A moment later, Han Muzi turned around and lightly coughed. “Come on in then.”
Ye Moxuan entered and closed the door behind him.
“I am about to cook dinner. Feel free to change into the pair of flip-flops and wait for me in the living room,” she explained while she headed off to the kitchen. After she spoke, she closed the door to the kitchen, hiding from him.
As she waited for the pot of water to boil, she stared at the water in a daze. She regretted that she sent an invite to Ye Moxuan for dinner in the spur of the moment. Plus, she hadn’t expected him to read the message either.
What a jerk you are, Ye Moxuan. She scolded him in her heart but, at the same time, she was enthusiastic because she had someone to accompany her for dinner. Halfway through her cooking, he suddenly opened the kitchen door and entered.
Han Muzi was shocked. “Why did you come in here?”
“Is there anything I can help with?” Ye Moxuan asked because sitting in the living room waiting for dinner to be ready made him feel uneasy. He did not want Han Muzi to be doing the cooking by herself so he went into the kitchen.
“No need,” Han Muzi replied. “It will be done soon. If you want to help, you can help me set the table.”
He nodded and went to take the bowls and chopsticks. After he set the table, he saw her placing the dishes onto the plates, thereupon he helped to carry them to the dining table.
A few dishes had been placed on the table a short while later and both of them sat down opposite of each other.
Eating alone definitely felt lonely, but with Ye Moxuan sitting opposite of her, she felt uncomfortable. The atmosphere at the dining table was somewhat awkward, so she lowered her head, not wanting to meet him in the eye.
“Do I look like a devil?” Ye Moxuan suddenly asked.
Han Muzi raised her head, stunned. “What?”
“Otherwise, why are you eating with your head lowered? Is it because I’m sitting opposite of you?
Before she even replied, he stood up, walked around the table and took a seat beside her.
She was stunned. What is this? Han Muzi blinked, looking at him helplessly.
“This way, you can eat comfortably,” he said with an endearing voice. Then, he picked up some vegetables and put it into her bowl. “Don’t you realize that you are too skinny?”
Han Muzi blinked again. Am I? I’m not that thin, just slightly.
It was somewhat an unbearable yet delicious meal and she felt much more at ease with him after dinner.
Han Muzi was about to clean the table when Ye Moxuan received a call. He frowned and replied, “I’m busy.”
The person on the other end of the phone seemed to be anxiously explaining something to him, which made his brows furrowed, before he sneered. “Come to me again after you have settled everything,” he retorted, then hung up the phone.
Han Muzi stopped whatever she was doing and asked, “Was that Xiao Su?”
“Yes,” he replied, walking toward her to help her clear the table.
“Is it regarding the company’s affairs? Go and settle it first. There’s nothing much left to do here. I can do it myself.”
Can’t have the president of Ye Group, king of the business world, to wash and dry the bowls, can I? I’ll be thankful enough if he doesn’t break my bowls.
“Go.” She pushed him. “The earlier you go, the sooner you will be able to finish with your tasks and get your rest.”
He reached out to clasp her hand. “Don’t you think we are so much alike now?”
“Go quickly,” Han Muzi interrupted him and pulled his hand, walking toward the door before opening the door and pushing him out. She closed the door without giving him a chance to react to what she had just done.
His nose was almost smashed by the door, but he did not feel angry at all. He was overjoyed, and after some time, he stretched out his hand to touch his nose. The corners of his lips slowly stretched upwards out of excitement.
Let’s get things settled. We have a long future awaiting us anyway. You can escape from me now but not for long.
…
Han Muzi went upstairs after she had finished cleaning up to change into her pajamas and get ready for bed. Suddenly, she remembered the incident that had happened at the office during the day. She pondered upon it for a while, then reached out to her phone and opened her picture gallery.
She had deliberately kept Manager’s Yi’s contact information. It’s not yet 10 o’clock. Has he gone to bed? After giving it some thought, she sent a message to him. It was just an ordinary message, but Manager Yi phoned her after he saw who the sender was.
Han Muzi was surprised to have received his call. “Hello, Manager Yi.”
“I received your message, Miss Han. You want the contact information of my president, right?”
She initially tried her luck by sending a text message since it was impolite to call others at a late hour, but she did not expect him to read it immediately and give her a call. Feeling a little embarrassed at her actions, she coughed slightly. “I apologize for disturbing you at such a late hour. You’re not sleeping yet?”
“Haha, I had a social gathering earlier tonight to attend and it ended rather late. I saw your message as I entered my car. I’m guessing that you want to communicate with our president in person, right?” He was a little cautious as he spoke the last sentence, as though he was probing her. He was not sure about his suspicion and did not want to offend her.
Previously, Yan had mentioned before that Manager Yi was exceptionally polite to her. At that time, Han Muzi did not think much about it as she thought that he merely looked up to her. Come to think of it, there might have been a reason behind Manager Yi’s conduct after all.
After she pondered about it, she decided to be straightforward with him.
“Yes. I would like to meet him in person to discuss the details of the contract, so…”
“No problem,” Manager Yi quickly replied. “I’ll send our president’s phone number to you, Miss Han. Please wait a moment.” With that, he hung up.
Han Muzi looked at her phone, surprised that the call had ended abruptly.
Am I supposed to just wait here? Ye Linhan, what are you trying to do?
Not long later, she received Ye Linhan’s phone number and stared at the string of numbers, scrunching her brows tight.
It’s so late now. Should I call and confront him? Would he be fast asleep? It was while she hesitated about calling him that she accidentally dialed his number on her keypad.
Toot-toot… The phone rang and a short while later, the person on the other side answered the call.
“Hello?” A gentle voice was on the end of the phone. Although it had been a long time, this voice was familiar to Han Muzi as he was someone who had protected her.
