimate with Ye Moxuan in front of others, especially since George was still around.
Han Muzi tried shoving against Ye Moxuan, but to no avail, and so she whispered, “Please let me go first.”
Ye Moxuan glanced at her from the corners of his eyes. “Huh?”
“I mean we should have our meal first. We can chat about things after this,” Han Muzi explained.
Ye Moxuan did not answer her, but after a while, he released her. Han Muzi then let out a sigh of relief too.
I have experienced a series of traumatic events day after day. I wonder if the baby in my belly might end up as a scaredy-cat in the future…
