“What are you saying, Grandfather Yuchi? You’ve made us sound like bad guys… How can you say we combined forces to bully you? I’ve just found out about this myself!” George smiled and reached out his hand to pat Yuchi Jin’s chest. His voice became considerably gentler as he cajoled Yuchi Jin.
“Hmph,” Old Master Yuchi coldly snorted and pushed George’s hand away roughly. “As if I’ll believe your nonsense! You rotten b*stard; are you the one that led Xuan astray?”
Hearing those words, George instantly widened his eyes and shook his head saying, “No, no, no. You know Xuan’s personality very well. How could I possibly influence his decisions?”
Yuchi Jin narrowed his eyes and looked over at Ye Moxuan. They might not have known each other for a long time, but Yuchi Shen’s personality was exactly like how George had described. Yuchi Shen may have lost his memories, but his core nature remained unchanged—he was headstrong.
One’s nature is deeply ingrained—it doesn’t change. At this, Yuchi Jin’s thoughts drifted to his eldest daughter. At that time… Xin was equally stubborn. She had refused to comply with his arrangements and relentlessly insisted that her decisions were correct—that was why she had ended up like that.
Thinking about Yuchi Xin, his eyes seemed to age considerably in an instant. That daughter of his had brought him a lot of heartaches. Therefore, Yuchi Jin’s gaze toward Ye Moxuan suddenly became less harsh. He spoke laboriously, “You two brats, get out of here. I want to be alone for a bit.”
“Grandfather Yuchi, are you okay? Should I stay back to counsel you?” George asked.
“I’m an old man, do I need a brat like you to give me advice? Scram; both of you get out.” Yuchi Jin picked up his walking stick and gestured for them to leave the room. George could only retreat quickly. Ye Moxuan got up too, his gaze falling on Yuchi Jin. He indifferently said, “We’ll be leaving then. Grandfather, take good care of your health.”
“Hmph!” Yuchi Jin coldly snorted; he turned his head away, ignoring Ye Moxuan.
George followed Ye Moxuan out of the study. They walked quite a distance away before George spoke up, “What does that mean? Is Grandfather Yuchi going to respect your wishes?”
Ye Moxuan didn’t respond, but his brows unwittingly furrowed deeply. It wasn’t quite as simple as he had previously thought—his grandfather’s decision this time did not seem like a spontaneous idea. Since it was not spontaneous, his grandfather wouldn’t give up so easily. His grandfather’s expression just now seemed like he was deep in thought about something else and simply did not wish to continue discussing this matter for the time being.
“Why aren’t you saying anything? Don’t tell me you’re not the slightest bit anxious? What if he gets you engaged with Duanmu Xue right away?”
Ye Moxuan’s footsteps stopped abruptly, and he raised his eyes coldly. “You should head back first.”
“What do you mean by that? I’m trying to talk to you about something important, and you want to kick me out?”
“Can you change my grandfather’s mind?”
“It… doesn’t seem like I can. Fine, I’ll just leave.” After he said this, he turned around and headed in the other direction while muttering, “I’ll just go back and chat with the assistant on WeChat.”
“Stop right there.” Ye Moxuan’s cold, stern voice came from behind him.
George stopped walking and looked back, snapping crabbily, “What? Didn’t you want me to leave? What else do you want?”
“You’re not allowed to harass her.”
“What the hell?” George’s impatient expression instantly changed to one of amusement. “Finally showing your true colors now? Can’t help lashing out at me now?”
Realizing that Ye Moxuan’s gaze had turned sharp and cold, George hurriedly stepped back a few steps. “Alright, alright, I won’t tease you. In any case, you’ll just keep it all in your heart, right? You’ll never tell anyone. I’m leaving.”
While George left the Yuchi residence, Ye Moxuan walked toward his room. As he stepped into the bathroom, he paused mid-step—suddenly remembering something. The dirty clothes I changed out of… I left them behind in that strange woman’s house.
…
It was a brand-new week.
After resting for two days, Han Muzi’s body finally felt less exhausted and her calves weren’t as swollen and sore. However, work got more hectic after accumulating for two days. She had been so busy since early in the morning, that she didn’t even have the time to sit down and catch her breath. It continued until lunch. By then, she was so tired that she didn’t even have the energy to go downstairs to eat, so she simply slumped on the sofa like a corpse.
Miss Lin couldn’t help laughing when she saw her. “You have terrible stamina! We’ve only been running about all morning, and you’re already down for the count?”
Han Muzi felt slightly embarrassed at those words, and replied apologetically, “I’m sorry Miss Lin; I’m just really tired. I’ll be fine after resting here for a while.”
“It’s out of working hours right now, so you can rest however you like. Young people nowadays really lack exercise; if you’re free, you should wake up earlier in the morning for a jog.”
“I understand, Miss Lin. I’ll take note of it.”
As Miss Lin left, she casually helped Han Muzi close the door to the secretary’s office. Han Muzi lay on the sofa without moving and closed her eyes tiredly.
Ever since she got pregnant, she was constantly lethargic and felt drowsy at every turn. However, since Ye Moxuan’s accident, this condition of hers disappeared. Even if her eyelids were trembling from sleepiness, she forced herself to persevere. Whether she was managing his company for him back in their home country or working here, she had persevered through it all. Luckily, work ended for lunch at 11am. There were two to three hours of rest before she had to get back to work. She didn’t need to rush home; after eating, if she slept here for a bit, she could sleep for a little longer.
She slowly drifted off to sleep while she thought about this. She wasn’t even aware of anybody entering when the door to the secretary’s office opened.
George specifically came looking for Han Muzi. When he arrived, everybody had clocked out already. So, he could only go to the cafeteria to intercept her. Who knew that after waiting at the cafeteria for twenty minutes, he still couldn’t find her. He only came across Rory and called out to her to ask about Han Muzi. She said she had not seen Han Muzi come downstairs, either.
Therefore, George could only trudge upstairs to look for Han Muzi. Pushing open the door to the secretary’s office, he saw a figure curled up on the sofa. “Muzi! Muzi! Wake up!”
Han Muzi seemed to hear somebody calling her name in her sleep. The soft and gentle voice constantly echoed in her ears. However, her eyelids were too heavy—she couldn’t force them open. In her daze, she couldn’t even tell whether it was a dream or reality.
“Muzi, wake up! I’ll bring you to Yuchi.”
Yuchi… Who is Yuchi?
“This is such a great opportunity! Don’t let this chance pass you by! Muzi, stop sleeping…” The person straightened his index finger and prodded her shoulder several times.
Han Muzi’s sleeping bug was finally chased away and she slowly opened her eyes. What came into view was George’s unconventional facial features staring into her face curiously. “Muzi, you’re finally awake?” Seeing her open her eyes, George revealed a huge grin.
“Ah!” Han Muzi snapped to her senses suddenly and shrieked, her hand instinctively slapping George’s face.
