Leng Yueyue was very happy upon hearing Han Muzi’s praises. After all, Han Muzi was a stellar achiever and Leng Yueyue revered her as an idol. However, she was sad that Ye Moxuan had rejected her work. If he did not admit that her design work was up to par, she would never be able to settle this order.
If she couldn’t settle this order, she wouldn’t get a bonus as well. This was the part that troubled Leng Yueyue the most.
Hearing that, Han Muzi’s hand rested on the folder that she had been flipping through. After a while, she closed the folder and said, “Did he reject your work in person?”
Leng Yueyue shook her head. “No, I didn’t even get to see him. His assistant was the one who told me that President Ye was not satisfied with my work and asked me to stop fooling around with such low-quality works. This is the reason why I brought it here for you to have a look. Are my skills that bad?”
“It’s not that you are not good.” Han Muzi shook her head and looked at Leng Yueyue in the eye. “When I gave you this order, I told you that this is a huge order and that it is more difficult than any other orders. Even I can’t handle it.”
“Yeah.”
“In that case, you’ll need to have a lot of patience to finish it. Even if you don’t succeed in the end, I think the process alone can help you improve.”
Although Ye Moxuan wasn’t in their industry, he was very picky and his taste was very unique, so it would be good practice for Leng Yueyue.
“Alright, I got it. I will go back and continue designing.”
“Go ahead.”
After Leng Yueyue left, Yan tugged on her coat and looked at Han Muzi sullenly. “You know that she will never succeed, so why did you let her manage this deal? I think that we would’ve been better off breaching the contract in the beginning; we wouldn’t have to deal with so much hassle now.”
“No use regretting now. If we could break off the contract since the beginning, we wouldn’t be having so much trouble now.”
Han Muzi stretched out her hands and massaged her temples. She, too, had no idea how long this was going to stretch out with Ye Moxuan.
Her memories of the banquet last night were still vivid. The way he spoke in her ears, the passionate kiss, and the intimate movements, replayed in her mind over and over again. Although she didn’t want to be with him anymore, her body seemed to think otherwise as she kept thinking about him.
After Han Muzi’s background had been publicly exposed, many clients who were interested in doing business together had arrived at the company. Yan adjusted her mental state to deal with them. After a day, she was exhausted.
“If I knew that holding a banquet to reveal your background will bring us so many orders, we should have done this long ago when we first returned to North City.”
Han Muzi hesitated before saying “We can’t handle so many people arriving at once.”
Seeing that it was way past the usual time for people to knock off work, Han Muzi’s expression changed slightly as she urged Yan, “Hurry up and pack your things. We are going to pick up Little Bean and go home.”
Yan returned to her senses and quickly packed up her things. After donning Han Qing’s coat, she walked out with Han Muzi.
After the two went home to pick up Little Bean, he couldn’t help exclaiming when he saw Yan’s coat as soon as he got into the car. “Aunt Yan, are you wearing Uncle Qing’s coat?”
Hearing that, Yan glared at him fiercely. “Why are your eyes so sharp? Who did you take after?”
Little Bean hugged Yan’s arm. “Aunt Yan, are you going to be my aunt for real?”
Yan rolled her eyes angrily. “Well, I would very much like that, but unfortunately, your Uncle Qing doesn’t want me to.”
She didn’t want to admit it before because she felt shy. However, now that Han Qing had known her feelings and rejected her on the spot, Yan didn’t care about it anymore.
Hearing that, Han Muzi couldn’t help but laugh softly. “Well, she might not be your aunt now, but maybe she will be in the future.”
Yan glared at her.
The three of them chatted and laughed while they returned to their neighborhood. When they passed the logistics office of their neighborhood, the person-in-charge stopped them to tell them that a parcel had arrived for them and asked them to bring it along with them.
Yan volunteered to take it. When she picked up the box, the manager of the logistic office complained, “What have you bought? It smells weird.”
“It’s nothing much—just some ingredients I bought online. It might have a strong smell, but it shouldn’t be that bad.” With that, Yan took a deep breath, and she did detect an awful smell. Hmm, this is weird. What’s going on?
“What happened?” Han Muzi asked while she was standing by the door. Yan recovered to her senses and walked out with the box in her hand.
“It’s nothing—just the ingredients I bought online. They smell bad. Let’s go back and unpack them first. If there is a problem, I will ask the seller to refund me the full amount.”
“Alright.”
As the elevator was a confined space and they lived on a higher floor, other residents frequently cast strange glances at them when they entered the elevator. Han Muzi frowned slightly as she looked at the box Yan was holding.
This smell… is indeed quite bad. Is it rotten?
They had finally arrived home under great pressure. Yan put the box on the floor and said, “Don’t touch it, the both of you. I’ll take a knife to open the box. I want to see if the seller has mailed me some faulty product. The smell is so pungent; I almost fainted in the elevator just now. I don’t believe I bought this myself.”
Han Muzi didn’t think much into it and nodded before going upstairs. She entered the room and put her bag down. Just as she was about to change into casual clothes, she heard a scream from downstairs. This scream was very shrill, and it sent chills down her spine.
Han Muzi was stunned for a few seconds before turning around and rushing downstairs. Then, she found Yan squatting on the ground motionless as if she had been electrocuted.
“What’s wrong?” Han Muzi stepped forward quickly. But after taking a few steps, she suddenly stopped and looked like her system had crashed. Both of them stood frozen to the ground.
A strange silence fell in the living room.
Looking at the opened box, Han Muzi’s originally calm face turned slightly pale, and unstable emotions flashed in her eyes.
“What’s wrong, Aunt Yan?” Little Bean, who had just gone upstairs, also walked downstairs at this moment. Seeing that they both stood rooted to the ground, he walked over to them.
Han Muzi’s expression changed, and she suddenly yelled, “Go back!”
Little Bean stopped dead in his tracks. “Mommy?”
He stood still and tilted his head while looking at Han Muzi; his dark eyes looked confused.
Han Muzi looked at the contents of the box with erratic breathing. “Be good and go back upstairs. If I don’t call you, don’t come out.”
Although Little Bean felt very curious, he listened to Han Muzi’s orders and nodded. Then, he turned back to his room upstairs.
Han Muzi breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that Little Bean had returned to the room.
At this moment, Yan turned her head around mechanically and looked at Han Muzi with a pale face.
“M-Muzi, what should we do?”
