Seeing her in this way seemingly reminded Rory of something, which made her blush. She cautiously asked, “Is that—”
Before she could finish her sentence, Han Muzi coughed a few times and interrupted her, “It’s just my allergy acting up. Please don’t overthink.”
Han Muzi calmly denied it, though her ears had turned extremely red. She picked up the chopsticks and commented, “Let’s dig in and stop thinking about any other nonsense.”
Rory smiled at her and nodded. After a while, she looked up at Han Muzi. “We’ve both known each other for quite some time now, but I never got your WeChat ID. Should we add each other?”
Thinking that she was alone abroad and might sometimes need help, Han Muzi nodded and exchanged her WeChat details with Rory.
When Han Muzi’s phone vibrated, she took a look at it and noticed it was a text from Su Jiu, telling her that she was available now and she could give her call whenever she was available.
Han Muzi did some calculations, which told her that Su Jiu had just gotten up. She then started eating quicker. At this point, Rory was slightly confused. “Why are you eating so quickly all of a sudden? Are you in a rush?”
“Yes.” Han Muzi simply put some food into her mouth and had a few sips of soup.
“Slow down. Don’t choke yourself.” Rory was worried for her after seeing the way she ate.
Under normal circumstances, Han Muzi would never eat this way. Today was an exception as she had important things to tell Su Jiu, and she did not know how long the call would take. She felt that she could not bother her all the time.
Han Muzi brashly swallowed the soup in her mouth and briefly touched her chest. She then told Rory, “I’m finished. I have things to do so I’ll have to go now. I’ll see you later.”
She put her silverware away and took the elevator to go downstairs to make the phone call. Giving Su Jiu a call at the office was not a wise choice. As there were many people around, it would not be good if anyone heard the conversation.
Therefore, Han Muzi found a coffee shop nearby and ordered a cup of coffee. She put her headphones on and gave Su Jiu a call.
“Miss Muzi, it’s probably around noon time for you right now. Is this a good time?”
“Don’t worry about me.” Han Muzi looked around and whispered, “I don’t have to be back in the office yet.”
“No problem. Miss Muzi, what did you have in mind?”
“Alright.” Han Muzi then explained all her doubts and questions to Su Jiu before she heavily commented, “To be honest, I’ve had this inkling since the beginning. But… I didn’t want to continue to dig in that direction since I felt that… it could not be possible. But now, I feel like things are way more complicated than we think.”
After hearing that, Su Jiu kept quiet for a long time before she responded, “You have a point. I had the same question when we asked our guys to look for Young Master Ye since we haven’t been able to get our hands on any information about him. If it wasn’t because of our guys who randomly saw him, we wouldn’t have known where he is right now.”
These words made Han Muzi frown even harder. After she heard her words, she felt even more worried and helpless.
“However, Miss Muzi, aren’t you close to Young Master Ye right now? Since you have some intimate interactions with him, you might as well… find an excuse and bring him for a checkup at the hospital.”
Han Muzi closed her eyes. “I’m still very worried that things may change. Secretary Su, I’d like you… to help me contact someone.”
“Who?”
“Ye Moxuan’s aunty—Song An.”
“Madam Song who lives in Su City?”
“Yes.”
Song An was invited to their wedding but she rejected the invitation the moment she heard that the wedding was going to be held abroad. She was still decently young but she said she was not healthy enough to travel abroad.
She regretfully apologized that she could not witness their wedding. In the end, it was only when Ye Moxuan told her that they would hold another Chinese-style wedding that she promised to attend. After that, the plane accident happened, and Han Muzi did not know what happened to Song An.
Han Qing probably took care of all the practical things for her.
Since Song An was the daughter of Grandfather Yuchi, only when they ran out of options would they choose to approach Song An to ask about what took place and why Ye Moxuan’s grandfather would do what he did.
“Miss Muzi, I fully understand what you’ve just told me. I will contact Madam Song as soon as I can, just that… after I get a hold of her…”
“Just be honest. Tell her everything that has happened recently.”
Su Jiu responded, “Alright. Got it.”
“Thank you, Secretary Su. Not only do you help take care of my brother’s company’s affairs, but you also helped me… I really don’t know how else to thank you.”
Su Jiu smiled and commented, “You can ask your brother to give me a pay rise.”
Han Muzi chuckled upon hearing this. “Alright. If I speak to him, I will mention this to him.”
They chit-chatted a little more before hanging up. After hanging up, Han Muzi sat idly while watching everyone who was walking outside through the window. It’s almost the new year, isn’t it?
Even though she had spent New Year’s abroad before, for the past five years, she had many friends and family around. Even if Han Qing was abroad, he would always fly back to visit her. Yan and Little Bean were always with her too. But this year… would she have the opportunity to bring Ye Moxuan to spend the New Year with everyone else?
While sitting at the coffee shop, Han Muzi checked her Instagram. Yan had just uploaded many photos of Little Bean which she was attentively scrolling through one by one. When it was almost time, Han Muzi headed back to the office.
…
At the Duanmu Residence.
Bang! Smash! Bang!
From within the room came the sound of things being smashed on the floor. A group of maids were standing outside the door and did not dare to go in. They could only shout from the outside, “Miss Duanmu, please don’t be mad anymore. These things are precious to you. You have had them for such a long time. Please don’t—”
Before she could finish her sentence, a crystal ornament was thrown at her. That maid quickly avoided it, but the person behind her who was less quick was not as fortunate—she got hit in the head and fell on the stone-cold floor.
“She’s bleeding!” Those around her wanted to pull her up, but Duanmu Xue could not stop throwing things around in the house. They were afraid that they would be the next victims.
The maid who was bleeding in her head could only bury her face in her knees. At this point, another crystal ornament was being thrown and was heading for her head again.
“Move away!”
“Miao!”
Bang! In a flash, a figure appeared in front of the maid and kicked the ornament away.
Smash! The crystal hit the wall and broke into thousands of pieces.
“Young Master…” Everyone greeted him as he had appeared and saved their lives.
