You are already a mother. Han Muzi’s smile faded when she heard that, and she did not reply to Han Qing.
After playing in the amusement park for the entire day, both Yan and Little Bean were so exhausted that they fell asleep while leaning against each other once they got into the car. After all, the two of them were the ones enjoying most of the rides and facilities, whereas Han Qing and Han Muzi observed them from the sidelines.
“Shall we have a meal together?” Han Qing glanced to the back passenger seat while fastening his seatbelt.
Han Muzi turned toward the back for a glance before shaking her head. “Let’s go home. They are exhausted. I should get them home for a good rest. I’ll prepare a simple meal for dinner later.”
“Mm-hmm.” Han Qing nodded in agreement since he shared the same thought.
She had to buy some ingredients since she wanted to prepare dinner. However, Han Muzi was worried that there was no one at home. Hence, she requested Han Qing to stay at home to look over Little Bean and Yan before going off alone to the nearest supermarket.
She didn’t browse through the entire supermarket since she was alone; instead, she selected what she needed very quickly. When she was pushing her cart to pay her bill at the counter, she bumped into a familiar figure when she was making a turn at a corner.
His white collar had been meticulously pressed as there wasn’t a trace of wrinkle. His dark blue suit accentuated his aura. The man had a gentle expression, and when she met his gaze, the man even smiled politely at her while looking especially elegant.
Han Muzi paused in her steps, but she continued pushing her cart forward casually, as if nothing was out of the ordinary. I wouldn’t have expected to bump into Ye Linhan here.
Ye Linhan didn’t look shocked when she ignored him. It seemed as if he was already prepared for Han Muzi to treat him that way. Hence, he chased after her swiftly.
“Did you lose the phone number I gave you?” he asked while walking beside her.
Han Muzi pursed her ruby-red lips while maintaining a cold and detached expression. However, she did not answer him.
Ye Linhan chuckled, as if unperturbed, before explaining, “I’ve waited several days, but you didn’t contact me, so I had no choice but to wait for you in the supermarket.”
Han Muzi halted in her steps when she heard that, but she continued moving forward, determined to ignore him.
“Are you really not going to speak to me, not even for old time’s sake? A simple greeting would be nice.”
Still, she remained silent.
Ye Linhan followed her until she arrived at the cashier. Without waiting for Han Muzi, he reached out straight away and started picking things out from her cart to place them on the cashier counter for the cashier to scan the items.
Han Muzi was rendered speechless by his actions.
The combination of a good-looking man and woman would always be especially eye-catching. Furthermore, Han Muzi and Ye Linhan were exceptionally pretty and handsome respectively. Besides, his actions were especially caring and considerate; even the cashier looked utterly jealous. She couldn’t help but comment, “Miss, your boyfriend is so handsome.”
Ye Linhan’s actions paused, and he glanced at Han Muzi.
She had a blank expression, but she finally spoke after such a long silence, “He is not my boyfriend. I don’t even know him.”
The smile vanished from the cashier’s face. She forced an embarrassed smile while stealing a glance at Ye Linhan’s hands. If she didn’t know him, why would this man help her carry these things? Could he just be… kind-hearted? Or did they just meet in the supermarket just now? Is he trying to flirt with her since she looks so pretty?
The cashier conjured different circumstances in her head before she started scanning the items. This time, Han Muzi did not give Ye Linhan the chance as she handed over her bankcard swiftly. A password was required if one were to swipe a card.
When the cashier handed the machine over to her, Han Muzi turned around as she wanted to remind Ye Linhan that it was his cue to leave. However, he had already turned around and was no longer looking at her.
Han Muzi was rendered speechless. She keyed in her passcode swiftly before taking her card out. Then, she picked up her grocery bags and left straight away.
After she left the supermarket, Han Muzi was planning to return home. However, under the street lamps, she realized that there was another shadow following her from behind. She was frustrated and helpless at the same time. She didn’t want him to follow her, nor did she want to acknowledge him. In fact, she didn’t want to speak to him.
After walking for a short while, Han Muzi stopped dead in her tracks out of anger. However, Ye Linhan came forward immediately to take her bags.
“Is it too heavy? Come, let me help you with those.”
Han Muzi was appalled by his actions. Am I hallucinating? Why are the personalities of these two brothers completely different from five years ago? Naturally, Ye Moxuan has undergone the biggest change. Can five years truly change a person? No, not completely.
After all, I’ve seen how Ye Moxuan treats other people. He is still the same when faced with my company’s staff or Lin Qingqing. He wouldn’t even bother making eye contact. But toward me… What on earth happened within these five years?
She looked at the bags being taken over by Ye Linhan. Just when she was about to reject him, he broke the silence suddenly. “You are heading toward the residential community right in front, aren’t you? I saw you walking out from that area just now. Let’s go. I’ll walk you to the entrance.”
Han Muzi was dumbfounded by his statement.
After that, Ye Linhan led the way. The street lamps cast an even more elongated version of his already long and slender shadow.
Han Muzi eventually went forward after weighing her options.
Ye Linhan finally stopped when he arrived at the entrance of the residential community. “I’m leaving you here. Go on in. Be careful; it’s night time now.’
Han Muzi took her bags and turned into the residential community without a second thought. After several steps forward, she could still sense Ye Linhan’s gaze behind her back. Thus, she paused before turning around to check.
Ye Linhan still had his easy and elegant smile etched across his face, just like all those years ago…
Should I acknowledge him? Han Muzi looked conflicted, and she bit her lower lip while struggling with her mixed feelings.
Ye Linhan was especially considerate. He was slightly bewildered when he noticed Han Muzi’s gaze. After a while, he reassured her with a smile, “Don’t overthink. I have no ill intentions. I’m just meeting an old friend. Go in, now.”
Is he really just meeting an old friend? For some reason, Han Muzi felt that things weren’t as simple as it seemed.
His appearance makes it feel as if the gears of fate have started to rotate. Many things… no longer seem as simple as how they once were.
In the end, Han Muzi remained tight-lipped. She turned around and vanished from Ye Linhan’s sight.
On the other hand, Ye Linhan did not look away until the figure in front of him was completely gone. At the same time, the smile he had across his face faded gradually as well. He took his phone out and opened the photograph of the child which was sent over by his assistant.
The child looked almost identical to Ye Moxuan’s facial features, but he also had a trace of Han Muzi’s coldness in his eyes. Hence, the child’s facial looked especially intricate. One could memorize the child’s face with just a glance.
His assistant spent long hours poring over all the available information, but he only found a single, grainy portrait. It seems like Han Muzi has protected her child very well. I believe I will know the reason she has been trying to protect him so well very soon. Ye Linhan pocketed his phone, and a trace of malicious gleam flashed across his gentle gaze.
