Han Muzi stared at him in doubt as he chuckled.
“You look like a wife who’s trying to catch a cheating partner.”
His words stiffened her. She looked into his eyes and asked, “Are you telling me that you cheated on me?”
The reason she said this was to feel him out. But since he did not do anything behind her back, he failed to understand what she actually meant as he had not checked his call logs and he sure as h*ll did not have any relationship with a woman named Duan Muxue.
He indeed had nothing to be guilty of.
“Are you?” Since he remained silent, she continued to ask without any idea on how she gained the courage to meet his gaze.
Ye Moxuan squinted. “You didn’t smell any other scent, did you?”
Han Muzi didn’t know how to reply to that.
As a matter of fact, he only had his own scent on him—nothing else.
Nonetheless, it made her more suspicious about an alleged affair, considering that she had heard a woman’s voice.
That woman had a much softer voice, which informed her that she was much younger than her.
As she thought about this, Han Muzi finally realized an important fact.
Five years had already passed and she was not young anymore.
She was at the stage where she would slowly age as a woman whereas it was a different situation for him now that he was now in his prime.
Her eyes bled happiness and she pushed him away the next moment.
Her mood sank to its lowest point, which he immediately noticed. She was about to leave when he approached her from behind and pulled her into his arms, leaning against her shoulder.
“Do you not believe me?”
Han Muzi turned to face him. From the corner of her eyes, she looked at Ye Moxuan, who leaned on her shoulder, before asking, “Have you heard of a saying that goes ‘too good to be true’?”
Ye Moxuan frowned upon her words. “Who said so?”
“You don’t have to know who said that. I bet that you have changed your shirt, took a bath, and even disinfected your whole body.”
And with that, she sarcastically continued, “You removed all the traces and made yourself look perfect. What’s the purpose in deceiving others when you are doing it to yourself at the same time?”
He initially thought that she pulled his leg, but her sarcastic tone convinced him that she was serious.
In the next instant, Ye Moxuan furrowed his brows even deeper—a change from the slight frown he had earlier. He asked, feeling puzzled, “Don’t you believe me?”
“Why should I believe in you?” Whenever she thought about the woman’s gentle and feminine voice, she was enraged. Anger boiled in her blood, as if it was capable of setting a fire in an open field that only a heavy rain could extinguish.
She pushed away the pair of large hands on her waist and turned around to look into his eyes, snickering.
“You disappeared for a few days and the reason you gave was that you were working abroad. Do you think I would believe that?”
As he stared at her, he furrowed his brows. His overall aura was cold, making it impossible for people to understand what was going on in his head.
Why is she furious? Is it because I pretended to not like her and that makes her jealous? And the advice given by Mr. Potbelly actually worked?
Although there was sarcasm on her face, her facial expression was obvious enough to indicate that she was beyond enraged.
This only made his heart expand with happiness because he knew that she would not have been upset if she did not care about him.
“Were you worried that I would see another woman when I was abroad?” Ye Moxuan finally asked the question that she had pondered in her heart.
He asked her the question with such calmness in his dark eyes that he didn’t look like he had been caught cheating.
So, what is his relationship with that woman? Should I ask him? If they were really in a relationship, he wouldn’t admit it even if I asked. And if I ask him, won’t I be humiliating myself?
She shook her head. “No. I don’t care whether you are seeing another woman or not.”
“Why are you mad at me then?”
“I’m not mad at you.” Han Muzi closed her eyes, suddenly remembering the necklace that he helped her to put on her neck earlier. She reached for the necklace and wanted to take it down with the intention of returning it to him.
“It’s almost time to go to work. You said that you haven’t rested for two days, right? You should go back and sleep.”
She tried her best to resist her anger to make herself look as though she could not be bothered by him or what he did.
However, she neglected the fact that though her words sounded as if she did not care, her actions clearly showed otherwise.
She removed the necklace he personally put on her and returned it to him to show that she did not care before asking him to go back to rest.
Of course he refused to believe what she said.
Ye Moxuan silently looked at her for a while before reaching out to take the necklace. When she was about to pull her hand back after she passed the necklace to him, his large hand suddenly wrapped her tiny hand in his.
He pulled her closer to him in the next moment, causing her to stagger and fall into his embrace.
She looked up at him in shock as he held her by her waist.
“Are you upset because I didn’t contact you when I was abroad? Or is it because you don’t like the necklace that I gave you?”
“Let go of me…”
“If you don’t explain yourself, I won’t let you go,” Ye Moxuan said, tightly holding her in his arms.
Han Muzi looked at him and could not help but imagine him embracing another woman. In her mind, that woman was prettier, sexier, and younger than her.
That thought only made her anger escalate rapidly. She snickered after she failed to push him away a few times.
“Is this how you treat other women as well?”
Ye Moxuan frowned. “What do you mean?”
“What I meant is…” She approached him and wiped off her lipstick stain on his lips using her finger. As she looked down at the red stain, she ridiculed him, “Are you always this shameless when you are together with other women? Is this all that you have learnt in the past five years?”
Ye Moxuan finally understood what she meant.
There was previously no guilt, so he did not understand the hidden meaning in her words, but he finally got what she meant.
Every word from her mouth was packed with the intention to feel him out and to taunt at him for being a playboy.
Ye Moxuan could not understand why she had such thoughts when all he did was disappear for a few days.
Something came into his mind all of a sudden, making him squint his eyes in a menacing manner.
“Was it because somebody said something to you?”
Looking at his expression—he was squinting and staring at her—she thought that her suspicion had been confirmed. With clenched teeth, she said, “This is none of your business! Ye Moxuan, I never thought that you are that kind of a person!”
She scolded, pushing him away with all of her strength, “I’m disgusted by you! How could you hug and kiss me after you were with another woman? I thought that you disliked having close physical contacts with strangers, but I have never once considered that you were merely putting on an act! Let go of me!”
