“Mommy, you’re going to the hospital to take care of someone? Why?” Little Bean tilted his head aside, making a dorky face.
After her lie was exposed, Han Muzi naturally wouldn’t dare to lie in front of him, and now was not an exception. “Because that man saved me. If it weren’t for him, I would have been the one lying in the hospital. We need to be grateful for others, so I need to go to the hospital to take care of him because he saved me. Can you understand?” she explained to him patiently while he looked at her with his shiny glass-like eyes, devoid of any debris.
As soon as she was done, Little Bean nodded. “Okay. Then I’ll go with you.”
Han Muzi’s expression changed following his words, and she immediately declined. “No.”
Little Bean was confused. “Mommy, why can’t I? If that man rescued you, and I’m your baby, then I should be following you to the hospital too!”
Han Muzi was rendered speechless. She couldn’t find the words to counter Little Bean, so she simply found a reason to stop him. “No, you can’t. The hospital isn’t some place anyone can go to. There are patients with a lot of bacteria over there. You’re just a kid, and your immune system is too weak; you will be easily infected if you go there.”
“Really?” Little Bean asked.
“Yes. You can ask Aunt Yan if you don’t believe me.”
“It’s true,” Yan followed up with a nod. “The hospital is no fun place to go to. You can go if you’re sick, but it’d be better not to go if you’re not. Besides, you’re still a small kid, so your mother is going to have to keep looking after you. How will she have the time to take care of the person who saved her then? Little Bean, if you really want to thank that man, you can wait till he is better and treat him to a meal with your mommy—” Yan suddenly stopped her words as she realized she had said something inappropriate. She awkwardly looked toward Han Muzi and quickly changed the subject. “It’s getting late now. Little Bean, we need to go back home before dark.”
“Okay. Then mommy… I’ll go back with Aunt Yan now,” Little Bean announced.
“Alright.” Han Muzi brushed his head and hugged his little body while feeling reluctant to leave him. “Have a good night’s sleep. I’ll bring you to the amusement park two days later after I’m free.”
“You must keep your words, mommy. You promised me the last time at my birthday that you’d bring me there, but it has yet to come true.”
Han Muzi was silenced by him.
“Alright. Let’s go.” Yan quickly grabbed hold of Little Bean in her arms and went outside because she didn’t want him to cling on to Han Muzi much longer.
She knew Han Muzi very well. She knew that she was in an awkward position, so she handled it perfectly.
After they were gone, Han Muzi swiftly entered the kitchen and started cooking. All the ingredients were prepared, so she just fired up the stove. When she was done cooking, it had turned dark outside.
When she was about to leave with the thermos, her phone rang.
It was from Ye Moxuan.
She frowned after getting the call. What is he doing calling me at this time?
Then, she picked up. “Hello?”
“Are you coming or what?”
Han Muzi took a look at the thermos in her hand and replied angrily, “Cooking for you is very time-consuming, alright?”
“I see.” His voice turned from anger to joy in mere seconds after hearing that she was preparing food for him. His voice was filled with delight as he uttered softly, “It may not be safe for you now that it’s dark. I will send Xiao Su over to pick you up. Where are you now?”
Xiao Su is willing to fetch me? The notion of going to the car park faded from her head. After all, there weren’t many people at the car park, and it was dark, so there might be dangerous people lurking there. But I can’t tell Ye Moxuan my address, or else he will come and find me after. What am I going to do if he really comes by and sees Little Bean?
For a moment, Han Muzi was hesitant to tell him her address.
“Where did your mind wander off to?” The man’s clear voice from the phone brought her senses back.
She thought about it for a while and decided to wait at a supermarket nearby.
After the thought came to her mind, she told him the supermarket’s name.
“You’re at the supermarket?” Ye Moxuan was curious, so he asked again.
Han Muzi let out a soft cough as she tried to lie. “I happened to be heading to the supermarket to buy something. It’s more convenient for him to go there from the hospital.”
“Pfft.” Ye Moxuan let out a chuckle. “Woman… since when did you have such good time management?”
“Don’t come if you have so much to rumble about. I can drive there myself!” Han Muzi snapped at him.
“Heh. Look how easily you’re annoyed. Why don’t you stay there and just leave me alone at the hospital?”
Han Muzi was left speechless. She couldn’t talk back to him because he was now a patient, so he must be prioritized.
As she went silent, Ye Moxuan, who was on the other side of the phone, softened up. “He’ll be there soon. Keep in touch.”
“Alright.”
After hanging up on the call, Han Muzi grabbed the keys and went out.
Due to the dream, Han Muzi felt a shiver in her heart as she went out. It was quiet outside, and she didn’t meet anyone while taking the elevator. To reach the entrance gate, she must walk along a small pathway. Even though there were street lamps around, it was still a bit dark.
Han Muzi held her breath while her beautiful eyes surveyed the surroundings as she walked. She was afraid somebody would suddenly pop up out of the dark.
Rustle. The bushes rattled and sent goosebumps all over Han Muzi’s body. She suddenly stood still, as if she was paralyzed.
Then, she looked carefully at the rattling bush.
Later on, a stray cat pounced out of it while holding a kitten in its mouth. It became cautious after seeing Han Muzi and went back to the bush to hide.
After seeing this, Han Muzi felt a huge sense of relief. Thank god it’s only a cat. But… the cat looks like it’s trying to move the kitten away from the nest.
She couldn’t help but go over to have a look. The closer she went, the clearer she could hear the kitten’s call. As soon as the cat, which was holding the kitten, saw her, it immediately let out a cautious hiss, warning her to back off.
“Don’t be afraid. I mean no harm.” Han Muzi stopped her steps and suddenly had an idea. She opened the thermos and took something out of the top container.
It was a plate of steamed fish, which she planned on giving Ye Moxuan to eat, but now… the cat would be having it.
“Have this…” Han Muzi placed the plate of steamed fish in front of the cat.
The cat sniffed the fish, and its eyes lit up as it looked toward her. It was still afraid of going up to her.
Han Muzi examined the surrounding and realized that it was a secluded spot, so probably no one would come here to disturb the cat. Then, she pushed the container closer to the bush so it would be hidden, and she later stood up and left.
