At the moment, in the room, it was so quiet that one could even hear a pin drop.
Han Muzi sat alone on the sofa, all curled up like a dead corpse. Meanwhile, Yan sat beside her and looked troubled. She kept quiet as she feared that her own emotions would be affected if she spoke about it.
They had no idea about the situation that occurred downstairs, but a long period of time had since passed. They heard nothing suspicious and wanted to have a look, but also feared that the scene would be awkward with them being there.
Yan sat still as minutes ticked away. As she felt that her limbs went numb, she gave in to the temptation and stood up. “Why don’t I go down and have a look?”
She had taken two steps when Han Muzi broke the silence. “Don’t you go.”
“Muzi?” Yan looked at her confusingly. “You should be the one curious about the situation. We have been here for a while now. Don’t you want to know how they are handling it?”
Han Muzi did not say anything while she faintly nodded. She did not need to know how Ye Moxuan and Little Bean mingled with each other because she could already guess it. It was impossible for him not to figure things out, especially when Little Bean’s face resembled his.
She only thought about what Ye Moxuan would do after he realized the truth and the fact that she had kept this hidden from him for over five years. Will he be mad at me? Will he hate me?
Yan grinded her teeth when she saw that Han Muzi did not move an inch. “I’ll go down and have a look. Don’t stop me.”
“Yan!” she screamed, which made Yan stop and look back at her. “It’s late now. You should go back to your room and apply your mask before taking a bath and sleep. You don’t have to worry about this.”
“But you—”
“Relax. I know my limits and how to handle this.”
“Muzi!”
“Go back!” Han Muzi insisted with a stern face.
Yan had never seen her behave in such a manner with her before. It was obvious from her eyes that Han Muzi did not want her to interfere with the situation. If she did not know better, she would have thought that she was angry with her.
“Fine. I won’t interfere and I won’t care about you all. I’ll head back to my room now and rest.” Yan left right after she finished speaking.
After she left, Han Muzi retreated into the sofa with her eyes closed.
A slight sound then came from the door, causing Han Muzi to feel helpless as she thought that it was Yan coming back. “Didn’t I tell you that I can handle this by myself? Go back to sleep and stop irritating me!”
There was no reply from the person outside, which made her think that Yan left again. It felt weird when she thought about it. Yan was aware of her temperament, so she would not return right after Han Muzi was stern with her. Then what was that sound from the door?
A startled Han Muzi opened her eyes and looked toward the door. A tall and slim figure stood by the door and gazed at her with burning eyes. Ye Moxuan.
Her lips twitched when she saw that it was Ye Moxuan. She rose from the sofa instinctively and returned his gaze. Both of their eyes met, but no one spoke a word.
She, however, saw that there was something different in his eyes. The dark eyes were now filled with helplessness, disappointment and a mixture of other emotions. She was secretly fearful of those eyes, but she feigned calmness on the surface as she forced a smile on her face and walked toward Ye Moxuan.
While she walked right up to him, his eyes gazed forward as if he had never looked at her face to face before.
Han Muzi’s heart ached at the sight of this, but she chose to smile and ask, “Is Little Bean still downstairs? I’ll check up on him.” Once she was done, she was like a general who wanted to run away in defeat.
Ye Moxuan suddenly raised his arm to block her from leaving as she walked past him. Staring at the pair of arms in front of her, she stood still and patiently waited.
As she walked past him, Ye Moxuan suddenly raised his arm to block her from going forward. Looking at the arm in front of her, Han Muzi could only stand still and wait quietly.
“Is this the reason why you always refused to let me see him?” he finally spoke after some time. His voice was a bit husky, which made it hard for him to speak.
Her heart turned bitter as she remained speechless while pressing her lips.
“You already knew about this?” he asked another question and Han Muzi had nowhere to hide. “When we were abroad, were you testing me by asking those questions? Did you know about it then?”
She bit her lower lip, but still did not reply to him.
“Heh…” Ye Moxuan chuckled. It was filled with sarcasm and self-mockery. “You didn’t let me investigate you and I promised. So, this is the reason why. Five years. You hid the truth from me for five whole years. And you still plan to hide it from me until now, right?”
Ye Moxuan suddenly grabbed hold of her wrist. It packed such a force to it that her hand almost broke in half. Han Muzi groaned at the pain as he pressed her against the cold wall beside them. “Do you think this is fun? Ensuring that everyone else knows about this while I’m kept in the dark like an idiot?”
“It’s not like that!”
“It’s not like that? I’ve been kept in the dark for five whole years. If I didn’t choose to find you, are you planning on never seeing me again and hiding with my son? Are you thinking of hiding the truth from me for my whole life?”
He started to become irrational, but she understood where he came from. Before they reconciled, she was worried that he would snatch the child away from her, but now that they were together, she was also worried that he would be disappointed and angry at her. As expected, he really is disappointed.
She saw the man in front of her clutching her hand tightly that she began to feel the pain from his grip. “It’s painful. Let me go first. I…”
“So you do understand the feeling of pain then?” Ye Moxuan asked ironically. “Then how do you think I feel?”
Han Muzi frowned. “I know that your heart isn’t feeling well, but I didn’t hide him from you on purpose. Let me go first and I’ll explain it to you, alright?”
He kept silent—neither denying nor agreeing with her—and only stared at her. He gradually loosened his grip on her hand a while later. She rubbed her wrist in an attempt to soothe the pain while she bit her lower lip and lifted her head to look at him.
“I only want to know the answer to a question.”
“Say it.”
“Does Han Qing and Ye Linhan know about this?”
Listening to him, Han Muzi felt the sudden thump in her heart as she wondered why he asked the question. It did not take her long to react to it. Is he trying to compete with Ye Linhan? She then glanced at him with hesitation in her eyes.
Moments later, she spoke softly, “I don’t want to lie to you. In short, Ye Linhan… also knows about it.”
