That was why Little Bean was left in the country. However, due to the recent news that had been brewing domestically, Han Qing was unsure whether Little Bean was already aware of it and only hoped that he did not know anything. Therefore, when Little Bean ran toward this uncle of his, Han Qing initially planned on lying to him by telling him that his mommy and daddy went on a honeymoon after the wedding, and they would not be back for a while.
As the idea was formed inside his mind, he suddenly felt that it was not right to do so because he himself could not confirm when or whether Ye Moxuan would be able to come back. It’s good if he comes back, but what if he doesn’t? How will I explain this lie of mine to Little Bean? When the kid knows about it in the future, he will definitely be sad. When Han Qing looked at the innocent face of Little Bean in front of him, he hardened his heart. Why don’t I straight up tell him the truth to avoid him getting sad when he knows about it later? And if Ye Moxuan can come back alive, won’t that be a surprise for him?
Han Qing thought about it and squatted in front of Little Bean, caressing his head before speaking to him in a gentle voice, “Little Bean, I have something to tell you.”
Little Bean tilted his tiny head. “Uncle Qing?”
“Follow me to the study and I’ll tell you everything.”
…
On the other side, Han Muzi sat on her bed while gazing at the sunlight outside the window.
“Muzi, Little Bean is crying for you to have a video call with him. Can you please take notice of him?” Yan sat at the side of the bed and held the phone while asking Han Muzi.
Han Muzi’s finger moved for a second when she heard this, but she turned her away to ignore Yan. She pressed her pale lips hard while her eyes were filled with despair. She had promised Little Bean that she would find him a daddy, but now, she had lost him. It would be difficult for her to talk to Little Bean before his daddy returned. Her fear was that she would burst into tears when she saw him.
Yan advised her, “Muzi, don’t be so cruel. Little Bean is very sad now. He thinks that he just found his daddy, yet you are ignoring him now. Why do you have to let him weep in tears?” As she continued to speak, her eyes turned red. “I beg you, Muzi. Please say something to him. Just a few words will do. When Little Bean came in with the video call today, he was already in tears. This is the first time I see him cry like this. You know that… Little Bean rarely cried before.”
Han Muzi’s heart moved when she heard those words while her pink lips fluttered. How can I bear it in my heart? But… if I see Little Bean now, what should I say to him? Should I tell him about his daddy’s accident and break my heart again?
Han Muzi shook her head. “No. Wait for a few days. I really don’t have the mood for this.”
“Muzi!” Yan refused to give up as she kept on calling her name.
Her constant calling frustrated Han Muzi and she sneered right away, “Get out. I want to be alone for a while.”
Yan did not move but she became quiet, so Han Muzi thought that she had finally listened.
Surprisingly, after a minute, the sound of a crying boy suddenly burst out in the silent ward. “Mommy! Mommy… Ugh…”
The familiar voice shocked Han Muzi as she glanced at the source of the voice in disbelief. As expected, she saw Yan holding her phone with the video turned on. On the screen, Little Bean cried so hard that he could not catch his breath as he kept on calling for Han Muzi. His tears were like a sharp dagger that stabbed at Han Muzi’s heart. She widened her eyes to stare at Little Bean before turning her head away while tears started swimming in her eyes.
“Mommy, can you take a look at me? Mommy… I really want to talk with you. Mommy…”
“Turn off the video,” Han Muzi heard her own calm voice when she ordered Yan.
However, Yan did not listen to her as she still held on the phone to show her the video, as though she was determined to oppose her. “Muzi, wake up. That person in the video is not anybody else. He is your own son, Little Bean. Can’t you feel the pain in your heart after treating him like this? He just wants to talk with you!”
“Take it away. Final warning.” Han Muzi’s voice became even lower and calmer while her eyes started to fill with rage.
Yan felt angry at her, so she simply told Little Bean, “Do you hear that? Your bad Mommy doesn’t want to talk to you for the moment. I can’t help you now even though I want to. Alright. Don’t cry anymore. What’s the use of crying so hard if there isn’t anyone to comfort you? Quietly wipe away your tears and go do your homework. Do you hear me?”
Little Bean’s eyes were red when he shook his head vigorously. “No. I want Mommy.” No matter how smart or how mature Little Bean was, he still felt like he was abandoned by his mother after seeing how Han Muzi ignored him and he felt sad about it.
Therefore, he cried and cried until it frustrated Han Muzi, so she scolded him, “What are you crying for? I’m not even crying, so why are you, huh?” Her voice was stern while her eyes glared at Little Bean as if he had done a mistake.
After he was scolded, Little Bean was shocked before he pouted and cried in a childish voice, “I miss you, Mommy… Mommy, can I come and find you?”
“No.” Han Muzi ruthlessly refused. “If you are well-behaved, then just stay put at home. I will come back to you after I find your daddy.”
Little Bean’s cries intensified. “Mommy, you’re lying to me. Uncle Qing told me that daddy had an accident and he may not come back.”
His words agitated Han Muzi as she widened her eyes and stared at Little Bean on the screen with disbelief. “Who allowed you to say this nonsense? Are you not listening to my words now? Your daddy is only missing. He will be back!”
Little Bean responded to her, “Then let me wait with you, Mommy. Mommy… you never left my side before and you always brought me everywhere with you. Can’t you do the same now?”
The little boy’s voice was filled with mercy. Anyone who saw him this way would not be able to refuse him, but Han Muzi’s heart was broken. She even hated how she looked now, so how could she allow her son to see herself like this? She sneered, “No. I’m fine alone. You don’t need to come, understand?”
Little Bean pouted his lips again. “But I want to be with you. Mommy… please agree for me to come. I will definitely be on my best behaviour and not make you mad. Alright, Mommy? Alright?” He started to act shamelessly while he pleaded with Han Muzi, sentence by sentence. It was heartbreaking for anyone to hear him.
Meanwhile, Yan still held the phone, but her eyes already turned red after listening to him, so she said to Han Muzi, “Please promise him. He isn’t somebody else. He is the child you’d bore inside of you for ten months.”
