“Oh my, Mr. Lin is having one of his outbursts again.”
Xi panicked instantly.
Han Muzi pondered before turning to Yan and suddenly suggested, “Let’s hide first.”
“What?”
Before Yan could respond to that, Han Muzi had already dragged her to a corner. Xi snapped back to her senses and followed suit to hide together with them.
She glanced at Han Muzi in admiration while commenting, “You are awesome! You actually saw through Lin Zheng’s thoughts.”
“What thoughts?” Yan asked in bewilderment. She was obviously still in a daze.
No one wants anyone else to see them at their lowest point.
Lin Zheng, the youth, has always been anti-social and distant toward others. He seems to be the type of man who values his pride and dignity.
How could a man like that possibly be willing to let others see him in such a vulnerable state?
Yan and my arrival will only further embarrass him.
Han Muzi pursed her lips after processing her thoughts. Then, she said, “Since he is fine, let’s go back to the company.”
Yan was dumbfounded when she heard that. “Are we going back to the company now? We haven’t even got to meet him yet.”
Han Muzi smiled faintly and replied to her, “We have to work overtime tonight, so we can’t waste time here. Let’s go.”
“Alright, I shall go along with it.”
Xi did not stop them when she heard that they were leaving. On the contrary, she thanked Han Muzi gratefully.
“Thank you. You both are such kind people. Please be careful on your way back, and remember to have the wounds on your hands treated in the hospital.”
“Sure, I will.”
When the two of them left the slum, they were surprised because there was a cab parked right in front of them.
The cab driver must have heard footsteps because he poked his head out of the car window.
“You two are finally back.”
Han Muzi and Yan exchanged glances in silence.
Why does this scene feel familiar somehow?
Oh, that’s right. Something similar happened when Yan and I went looking for Zhao Yiru at the filming set.
Are cab drivers in North City so customer-oriented in general?
“Are you alright? I figured this area’s too dangerous, and I felt it was unsafe for two young women to enter that area alone, so I waited for you both. I was planning to call the police if you didn’t head back out.”
After that, the driver scratched his head while chuckling shyly.
“However, right now, it seems like I have been acting like a busybody. Well… that is my flaw. Clearly, there’s nothing to worry about, but I ended up overthinking. I would feel bad for leaving if I knew you were both in potential danger.”
Han Muzi approached him and thanked him sincerely.
“Sir, thank you so much. We are fine. Can you please drive us back to where you picked us up earlier?”
“Sure, get in.”
The cab driver drove them back to the company. Just before Han Muzi got out of the car, she asked for the cab driver’s business card. Then, she walked into her company building.
“Don’t you think that ever since we have returned home, the quality of the cab drivers we have met thus far has been top notch? Previously, I’ve always read about those horrifying news about cab drivers murdering their passengers. It has been traumatizing for me… But it turns out there are kind people around after all.”
Upon hearing that, Han Muzi smiled faintly. “Fortune and misfortune come hand-in-hand. Where there is darkness, there will definitely be rays of sunshine. These things… are often dependent on luck as well.”
It was already getting late by the time the two of them entered the company. Han Muzi went ahead to the canteen for some food. Unfortunately, her hands were so painful that she couldn’t even hold her chopsticks, so she didn’t even manage to eat anything in the end.
“You can’t go on like this. You can’t possibly work with the state of your hands. I think we shouldn’t work overtime tonight.”
“No, let’s head upstairs first.”
Han Muzi returned to her office, whereas Yan bought a sandwich for her from a shop nearby. Han Muzi was able to hold the sandwich, and so she had some to eat.
After that, just when Han Muzi was about to start work, someone knocked on her office door.
“Come in.”
Her office door opened, and she heard heavy footsteps entering her room.
The footsteps stopped right in front of her desk. Han Muzi was astounded, and she sensed there was something amiss. She looked and gazed into a pair of helpless eyes which were staring back at her.
The person standing in front of her was none other than Han Qing, who was in a suit.
His dark eyes were observing her face helplessly, and his gaze shifted downward to her heavily-bandaged hands. He seemed distressed when he asked, “Are you forcing yourself to work despite your injuries?”
Han Muzi was rendered speechless at that moment.
Why is Han Qing here?
She thought for a moment and turned to glance at Yan, who was standing just beside her. Yan immediately picked a folder up to shield her face behind it while clearing her throat softly.
That tattletale. She must have told Han Qing about my injuries.
Yan commented quietly, “I did not say anything. I merely updated Little Bean.”
I’ve already embarrassed myself in front of my crush, so of course I wouldn’t dare text him after that incident. Besides, I am already feeling extremely uncomfortable and embarrassed right now.
“Qing,” Han Muzi greeted him with a smile while standing up. “What are you doing here? I still have some work, unfortunately. So I can’t keep you company just yet.”
“Do you honestly think I came all the way here for your company?” Han Qing made his way around the table toward Han Muzi. He held her wrist straight away and growled firmly, “Let’s go home.”
Han Muzi’s expression changed slightly, but she explained, “I can’t. I have to stay and work overtime tonight.”
“Why are you working overtime when you are so badly injured?” Han Qing’s expression darkened instantly, and he stared at her with a disgruntled look. “I started a company because I wanted you to settle down in North City. I didn’t do all that for you to be so careless and injure yourself. You don’t even care that you’re hurt.”
Han Muzi reassured him, “Qing, I’m honestly fine.”
“Cancel working overtime tonight. You either come home with me, or you’re going to the hospital.”
“I’m not going,” insisted Han Muzi stubbornly. “I just sustained some light injuries on my fingers. It’s not severe enough to abandon work.”
The next second, Han Qing tightened his grip and dragged Han Muzi to the door straight away. Han Muzi’s expression soured immediately while she shouted, “Qing, Qing! Let me go!”
However, Han Qing seemed oblivious to her screams because he continued dragging her out of the office. Upon seeing that, Yan got up and started packing Han Muzi’s bag and belongings from the table. After that, she chased after them from behind until they were out of the building.
After finally walking Han Muzi to the car, Yan handed her things to Han Qing with a smile. “Thank you for your help, President Han!”
She vanished into the building after thanking him while pretending that she was oblivious to Han Muzi’s death stare.
Once she returned upstairs, Yan noticed the group of staff members gathered at the window in a heated discussion.
“What is happening? Did Han Qing actually show up? What’s up with him acting so fierce? I’m guessing that woman angered her. In that case, wouldn’t we be switching bosses soon? Tsk, I told you that things obtained through unusual means wouldn’t last,” Zhang Yu spat with a sharp tongue while openly mocking Han Muzi.
Leng Yueyue, who was just beside Zhang Yu, smirked. “Didn’t she tell us to work overtime? Why is she the first to leave?”
“What nonsense are all of you spouting? Muzi injured her hands, and that is why she couldn’t work. All of you should continue working overtime. I will go through your work tonight!”
“You? Are you even qualified?”
“If you are reluctant to do so, feel free to pack your stuff and leave right now.”
“How dare you!”
Yan lifted her chin up in defiance. Oh my, it is refreshing and great to be in a position of power.
