“Ow!” George yelped in pain and backed away, reaching up to cover his eyes with his hands. “Muzi, are you trying to kill me?”
“George?” Han Muzi sat up. Her heart was still beating wildly. “Why are you here?” The moment she opened her eyes, she saw his face up close, staring right at her. It’s easy to get frightened, alright?
He clutched at his eyes that were hit, looked at her pitifully, and whimpered, “I just wanted to create an opportunity for you and Yuchi, but…”
Watching him clutching at his eyes, she realized that she had lashed out in a panic just now. She didn’t even know where she had hit him. The back of her hand was aching slightly at the moment—to say nothing of how George must have felt.
“I’m sorry.” she sat up and looked at George apologetically. “Did I hit your eyes? I panicked when I saw you right in front of me the moment I woke up… That’s why I…”
Having said that, her gaze toward him was filled with guilt. “I’m sorry about that. Why don’t you take your hand away and let me check if you’re injured?”
Her serious and apologetic manner made him feel slightly embarrassed. He shook his head and removed his hands from his eyes. “Oh, I lied to you. I’m totally fine! Since you’re awake, hurry up and come with me, Muzi!”
“Where to?” She was puzzled. She saw that George’s eyes were slightly swollen, and she wondered if it would turn into a bruise later.
“I’m bringing you to Yuchi.” After saying that—regardless of whether she intended to agree or not—he pulled her up from the sofa. “Hurry up, Yuchi will leave the company if we dilly-dally any longer.”
“Okay.” Only then did Han Muzi hurriedly put on her shoes and follow him out the door.
As they walked along the quiet corridor, George said to her, “If you like Yuchi, then you have to make haste. You must not let the chance to have lunch together be wasted just like that! It’s a great chance for you to bond with him. You have to win him over before he gets engaged.”
At first, Han Muzi had been walking normally, but she stopped in her tracks suddenly when she heard those words. She raised her eyes and gave him a dumbfounded look. “W-What did you just say?”
“I just said…” Halfway through his sentence, he widened his eyes in shock and covered his mouth with his hands. Sh*t, I accidentally said too much! He didn’t know what kind of person she was. If she heard that Yuchi was about to get engaged, would she give up suddenly? Ahhh, what is wrong with me! How could I just casually let it slip out like that?!
“Muzi, I was talking nonsense just now. Please don’t get the wrong idea! How could Yuchi possibly get engaged so easily? He’s the kind of person whose nature is as cold as ice—there are barely any women that can catch his attention. I’ve known him for so long; you’re the only person I’ve ever seen him treat differently.” He desperately tried to salvage the situation, lest she changed her mind. However, her brows were tightly furrowed together—as if something grave had just happened.
“No… Muzi, I was just talking nonsense just now. Don’t take it seriously…”
Han Muzi lifted her eyes to look at him calmly and coldly. “If this kind of thing wasn’t true, how could you possibly have let it slip?”
Honestly, she knew Ye Moxuan’s personality very well. She knew he wouldn’t get engaged with another person; she also knew… that she was considered special, perhaps due to the feelings he had for her from before. Even so, he had forgotten about her. When she learned that he had lost his memories—that he had forgotten her—her heart was filled with anguish and sorrow.
He can forget about everyone else, but why did he have to forget about me too? Am I not important? Later on, she realized that it wasn’t his choice to get into an accident. If she blamed him for this, then she was just being unreasonable and nitpicking unnecessarily.
“Muzi, even if it was true, I told you just now too: Yuchi wouldn’t get engaged with someone so simply. Stop worrying about it.”
She said nothing. After giving him a cold look, she stepped forward and continued walking. But great changes were happening in her heart.
If one was to describe her as full of anticipation, joy, and hope before, then now, she was definitely… depressed and demotivated. A wave of sourness filled her chest. At the thought of him having a verbal engagement with or getting engaged to another woman, her heart ached unendingly—it was a mixture of all sorts of uneasiness. Halfway through, she suddenly stated, “I’m not feeling too well, so I won’t be going with you.”
George was confused. “Muzi, you can’t be like this. This is such a rare opportunity; if you don’t treasure it, what are you going to do if Yuchi gets stolen away?”
Han Muzi shrugged nonchalantly. “He’s not mine anyway. Even if he got stolen away, what could I possibly do? Besides, he’s not a toy; how can he be stolen?”
George was speechless at her words. That’s true. Yuchi Shen is a person; not an item. How could he be stolen away? “It’s all because I misspoke!” George suddenly raised his hand and slapped himself hard across the face. “I shouldn’t have let my mouth run wild! Please forgive me, Muzi!”
The sudden slap across his face shocked her. Seeing that he was about to slap himself again on the other cheek, she hurriedly grabbed his hand. “Stop that! Don’t be like this!” He looked at her pitifully. “Are you really not going, Muzi?”
She was silent. “Alright, I’ll go with you.”
“That’s great!”
Han Muzi let out a silent sigh. “Why are you helping me like this? We clearly… don’t know each other well. Yet, you keep trying to match the two of us together. Aren’t you afraid I might turn out to be a bad person?”
“I believe that you are sincere toward Yuchi, and I also believe in my eye for people. Don’t worry, I’ll help the two of you. People mutually in love should be together, and not… separated like strangers.”
She noticed that his voice became considerably forlorn toward the end of his sentence, and so she couldn’t help asking, “Did something sad happen to you?”
George quickly hid the emotions in his eyes and replaced them with other emotions instead. “Something sad? What could I possibly be sad about? Let’s go! Let’s go!”
He walked forward, quickening his pace as he spoke. She stared at his back and mulled over it. George’s past… Forget it, why am I thinking about other people’s problems? Right now, her affairs were in a hot mess. If she couldn’t even get her affairs in order, where would she even find the time to bother about other people’s affairs?
Following behind George, they entered Ye Moxuan’s office together. They coincidentally ran into Ye Moxuan as he was preparing to leave with his coat and keys in his hand.
“Are you going out for lunch, Yuchi? That’s perfect! It just so happens that your assistant and I haven’t eaten yet, either; why don’t you bring us along?”
Han Muzi was speechless. Is it okay to demand so blatantly? If she knew George was going to do this, she wouldn’t have followed him here.
