“I went out to settle some business.” At the last minute, Shen Qi persuaded herself to not use her business with Lu Group as an excuse. It was Old Master Ye’s orders to not tell Ye Moxuan; if she told him the truth, she would be betraying Old Master Ye and it would only worsen the relationship between them.
Which was why Shen Qi pursed her lips and chose to not tell him the truth.
Ye Moxuan narrowed his eyes in suspicion and glared at her. “I’ll give you one last chance. Tell me the truth!”
His voice was cold and harsh. Shen Qi was extremely afraid, but she bit her lower lip and said, “I only went out to buy some things. Besides, you have already decided to deduct one month of my salary and I didn’t have any objections. I don’t think there is a need for you to know where I went.”
Ye Moxuan was momentarily stunned before he glared at her dangerously. “Repeat what you just said.”
Shen Qi gripped her phone and slowly inched toward the door. “I don’t want to!”
At her reaction, he raised an eyebrow and asked, “Where are you going?”
“Somewhere far away from you!”
At that, Shen Qi hurriedly turned around and ran out of the room to look for the maid that she had spoken with earlier on. As she ran, she constantly looked back to check if Ye Moxuan was chasing after her. After she was sure he didn’t follow her, she let out a sigh of relief before she took a look at her phone and realized that the message she received was from Han Xueyou. ‘I’m already on my way. Wait for my good news.’
Seeing how determined Han Xueyou was, Shen Qi felt like she didn’t need to worry as much.
Shen Qi stood outside for a long time, waiting for Han Xueyou’s call.
After waiting for some time, Han Xueyou finally called and said, “It’s done. You can relax now.”
Suppressing her excitement, Shen Qi asked in a soft voice, “Did you get it?”
“Yes, I did. It’s safe in my hands. Do you want me to take a picture for you?”
“There’s no need for that. All that matters is you have it. But… how did you guys do it? Did anyone notice?”
“Don’t worry. With my way of handling things, you can rest assured. Qi, just go and relax. By the way, you probably know what to do if somebody asks you about what happened today, don’t you? That’s all for now. I have some things to do, so I’m going to hang up now. Bye!”
With that, Han Xueyou hung up the phone. Meanwhile, Shen Qi stood still, a little confused about what had just happened. Xueyou never leaves any loose ends untied, so I guess that this chaos is finally over for now.
While she was lost in her thoughts, she heard the sounds of panting and saw the maid that had cleaned her room earlier running toward her. “Second Young Lady.”
When Shen Qi saw her, she kept her phone in her pocket and put on a calm expression.
“Yes?”
The maid was in a panic. She bit her lower lip and said, “Second Young Lady, I-I’m sorry! Yu just told me that she accidentally lost your button.”
Hearing this, Shen Qi raised an eyebrow and asked, “What do you mean? How did she lose my button?”
“Yu got into a car accident when she was on her way back from buying groceries. She dropped everything, and she managed to get all of it back except the button…”
Car accident?
Shen Qi’s eyelids twitched and she hurriedly took a step forward. “Car accident? Is she hurt?”
The maid was so shocked by her reaction that she stuttered as she replied, “N-No. She just dropped some things. It wasn’t a serious car accident.”
When Shen Qi heard that, she let out a sigh of relief.
Han Xueyou’s ways are seriously shocking! I can’t believe she staged a car accident just to retrieve the button. She’s crazy!
“Second Young Lady, Yu is not hurt but she lost your button. What should we do?” The maid didn’t forget why the previous maid left the Ye residence; she heard rumors that she was fired because she spilt milk on the Second Young Lady. Before she left, she even talked bad about Shen Qi so everybody could guess what had happened. Since then, the maids had become terribly afraid of the Second Young Lady who had just started living in the Ye residence not long ago.
Shen Qi frowned and was lost in her thoughts for a while before she came back to her senses. “Never mind, it’s just a button. Since she can’t find it, let’s just forget that I’ve ever had it.”
“But… didn’t you say that the button is important to you?”
“It is important to me, but your safety is also important. It would be absurd to punish you just because of a button. It’s fine if she can’t find it. However, none of you can mention this button in the future. Otherwise… I might miss it.”
The maid hurriedly nodded her head and replied, “Second Young Lady, don’t worry. I will definitely not mention it anymore. I’ll also pass the message to Yu. Second Young Lady, it’s very kind of you for not being angry at us. Thank you!”
“Well then, I’ll get going.”
The next day.
Early in the morning, Shen Qi was called to his study by Old Master Ye.
“What’s the latest update for the thing I asked you to do yesterday?”
Shen Qi’s lips trembled a little as she said, “After they heard that I was from the Ye Group, they didn’t want to speak with me.”
Hearing that, Old Master Ye frowned. “What? Did Lu Xunchang decide that he doesn’t want to work with the Ye Group anymore?”
Shen Qi stayed silent. After some thought, Old Master Ye then said, “It must be because the Lu Group is upset that Ye Group doesn’t want to work with them. Shen Qi, go pick a gift for me and send it to Lu Xunchang. Tell him that the Ye Group is not entirely under Ye Moxuan’s control yet.”
When Shen Qi heard his orders, she bit her lower lip and didn’t say anything.
“Do you hear me?” Old Master Ye’s tone suddenly became stern, startling Shen Qi. She then immediately came back to her senses and nodded. “Yes, Old Master Ye.”
After her previous experience, Shen Qi didn’t dare to leave her post without requesting permission from Ye Moxuan; she was afraid that they might deduct another month of her salary. If that happens, she would definitely go broke, and so she went to Ye Moxuan’s office to ask for permission.
To her surprise, Ye Moxuan didn’t even bother to look at her and rejected her coldly. “No.”
Shen Qi was a little confused by his answer so she asked, “No? Why not?”
Ye Moxuan ignored her; his gaze was focused on the documents and it was obvious he didn’t plan on giving her an answer.
Shen Qi saw this so she bit her lower lip and took two steps forward and said, “Young Master Ye, I really have some important business to handle, hence I need to leave the company for a short while.”
“I told you, the answer is no.”
“What’s the reason?”
“Get out!”
“Ye Moxuan!”
Slam!
Furious, Ye Moxuan put down the documents in his hand and slammed his palm on the table.
The sound was extra loud in the quiet office.
Shen Qi immediately swallowed what she wanted to say, and the both of them just glared at each other.
In the end, Shen Qi was forced to give in, thereafter she turned and left the office.
After Shen Qi left his office, she was infuriated. Those two men had really put her in a tight spot; it was hard being the middleman for Old Master Ye and Ye Moxuan.
She was extremely frustrated. What am I going to do now? Should I follow Old Master Ye’s instructions and send Lu Xunchang a gift? But I don’t have much savings left. Besides, Lu Xunchang is the President of Lu Group; the gifts I can afford are not fancy enough for a man like him. However, if I don’t get something for him, I won’t be able to face Old Master Ye when I return home tonight.
The thought of it made Shen Qi’s head spin.
After some consideration, Shen Qi got up from her seat and walked toward Ye Moxuan’s office. This time, Ye Moxuan roared just after she knocked on the door.
“Leave!!”
Shen Qi had failed once again.
Fine, there is no other away. All I can do is try my luck at the Lu Group after work.
After Shen Qi made her decision, she didn’t disturb Ye Moxuan anymore.
Once working hours were over, Shen Qi hurriedly cleaned her desk and ran out of the office. Racing against time, she took a bus to the Lu Group.
“Young Master Ye, Assistant Shen left the office right after working hours ended.”
