After that, Han Muzi’s thoughts were filled with Ye Moxuan.
George was going to send him a message and have him come over. Although she wanted to see him, she worried that he would get sick of her if she kept using George as a means to meet him. At the thought of that, she said, “Uh, you don’t have to send him a message. That’s enough for today. There’s no rush.”
“Huh?” George was slightly stumped as he held the phone in his hand. “Why not? Isn’t it better for things to progress faster in these situations?”
“No.” She shook her head. “I’m worried he won’t be able to cope.” She had appeared in his life all of a sudden. If she kept showing up around him when he had not even gotten used to her yet, she might unintentionally drive him away. It was better not to risk it.
“But… I’ve sent it already.”
Han Muzi was speechless.
…
Ye Moxuan sat on the couch on the balcony. He held a cup of coffee in one hand, and his phone in the other.
On his day off, he wore a gray, long-sleeved, knitted top and a pair of basic, wide-fit pants. His face looked even more handsome under the sunlight. Had that moment been captured and shared on the internet, netizens would assume it was some celebrity in that photo.
On his phone screen, he had the conversation with George open. Although the photo was not enlarged, he could still see the beautiful outline of the woman. She wore a simple, white, chiffon shirt and her hair was done up messily, yet he could not take his eyes off of her. Her appearance was not exceptionally exquisite and her features were not perfect either. But for some reason, he felt at ease as he looked at her and was inevitably captivated by her.
Then, he pulled his focus back. He placed the coffee in his other hand down and reached up to massage his temples. He knew that George had done this on purpose.
George had invited her to join him for lunch and sent him her photo with the intention of luring him to her. But what about her? Even if George had done all of that on his own will, did she have to follow along ignorantly? Didn’t she know how to be a bit more reserved?
He remembered when she woke up and suddenly hugged him at the secretary’s office the other day. She was not the least bit reserved. At the time, he assumed that perhaps she had mistaken him for someone else and he was not the person she had intended to hug. She was in a dazed state after waking up from a dream so she took him for someone else and hugged him. The more he thought about it, the more irritated he felt.
After a while, his lips curled into a cold smile and he stood up to go outside.
…
“So, you sent him the message the moment you sat down?” Han Muzi asked as she looked at George in slight disbelief. She did not think he would be that fast and thought that she still had time to inform him.
George kept nodding his head, then said, “But… don’t worry, Muzi. I don’t think Yuchi will come.”
She did not know whether to laugh or cry at that. “Are you trying to comfort me or put me down?”
“Ah. I’m not trying to put you down, Muzi. I’m just saying…”
“What did he say though? Did he reply to you?” Regardless, she was still very curious. After losing his memories, how exactly did Ye Moxuan feel about her? What would George tell her about his impression of her?
However, George could not tell her that Yuchi had just replied with a ‘scram’. So, he had to be tactful with his answer. “He’s probably busy as he hasn’t replied yet. I’m guessing he hasn’t even seen it.”
I see. She lowered her eyes; she did not know what to feel on the inside. Indeed, she had wanted to see him. But she was afraid that with the state he was in, he would grow defensive if they met too frequently.
Sigh. She let out a sigh in her mind and did not say any more.
George saw the disappointment in her eyes and quickly changed the topic. “The food here is not bad. You’ll get to try it in a bit, Muzi.”
“Thank you.”
The restaurant prepared their food very quickly. Han Muzi and George had only sat for about ten minutes when the dishes were brought out. She had simply ordered a plate of spaghetti and did not have much of an appetite. George, on the other hand, had an immense appetite and ordered a beef hotpot. When his dish arrived, a trail of steam followed its aromatic scent and the soup was still boiling with little bubbles coming from under it.
His eyes lit up when he saw his food. “This is good stuff, Muzi. You have to try it.”
She did not feel right when she smelled the soup. As such, she frowned—the rich scent had made her slightly uncomfortable. She automatically reached up to cover her nose, but they were in a small room, so it quickly spread all around them. As she was sensitive to the smell, she found it harder and harder to bear and her face was slowly turning sour.
“Muzi, the beef here is really good. Hurry and try it.” George stood up, intending to give some to her.
However, the rich aroma had caused her stomach to churn, and eventually, she could not stand it any longer and ran out with her hand over her mouth.
“Muzi? What happened to you?” George rushed after her.
Han Muzi replied vaguely, “I’m going to the restroom.” With that, she disappeared before his eyes.
George was left confused. He scratched his head then looked back at the private room. Strange. That aroma was nice… but Muzi didn’t seem to like it? She looked like she was about to throw up. Well, I better get someone to take it away before she comes back.
Han Muzi felt extremely nauseated. Unfortunately, she was not familiar with the place and had spent a long time searching for the bathroom as her stomach kept churning. Just as she was about to throw up, she finally spotted the restroom. Then, she dashed in and sprawled over the basin, barfing her guts out.
She had thrown up so much that tears fell from her eyes. The churning in her stomach was unbearable and she had even broken out into a cold sweat. She did not know how long it went on before she started to feel fine again.
Turning on the tap, she rinsed off every last bit of residue in the basin while washing her hands at the same time. At last, she was about to splash some water on her face when a piece of tissue paper was placed in front of her face. Dumbfounded, she reached up to retrieve the tissue paper with her hand.
“Looking at the state you’re in, I don’t think you should wash your face with cold water right now,” a male voice spoke up casually from her left. After she grabbed the tissue paper, she turned to look to her side. She was stunned at the sight in front of her. He had a pair of mischievous eyes, and an open smile on his lips. Isn’t this Duanmu Zhe who I met last time?
It had not been a long time since they last met. They had even sat down once to have a face-to-face conversation so she naturally remembered him.
After looking at her face closely, he narrowed his eyes and wiggled his eyebrows. “It’s you?”
The one that Ye Moxuan announced he would marry, Han Muzi. At first, he was slightly astonished to meet her gaze—like he was bewildered that he had met her there. But a thought quickly popped up in his head, and he became relieved.
