Was that what Shen Qi wanted?
She once dreamed of living an ordinary life with her husband; she would give birth to a pair of cute babies, and the four of them would live their lives happily ever after. That was what she wanted.
However, reality killed her dreams. Lin Jiang cheated on her, and the woman involved was pregnant with his child.
She was then forced to marry Ye Moxuan, and the worst part was that he hated her guts.
It was an irrefutable fact that what she ever wanted in her life would never be hers.
Shen Qi came to her senses when reality dawned on her. As a result, she stopped struggling, and her gaze turned as calm as a still lake, as though there was not anything that could stir her emotions anymore.
“If this is really what you want, then so be it.” After the declaration, she stopped struggling and let Ye Moxuan wrap his hands around her waist, putting all her weight onto him.
To the predator, the game was only enjoyable when the prey resisted.
Her sudden surrender dimmed Ye Moxuan’s desire to tease her. As such, his gaze turned cold and he pushed Shen Qi away.
She managed to stand firm on the ground after being pushed away, thereafter she looked at him in puzzlement.
It seemed like he was about to humiliate me. Why did he give up now?
“To the office now,” Ye Moxuan demanded coldly.
Xiao Su rushed over and helped Ye Moxuan get into the car. Seeing that Shen Qi was still spacing out on the spot, Xiao Su shouted, “Assistant Shen, aren’t you coming with us?”
Upon hearing that, Shen Qi suddenly came to her senses and got into the car.
When they reached the company, Shen Qi walked out and went straight to her desk.
After some time, she got up from her chair to make some coffee for Ye Moxuan. Only then did she remember that he didn’t have his breakfast this morning. She thought it might be bad for him to drink coffee on an empty stomach.
After giving it some thought, she decided to get him a cup of warm tea instead.
After she made tea, she walked to Ye Moxuan’s room with the tea she had prepared. When she reached his door, she suddenly paused with her mouth wide open. What am I doing? What does it have to do with me that coffee is bad for his stomach? That’s his stomach, not mine. Why should I care?
When she thought about it, she tightened her grip on the cup as she was in conflict with herself.
But then, she had a change of mind when she realized that Ye Moxuan and her went for breakfast together, and it was because of her that he failed to have his breakfast. It was totally normal that she swapped coffee for tea.
After coming up with enough excuses for herself, she knocked on the door.
“Come in.” Ye Moxuan’s voice was cold and emotionless as usual.
Shen Qi walked in and put the tea on his table, thereupon she hesitated for some time before saying, “I—”
Before she could explain, Ye Moxuan’s indifferent gaze turned to the tea on his table. He then narrowed his eyes and asked, “Where’s my coffee?”
“Drinking coffee is not good for your stomach since you haven’t had your breakfast. So—” Before she could finish, Ye Moxuan chided, “Who gave you the power to make the decisions here?”
Her words got stuck in her throat when she heard what he had said. Her mouth then twitched, and she said, “I…”
Ye Moxuan raised his head and stared at Shen Qi; his penetrative gaze was fixated on her face with eyes filled with ridicule and coldness. It was as though the cold wind and heavy snow in December had swept over her heart.
Her heart was frozen all over.
Shen Qi slightly opened her mouth but failed to say anything.
“Get lost!”
Holding the cup, her hand shivered in anger. She tried her best to constrain the fury within her, and then she turned to leave the room.
After she came out, she leaned against a wall, and her body trembled uncontrollably.
Despite her good intentions, cold water was poured on her. She smiled bitterly as she lowered her gaze. Never do such things again. Stop being a busybody!
When she came round from her thoughts, she went back to her desk. Her gaze dimmed when she saw that cup on her table.
However, Shen Qi wasn’t aware that after she left the room, Ye Moxuan looked at the cup with a complicated gaze as his glare turned abstruse.
He tightened his grip on the pen, his thin lips pursed.
Why would that woman do such a thing?
She was furious and was about to explode after I chided her. Why did she suppress her fury?
And then she left the room in low spirits.
Shen Qi, what do you want from me?
Shen Qi was deep in her thoughts the whole morning, which made her dispirited at work. When it was time for lunch, she went to the canteen and realized she was starving.
The chefs had cooked pig tails that day. When she was about to buy some food, the smell of pig tails reached into her nose, thereby causing her stomach to turn. She covered her mouth immediately and trotted to the restroom.
“Blech!” She leaned on the toilet bowl before throwing up, and after she finished, she was weak all over. Then, she slowly came out of the restroom with her hand pressing against the wall.
She washed her hands and wondered what came over her. Was it because I didn’t have my breakfast?
Shen Qi didn’t return to the canteen after that. Seeing that there was still some time left, she went to a restaurant outside the company and ordered a bowl of vegetarian soup noodles.
Even though it was just a bowl of vegetarian soup noodles, she ate it with relish. Thereafter, she ordered another bowl after she finished.
She then returned to work after lunch.
At the office, Shen Qi made some coffee for Ye Moxuan as usual. However, when she arrived at his room, she realized that the door was not completely shut, and she heard two people talking inside the room.
“Is there no news yet? Are you even capable of handling this matter?”
Ye Moxuan’s gaze was like a beam of lightning that struck on Xiao Su. Ye Moxuan was putting so much pressure on him that he could barely straighten his back.
“Y-Young Master Ye, let me explain!”
“Go on.”
“Two days ago, we found two suitable candidates at the hospital, but we weren’t sure about it, so we wanted to ask you to come over. Then, the two women suddenly ran away, so—”
“They ran away?” Ye Moxuan narrowed his eyes and tapped on his desk. Xiao Su could undoubtedly feel the danger in his master’s eyes.
Cold sweat beaded his back, thereupon he hurriedly said, “We’re doing all we can to track them down. It’ll only take a short while before we find them.”
Ye Moxuan pursed his lips as his face turned cold, then he suddenly said, “I’ll personally find them.”
“But Young Master Ye, you’re… injured!” Xiao Su reminded him.
Ye Moxuan stared at the table as he sank into thought.
When he finally came round, he asked, “Are you sure those two women matched the criteria?”
“Yes, but… we need you to verify it for yourself.”
Xiao Su’s phone rang after he finished talking.
He took a look at the message that was sent to him by a subordinate, then his face was filled with joy.
“Young Master Ye, my men have found the two ladies!”
“Let’s go then.” Ye Moxuan raised his brow.
Xiao Su nodded before he went over and pushed Ye Moxuan’s wheelchair. Shen Qi was shocked when she saw them coming, so she trotted back to her desk and hid the coffee behind a cabinet. She must not let Ye Moxuan see her, or else he would think that Shen Qi eavesdropped on his conversation, even though it was just coincidental.
Bang! The door was opened forcefully. As Shen Qi saw Ye Moxuan and Xiao Su leave, she recalled their conversation.
She then remembered that some time back, they were looking for someone as well.
Based on Ye Moxuan’s expression and tone, it was clear that this person mattered to him.
Shen Qi was curious about who that person was; she wanted to know who had the capability to make someone as indifferent as Ye Moxuan to fluster.
