“No worries, Vice President Ye. How is Miss Shen? She doesn’t seem to be doing well.” Ye Zi truly was Ye Linhan’s effective assistant because she knew what was most important to Ye Linhan.
“She’s having a high fever, and it has just subsided not too long ago.”
Ye Zi hesitated before glancing at Ye Linhan. “Vice President Ye, don’t worry. You should rest. I will phone the company later in the morning and handle everything there. I can look over Miss Shen here because it looks as if you haven’t had any rest, Vice President Ye. You should sleep now; otherwise, it might take a toll on your body.”
“Mm-hmm, thank you.” Ye Linhan shot Ye Zi a grateful look. She is undeniably my assistant who has worked for me for years. She understood the situation within minutes upon arriving, and she knows her roles and what to do while understanding my priorities.
Ye Zi had always been meticulous in her work throughout the years. Hence, with her around, Ye Linhan felt relieved.
He could finally get some shut-eye, and he fell deep asleep almost instantly upon closing his eyes.
Ye Linhan knew that he could fall asleep without any worries this time.
Soon, Ye Zi heard Ye Linhan’s breathing turning into a steady rhythm. She glanced at Ye Linhan helplessly while sighing. “What power does love possess to drive people into putting their lives on the line?”
After wondering aloud due to a sudden surge of emotions, Ye Zi placed a hand over her chest and commented, “That does not seem right, and I shouldn’t have said that. Vice President Ye has just fallen asleep, but… he really treats Miss Shen well. Sigh.”
Ye Zi made herself comfortable and found a seat at the side. She figured that it must be something urgent since her superior phoned her in the middle of the night. Hence, she brought along all her important files and notebook. She could use the time now to get some work done.
As she thought of that, Ye Zi took her notebook out and placed it on her lap before logging into her account to arrange what needed to be done later today.
I would most probably have to stay in the company for the whole day today. Since Ye Linhan is so badly injured, I doubt he’ll be going in for work today. In that case, I’ll have to schedule and arrange certain tasks for today beforehand. Otherwise, if there happens to be any mistakes, I’ll be the one who will have to sort the mess out.
Ye Zi was very efficient with her work, and soon enough, she was already done with arranging today’s work. After that, she sent it to her department’s staff email. Once she was done, she checked the time and realized that it was not even seven in the morning.
I still have time.
Ye Zi glanced at the two people who were lying in bed. I wonder how long these two will be asleep for.
In the end, Ye Zi texted that staff directly and instructed him to phone her after receiving her text message. She felt slightly sleepy, so she prepared some instant coffee and enjoyed it in the room.
It was already ten in the morning, but the two of them didn’t seem as if they might wake up anytime soon.
Shen Qi was still stuck in her nightmares, and she felt attacked by the horrible things those people spouted at her. She did not know how to fight back because even after going against them, those people would have a comeback almost instantly, defeating her thoroughly while forcing her into a corner.
“N-No!” Shen Qi cried aloud in shock, and she struggled to open her eyes.
She opened her eyes to an infinitely white ceiling as if she was staring at a vast land covered in snow.
Ye Qi had finished two cups of instant coffee, but she was so bored that she almost fell asleep. Just when she was about to doze off while leaning her hand against the table, Shen Qi’s sudden scream woke her up with a start.
Ye Zi’s eyes shot open in surprise, and she looked toward the source of the scream, and she saw that Shen Qi was awake.
Ye Zi rubbed her cheeks sleepily before getting up from her seat to approach Shen Qi.
“Miss Shen, you are finally awake.”
Shen Qi was stunned when she heard the gentle voice of a woman. It took a while before she responded and looked at the person.
She looks familiar, but my head is so painful. I think I know this person, but it feels like I don’t know her.
“You are…”
Ye Zi’s expression changed slightly before she explained, “I am Vice President Ye’s assistant, Ye Zi. We’ve met several times before at work in the past. Miss Shen, do you not remember me?”
Shen Qi recalled with a start that they had indeed met before in the company after her kind reminder.
She couldn’t recall who she was after waking up from such a deep slumber.
Shen Qi nodded and answered sofly, “I remember now.”
Ye Zi wasn’t sure what to say. “It seems like I really am insignificant. We’ve met several times, but you don’t even remember me, Miss Shen.”
Shen Qi felt rather embarrassed upon hearing that. Then, she tried moving because she wanted to sit up.
Ye Zi rushed forward to help her up before placing a pillow behind her back for support. After that, without even asking Shen Qi, Ye Zi turned around to pour her a cup of warm water.
When Ye Zi returned with a cup of warm water in her hands, Shen Qi was staring at Ye Linhan while looking worried.
“Miss Shen, don’t worry because Vice President Ye is fine. You don’t have to worry about him.”
“Really?” Shen Qi lowered her eyes and recalled what had happened last night. Ye Moxuan rejected her and refused to let her enter, and it started pouring unexpectedly. After that, she fainted in the heavy rain, and Ye Linhan carried her away.
Shen Qi felt guilty when she recalled how Ye Linhan followed her around along the way despite sustaining such severe injuries.
“That’s right, Miss Shen. Have some hot water to warm yourself up.”
Ye Zi handed her a cup of water, and Shen Qi took several sips, but she stopped after that.
“What did the doctor say? He was in the rain just like me yesterday too.”
Ye Zi was stunned for a while when she heard that because everything was settled by the time she arrived, so she had only witnessed the end result. Ye Zi had no idea what happened before that, and she couldn’t ask anyone else. Hence, after listening to Shen Qi’s question, Ye Zi cocked a brow at her. “When I arrived, Vice President Ye was still awake. He was the one who phoned me to ask me to look after you, Miss Shen. After that, he couldn’t stay awake and soon fell asleep.”
Shen Qi’s lips parted as if she was about to say something, but she was at a loss for words at that moment.
Ye Zi pondered before she added, “It was already in the wee hours by the time I arrived. Miss Shen, do you remember what time you arrived at the hospital?”
Shen Qi did not reply to Ye Zi. Although I have no idea what time I arrived at the hospital, I can guess that from the moment I arrived at the hospital, Ye Linhan must have been looking after me until Ye Zi arrived.
This man… He’s unbelievable!
Shen Qi had no words to describe him. Whenever he shows his flaws, I can reject him firmly. Despite how kind and generous he treats me, I’m always ruthless when I reject him.
But why does he still treat me so well? He treats me so well that I can’t think of a way to repay him.
He has done so much for me that I am eaten up with guilt from within.
I can’t reciprocate his feelings at all!
But why doesn’t Ye Linhan understand this?!
