Han Muzi knew that her career as a fashion designer would have caught their attention. Who would have thought a designer would apply for a position as a secretary’s assistant?
Hence, when she filled in the application forms, she mentioned that she had some experience in fashion designing. Her previous work in designing was all under her English name. This time, she filled in the forms in Mandarin and she chose a random English name for that category.
Han Muzi smiled faintly. “To be honest, I wanted to apply for a fashion designer position. However, it seems like the designer positions in your company have been filled. Besides… I’ve only had limited experience as a fashion designer, and that is why I don’t think I have what it takes to apply for a designer’s position. As such, I opted for the next thing in line, and that is the position as a secretary’s assistant.”
Mr. Receding Hairline was interested in her explanation. “Oh? Are you saying that you are aiming for designing?”
Han Muzi nodded naturally. “Of course, the company of the Yuchi family has businesses in all industries, but designing has always been its forte.” She even gave an example of a piece designed by the Yuchi Group. She mentioned how eye-catching it was during fashion week and she fawned over the designer of the piece.
Toward the end, Han Muzi even sighed. “Unfortunately, I am a nobody, so I doubt I’d have the chance to meet such an exceptional designer. If… I get the chance to meet the designer, I’d be happy even with a signature.”
Miss White-collar was at a loss for words.
Mr. Receding Hairline blinked several times before turning to Miss White-collar who was sitting beside him. “I think you are the fashion designer she is referring to?”
“Ah?” Han Muzi pretended to be surprised. “Are you that fashion designer? Is that true?”
Miss White-collar, who was quite resentful toward Han Muzi earlier, looked rather embarrassed now. Initially, she looked down at Han Muzi because most people came in for the interview for the newcomer Yuchi Shen’s sake. Hence, she did not expect to bump into a fan of hers out of the blue. In fact, this fan didn’t know who I was, and she started praising and pronouncing her admiration for me.
Han Muzi moved quickly and she was about to open her handbag, but she paused suddenly, as though something stopped her in her tracks.
Miss White-collar noticed her hesitation. “What are you doing?”
Han Muzi smiled faintly. “I hope to get your signature after the interview. I really am a fan of your designs.” This was the truth.
Han Muzi truly admired Miss White-collar’s work. In fact, Han Muzi fell in love with her designs the first time she laid her eyes on them. She even went out of her way to search more of the designer’s past creations in order to know more about her. Of course, Han Muzi did her homework. Since she wanted to make this plan work, she would not allow any failures.
“I thought you were going to ask for a signature on the spot.”
Han Muzi shook her head. “I’m so sorry, I was too caught up in the moment. I almost forgot everyone else here. Please accept my sincere apologies to all of you. However… I truly love designing, and I am sincerely asking everyone to give me a chance.”
Mr. Receding Hairline closed her resume folder. The middle-aged woman, who was on his right, had stayed silent all this while, but she finally showed some interest. She flipped through Han Muzi’s resume before asking, “What do you think is the significance of a secretary’s assistant?”
The significance of a secretary’s assistant? Han Muzi was not expecting such a question. She processed her thoughts swiftly, then voiced her opinion, “To be honest… I don’t think there is much of a significance of a secretary’s assistant.”
“It’s not a must, but more often than not, many things require an additional person.”
“Got it.” The woman closed her resume folder before putting it aside.
Han Muzi paused and pursed her lips because she wasn’t sure if she gave the right answer the interviewer wanted. I’ve investigated this person’s background beforehand too. She is the former secretary of the President. She has been working as a secretary for many years; although she is just a secretary on paper, she has Yuchi Jin’s ear. Hence, she is quite powerful within the company. This time, she was the one who suggested hiring a secretary’s assistant because she is getting old, and she needs an extra pair of hands. This sort of person wouldn’t be willing to share the limelight. That includes… beauty and capabilities. That is why I said that to reduce the threat of my presence. I hope… that it will work!
“Alright, that’s all for this interview. You may leave now.”
Han Muzi nodded and she turned around to leave. However, she did a double take and approached Miss White-collar. “May I please have your signature?”
The young Miss White-collar accepted her notebook before clearing her throat. Then, she signed her name across the first page. In the end, Han Muzi left the room happily with her notebook.
After she left, Mr. Receding Hairline glanced at Miss White-collar who now radiated with pride. “She is a sharp one. She hit the right post.”
“What do you mean that she hit the right spot?” Miss White-collar retorted unhappily. “Are you saying that she is pretending to be my fan? In that case, why doesn’t she pretend to be yours?”
Mr. Receding Hairline was unfazed. “Everyone knows that you, Jocel, are arrogant and the most difficult to handle. Do you know how many candidates left the interview crying after you chastised them? Don’t you know that?”
Jocel refuted him, “That’s nonsense! Why didn’t she cry then? Besides, she wouldn’t have known about my designs if she weren’t my fan. You are just saying that because you are jealous of me!”
The middle-aged woman smiled when she saw them bickering on the other side. “She’s truly amazing. You two are fighting over her right now.”
…
Han Muzi was in the interview room for ten minutes. Everyone, who waited outside, were in awe when she came out of the room. “Whoa, how long were you in there? How are the interviewers? Are they fierce?”
Since she was an outlier, everyone surrounded her immediately the moment she got out of the interview room. Han Muzi was astonished and her smile vanished immediately. “It was alright,” she commented with a blank expression.
“What did they ask? Why did the other interviews last less than two minutes? How did you manage to stay on for more than ten?”
Han Muzi blinked several times. “Don’t worry, it will be your turn soon. You will know what the interview questions are once it’s your turn.”
The crowd was stumped by her response. They could tell that Han Muzi was unwilling to elaborate, and so they didn’t force her. Instead, they threw in comments under their breaths before leaving, “So what if she’s in there for ten minutes? Does she think she’s hell of a great?”
Rory came forward and held onto her hands. “Are you done with your interview? Let’s go now.”
Han Muzi asked in surprise, “Were you waiting for me?”
Rory nodded.
“Why did you wait for me?” What is up with this young girl?
“I’m waiting for you to leave together.” She didn’t look embarrassed at all, but she seemed to realize the situation immediately. “Ah! Is it inconvenient for you? In that case… why don’t we head downstairs first?”
Han Muzi rejected her with a quiet tone, “No, thank you. I am rather tired after standing for such a long time. I would like to sit and rest for a while here. You go ahead.”
Rory was slightly disappointed, but she nodded anyway. “Alright, I’ll leave now. Till we meet again.”
“Mm-hmm, till we meet again.”
