Anything else? Han Muzi tried to recall again.
The scene in the secretary’s office played out like this. The secretary’s assistant stood there with a look of deep contemplation while Miss Lin stood beside her, curiously staring at her. Miss Lin looked especially nervous and curious. “How was it? Did he say anything else?”
Han Muzi came back to her senses and shook her head. “He didn’t.”
“Are you sure?”
“That’s right. I cleaned all the windowsills and then I left.” As expected, she did not tell Miss Lin about the incident in the office. She could barely believe what had happened just now.
Miss Lin was skeptical; she felt that Han Muzi’s words were too far-fetched. How is it possible that Yuchi Shen didn’t get angry and even said nothing? Yuchi Shen may not have been in office for a long time, but based on his usual behavior, he isn’t this kind of person.
Even so, Han Muzi seemed fine; she wasn’t in a bad mood either. Her words could only be the truth. Grudgingly, Miss Lin could only let her off. “Well then, you can continue with your work.”
“Okay.”
After Han Muzi returned to her work, Miss Lin approached the office intending to verify the truth. The door was ajar, and so she stood at the door and knocked.
Ye Moxuan raised his eyes, his deep and serene eyes falling directly on her. His serene gaze—as deep and mysterious as a wolf’s—carried no warmth. For unknown reasons, Miss Lin felt a chill down her spine as she fearfully walked into the office. “Young Master Xuan.”
He withdrew his gaze and looked back down at his laptop. “What’s the matter, Miss Lin?”
Miss Lin was puzzled. To her surprise, he didn’t question her about the cleaning incident again. Could what Muzi said be true? That Young Master Xuan had not gotten angry? That’s so strange!
She felt as if her throat was stuck, like there was something choking her. It took her a long time to find her voice. “Young Master Xuan, regarding the cleaning this morning—”
“Yes,” he interrupted her quietly, “It’s done.”
It’s done? Miss Lin swallowed the words she originally intended to say. She was too embarrassed to ask how it had been settled and could only nod in agreement. “Since Young Master Xuan has handled everything, there are no other matters. However, I must still apologize to the Young Master Xuan for the incident this morning. The mistake this morning was due to my failure to inform you in advance. Next time…”
He didn’t seem to have the patience to let her finish; he nodded, indicating he understood.
How could she not understand his expression? She tactfully ended her sentence and said nothing more. “I’ll be going then.” She turned around to walk out after finishing her sentence.
“Wait.” Ye Moxuan, who had been looking down the whole time, seemed to remember something. He glanced up at Miss Lin and pointed out dryly, “Take that thing along with you on your way out.”
What thing? Miss Lin looked toward the direction he was looking at—it was a basin used for cleaning.
She was stupefied. D-Did Muzi leave that behind? Moreover, not only is Young Master Xuan not angry, he even calmly asked me to remove it on my way out? Despite responding calmly on the surface, her heart felt like a thousand horses were galloping on it. She bent down to pick the basin up and left the office.
…
Han Muzi was tidying up the materials in the secretary’s office. As she was still in training—it was only her second day at work—her work only included trivial and menial tasks. She had just finished categorizing the documents when Miss Lin came back. Miss Lin rushed up to her and looked at her with a serious expression while asking, “Tell me honestly, what is your relationship with Young Master Xuan?”
She was confused. Did something happen? She looked at Miss Lin with a dumbfounded expression. Did something happen? Why is Miss Lin questioning me about the relationship between Ye Moxuan and me right after coming back? Did she investigate me?
Her heart skipped a beat at the thought, but she calmed down quickly. Based on Miss Lin’s influence, it was impossible to dig up any information on her even if she had been investigated. After all, Han Qing had already dealt with the aftermath for her. She could not let her identity as the wife of Ye Moxuan be exposed so quickly. Thinking about it, she put on a puzzled expression and looked at Miss Lin. “Miss Lin, what do you mean?”
Looking at her confused yet sincere expression, Miss Lin felt like she had misunderstood her. But that’s impossible! If Han Muzi and Ye Moxuan had no relationship between them, then why did he help her?
Mulling over it, Miss Lin squinted until her eyes became slits and pretended to speak like an elder, “I’m an experienced person. I’ve long noticed that the two of you are entangled with each other. What are you trying to hide from me?”
It wasn’t as if Han Muzi was borned yesterday. Before she came, she had also inquired about it. Seeing Miss Lin talking to her while wearing this expression, she was sure that Miss Lin was only bluffing. She smiled slightly and said gently, “Miss Lin, if I had something with Young Master Xuan, why am I still working here as a secretary’s assistant? Miss Lin, I’m sure you must know best; if I had something with Young Master Xuan, why would I covet the position of a secretary’s assistant? Running up and down doing errands, and even going through the training?”
What she said made sense. If she could get close to Yuchi Shen, why would she be a mere secretary’s assistant? She could just get Yuchi Shen to arrange an easy and relaxed position in the company for her.
“Young Master Xuan is obsessed with cleanliness. He fires anyone who fails to clean properly, but why didn’t he get angry at you?”
Hearing those words, Han Muzi fell into a dazed silence.
That’s true. She too thought she was going to be fired by Ye Moxuan in a fit of rage when she entered the office, but he didn’t. Miss Lin must have been making a conjecture from this incident. She had to think of a way to obfuscate the truth. Blinking her eyes, she gently replied, “I don’t know why, either. Perhaps Young Master Xuan was in a good mood today and I got lucky?”
Miss Lin was speechless. It seemed like there was no other possible reason apart from this. Well, sometimes… luck is also a kind of strength. Miss Lin could only console herself with this. She stopped trying to chat with Han Muzi and left to do her work.
Han Muzi breathed a sigh of relief when Miss Lin left. As I figured, Miss Lin was bluffing. She reached up and massaged her brows before continuing to work.
The rest of the day passed peacefully. In between, she brewed two to three cups of coffee for Ye Moxuan, while Miss Lin served it to him one by one. In the end, when she was asked to brew another cup of coffee, she started counting. She felt like he was drinking way too much coffee in a day. She furrowed her brows. What is wrong with the b*stard?
“Miss Lin, the coffee that Young Master Xuan drinks in a day… isn’t it way too much?” she asked.
Miss Lin paused, then nodded in relative agreement. “I think so too. A normal person would only drink two to three cups a day. Anything in excess is bad.”
Han Muzi nodded in agreement.
“But I don’t know what’s going on. He had a normal amount of coffee the day before. It seems like it had inexplicably increased in the past two days. Maybe he isn’t sleeping well at night?”
