Do you fancy Yuchi? Han Muzi wasn’t sure how to answer that question. Between Ye Moxuan and her… it wasn’t as simple as whether she liked him or not. If she had to answer this question, then… She smiled lightly. “I don’t fancy him per se.”
George widened his eyes. “You don’t like him?” What the hell, did I get it wrong?
“He’s the person rooted in my heart.”
While he was wondering whether he had gotten it all wrong, her next sentence had him involuntarily widening his eyes. “T-The… person rooted in your heart? A-Are your feelings toward Yuchi Shen that deep?”
No, that doesn’t make sense. He squinted his eyes and looked at the woman in front of him. She was undoubtedly sitting in front of him, but when she spoke those words, her voice carried a hint of regret and ruefulness. Her eyes seemed to look at him, yet they were looking right through him. It was obvious that her mind had wandered to a far-off place. As to where that far-off place was, he believed he could hazard a guess.
“Ahem…” He cleared his throat lightly, bringing her back to the present. “Erm, Muzi, you… Is Yuchi someone you’re acquainted with since a long time ago?”
These words quickly dragged her mind back to the present. She realized that she might have misspoken. What if George noticed something? At the thought, she smiled again. To prevent him from noticing that she had misspoken, she teasingly added, “What’s wrong? I can’t fall for someone unless I’ve known them for a long time? You won’t allow me to fall in love at first sight, be enamored by him the second time we meet, and decide that he’s my soulmate on the third meeting?”
He was at a loss for words. Are all women these days so good at playing around? As such, he couldn’t help retorting, “Why aren’t there any women who would treat me like that?” Touching his face, he continued, “Is it because I’m not handsome enough?”
Seeing his playful manner, she breathed a sigh of relief. I’ve managed to fool him this time, right? Thank goodness George wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. If he was a smarter person, he might have begun suspecting her. She then gently said, “These things are based on fate. Besides, if a woman had fancied you like that, won’t you feel troubled?”
He nodded in agreement with her words. “You’re right. I definitely can’t take it if a woman treated me like that. Besides, I am a person who pursues freedom and beautiful women. If it wasn’t because you fancied Yuchi, I would’ve tried going after you too!”
Han Muzi was speechless. Seeing her at a loss for words, George hurriedly laughed it off. “Of course, I didn’t mean like that. Besides, Muzi, you like Yuchi; I definitely won’t do anything to you. Don’t worry.”
She was still speechless. They sat at the café for a while, then George mentioned that he was getting hungry and invited Han Muzi out for lunch. She then pondered over it. Considering how he had come over despite the distance just to let her know about so many things, she felt that he was sincere. Therefore, she answered, “Forget it, let me treat you instead.”
“Really? What if I choose an expensive restaurant? Will you go broke?”
She was at a loss for words. “Don’t worry, I won’t go broke so easily.”
Perhaps he was simply treating her like a minor employee and thought that she didn’t receive much of a salary, so he was worried that the expense would empty her pockets. Sure enough, just as the thought flashed through her mind, he muttered, “Are you sure you won’t go broke? Aren’t you still on probation? You don’t earn very much every month; would I eat up half your monthly salary with just this meal?”
When he said that, she hastily changed her tune. “That’s true. Let’s eat something cheap instead.”
“Damn it!” In the end, he brought her to a restaurant. As they entered, she realized that the décor of the restaurant was very much to her taste, so she took a few more appreciative glances around. However, George thought that she was trying to figure out the restaurant’s standing, and he quickly explained, “Don’t worry, I’ll treat you this round. You can treat me next time.”
Han Muzi quietly retorted in her heart, I can afford it. But seeing as he had already said so much, she decided against sharing that information with him.
They walked into a quiet private room on the second floor. She followed behind him as they entered the private room. “It’s just lunch, so why did you get a private room?”
“Don’t you know that it’s easier to deal with things in a private room? Did you think I only brought you here for lunch, Muzi?”
She was puzzled.
He waved about the phone in his hand. “I’m creating an opportunity for you and Yuchi. I’ll send him a message soon.”
This guy sure likes to fool around, she thought in her heart. Nonetheless, it was beneficial for her to have a good relationship with him. He was very enthusiastic, and his eyes were pure. He didn’t seem to have wicked intentions and constantly thought of ways to match her with Ye Moxuan.
This way, she would have more chances to meet Ye Moxuan. Only… she was worried, as Ye Moxuan didn’t seem to be affected in any way. Am I not the closest person to him? Why doesn’t he seem the slightest bit affected? Didn’t they say that when an amnesiac met with the people they were closest to, it would stimulate their memories? Don’t tell me… I’ve been going about it the wrong way?
She fell into deep thought as she mulled over it. George sat down and saw her in deep thought; he stealthily snapped a photo of her with the restaurant in the background. After editing the picture and applying a particularly artistic filter on Han Muzi, he posted it on Instagram, and set it so that only Yuchi Shen could see it. He posted it along with the caption: ‘Invited a beautiful lady out for lunch with me’. He knew that Yuchi Shen would never check social media platforms like Instagram, so he wickedly sent a WeChat message to him.
Little Georgie: ‘Yuchi, hurry up and check Instagram.’
After a minute, the other party replied with a single word, ‘Scram.’
Seeing Yuchi Shen’s reply, George laughed. He snorted and continued typing. ‘Hurry up and check it out. There’s a surprise, and it’s beneficial for you too.’
The other party ignored him, obviously disdainful of his meaningless behavior.
He cursed in his heart. This guy is way too unreasonable! He decided to use his special move; he sent the picture he posted on Instagram directly to Yuchi Shen. Sure enough, there was a reply—even if the reply was just a question mark.
It might just be a question mark, but George felt that there were a whole lot of words hidden behind this question mark. I made Yuchi Shen suspicious! I’m a genius!
He excitedly wrote: ‘I invited a beautiful lady out to join me for lunch. Are you envious?’ As soon as he sent the message out, he couldn’t help snickering wickedly.
“What’s wrong with you?” She couldn’t resist asking after watching him constantly smile at his phone.
George came back to his senses and hurriedly shook his head. “It’s nothing. I just saw a funny joke.”
“I see.”
As such, they fell back into silence. Han Muzi took out her phone too, as she was bored. This was the disadvantage of eating together with an unfamiliar acquaintance—they had nothing to talk about and staying silent only felt awkward. If it was not because George was constantly helping her out, she would not have wanted to come out…
