Han Muzi sat on the bed after she woke up and had two pillows supporting her back. Her eyes seemed blank and hollow; it was obvious that she felt directionless.
Su Jiu poured her a glass of warm water, but Han Muzi refused to accept it. Su Jiu merely placed the glass down after sighing softly. “To be honest, Young Master Ye is no longer who he was from before. He is no longer Ye Moxuan, to be exact. His name has been replaced by the Yuchi Family to Yuchi Shen,” Su Jiu explained.
“Yuchi Shen…” Han Muzi felt bitter as the name rolled off her tongue. “So what? Are you saying that he does not recognize me anymore? Not only that, he is not even called Ye Moxuan anymore. Instead, he is known as Yuchi Shen now. I can’t accept this and I will not believe this. You must have found the wrong man. My Ye Moxuan will never not recognize me.”
Su Jiu answered, “Miss Muzi, this is the reality. I don’t think Young Master Ye changed his name. I don’t think he’s aware of what has happened.”
“He is not aware…” Han Muzi shut her eyes. “You must have found the wrong man.”
Su Jiu sighed once again. “Miss Muzi, what are your thoughts? Would you listen to my explanation even if you refused to believe what’s going on?”
Han Muzi did not answer her, but did not reject her either. Su Jiu then elaborated in a quiet voice, “Miss Muzi, have you heard of memory loss?”
Han Muzi’s fingertips trembled and she turned to look at Su Jiu abruptly. “Are you saying that…”
Su Jiu nodded.
“That’s right. Young Master Ye has suffered from memory loss. Otherwise, judging by how in love he was with you, Miss Muzi, it’s not of him to forget you just like that. When we first found him, he did not recognize us at all. We also weren’t sure what happened during the airplane accident too. However, we are convinced that Young Master Ye must have sustained some brain injury and that is why he can’t recall his past.”
“Sustain brain injuries?” Han Muzi’s pale lips quivered and she was clearly in disbelief.
“I’ve inquired with some medical experts about this condition. There are endless possibilities when it comes to severe brain damages and memory loss happened to be one of them. Through Young Master Ye’s reaction when he met you, Miss Muzi, we can be sure that Young Master Ye lost his memories. However, it doesn’t mean that he would never recover his lost memories. Nevertheless, there is no specific treatment from a medical standpoint. A person who has lost his or her memories needed to interact with people whom they knew from their past and visit familiar places that they used to frequent. This is a method used to trigger their memories as it’s able to stimulate the patient to recall their past gradually. However… if the patient can’t bear with it, it can’t be done repeatedly.”
“Are you saying that… if I’m able to take him home, or if I were to show up in front of him frequently, there is the possibility of him regaining his past memories?”
Han Muzi clung onto the last shred of hope when she heard Su Jiu’s explanation. A trace of light gleamed in her empty, dark eyes. It was beneficial to feel despair. Humans needed to have hope in order to keep their days meaningful and hopeful.
Su Jiu nodded. “You can say that. However, this method has no guarantee of success. In any case, Miss Muzi, most things would only work once you worked hard enough on it. In the past, some of the family members gave up searching for the lost victims. It means that… as long as their family members threw in the towel, it no longer mattered whether the missing victim was still alive or not because their family gave up on the chance of meeting the person forever. However, we did not give up. In the end, we found Young Master Ye and that is why… I’m sure Young Master Ye would recall his past as long as you are willing to work hard, Miss Muzi.”
Those words comforted Han Muzi, who had just sunk into a deep and grey hopeless place, because Su Jiu’s advice worked like sparks and colors amidst the grey hopelessness.
Han Muzi straightened her back. “However, I have a problem now. He no longer recognized me. How could I possibly show up in front of him on a frequent basis?”
“That is indeed a problem.” Su Jiu pondered about it seriously. She grinned when she saw Han Muzi’s deep scowl. “You haven’t eaten the whole day. Miss Muzi, why don’t you have a bite at the restaurant downstairs? Have a nap, and you might just think of something tomorrow.”
Will sleeping help me figure a way out? Han Muzi felt it was impossible, but starving her unborn child was not what she wanted either, so she nodded. “Alright, I’ll head down for some food.” In all honesty, she was no longer as anxious as before now that she found Ye Moxuan. He might have forgotten all about me, but… it’s a blessing from God that I saw him alive in person and that he is doing well right now. As for the rest of it, I will try to change the course of events gradually. He has lost his memories, right? In that case, I will find a way for Ye Moxuan to remember me again.
The next morning, Han Muzi and the others arrived in front of the Yuchi Group building, but she did not get out of the car. Instead, she sat in the car and observed the skyscraper through the car window. Ye Moxuan is now Yuchi Shen. The Yuchi Family must have saved him since he showed up here and that is the reason for the name change. However… they merely replaced his first name with ‘Shen’. That means that they know about his original name. Since they know about his original name, they must be aware of what happened to Ye Moxuan in the past. In that case, why did the Yuchi Family choose to give him the Yuchi family name and make him stay here? Could it be possible that the Yuchi Family has no heir? Han Muzi pressed her lips into a thin line and she frowned while being deep in thought.
Han Qing glanced at her from the corners of his eyes. “Do you have a plan? If you try to approach him by force this time and he does not recognize you, what happened yesterday would repeat itself.”
Yesterday, Ye Moxuan stood aside coldly, allowing those two men to grab me. No matter how I cried and pleaded, he acted as if he heard nothing when he turned to walk away. If the same situation were to happen again, I am not sure if I would survive that. She shook her head while answering softly, “Qing, don’t worry. I will not act rashly again.”
After all, Ye Moxuan does not recognize me because he suffers from brain injuries. It is… not entirely his fault. I should be grateful that he is alive. Han Muzi smiled faintly before adding, “I have an idea.”
Han Qing and Su Jiu looked at her questioningly.
“However… my plan will take a long time, and I won’t be able to return to China temporarily.” With that, she glanced at Han Qing. She bit her lower lip and she wore a conflicted expression.
On the other side, Han Qing did not look surprised, as if this was what he had expected. He stated calmly, “Since you found him, I will support your decisions unconditionally as long as you do not hurt yourself. As for returning home, leave it to me to handle the matters in the country if you can’t return to China temporarily.”
Initially, Han Muzi was prepared for him to refute her or at least question her, but it was unexpected that he accepted her decision with just a simple statement.
Her eyes reddened with tears. “Thanks, Qing.”
