“Young Master Ye does not want to see you, and you will never walk through this door again. You are no longer the Second Young Lady of the Ye family from now on, so please leave.”

People and scenes from the past flashed through her mind continuously. These scenes were seizing her deeply buried weaknesses while attacking her viciously.
“No… Don’t chase me out. No…”
Ye Linhan, who was waiting by Shen Qi’s bedside, heard her moaning throughout the night. She was mumbling words or phrases like ‘No’ and ‘Don’t chase me away.’ In fact, these were the only two sentences that appeared over and over again.
Ye Linhan sighed helplessly when he heard that, and he looked as if his heart was broken into a million pieces.
Ever since he brought Shen Qi back to the hospital, she had been running on a high fever. This went on until now, and her fever wouldn’t subside, and since she was pregnant, the doctors couldn’t prescribe her with most medication, so they could only help her lower her body temperature by physical means.
Ye Linhan waited by her bedside for a long time. It had already been more than an hour, but her fever would just not subside. On the contrary, her fever crept higher.
A nurse was looking after Shen Qi, and she couldn’t help but shoot Ye Linhan a look while reminding him. “Mister, you’ve been awake looking after her for over an hour. Your body can’t take it anymore, so it’s best for you to take some rest to recuperate. I will be here to take good care of her.”
“No.” Ye Linhan pursed his lips while shaking his head. “I’ll be worried as long as her fever does not subside.”
“I will take care of her, and her fever will subside without a doubt. It’s useless for you to wait by her bedside because if you go on like this, your body will collapse.”
Ye Linhan remained silent, and his gaze never left Shen Qi. He kept changing the damp towel used to sponge her forehead.
The nurse felt helpless. This man is so stubborn, and he just wouldn’t listen to our advice. Both of them are injured, but they insisted on leaving. In the end, the two of them came back to the hospital completely drenched in rain. The woman is running a high fever and unconscious, whereas the man’s wounds are now infected. Yet, he is going to get injuries treated. He insists on sponging the woman to decrease her temperature. I could feel a headache coming on.
“Mister, with all due respect, you have injuries all over your body, and you were caught in the rain. If your wounds get infected later, you will end up running a fever too. Even if her fever subsides, don’t you think that you would be infecting her with some sort of illness once it is your turn to have a fever?”
Ye Linhan’s movements paused when he heard that as if what she said was giving him second thoughts.
When the nurse noticed that, she added in a hurry, “So, it’s best to leave the work here to me because I will take very good care of her. You should go ahead and get your wounds treated.”
Ye Linhan nodded while handing the towel over to the nurse.
The nurse finally let out a sigh of relief. This is my patient, and if something goes wrong, I wouldn’t be able to face myself.
Ye Linhan did not go too far away because the two of them were in the same hospital room. He was placed in the bed next to hers. The nurse found a doctor to treat his wounds as she continued looking after Shen Qi.
Although someone was already starting to treat Ye Linhan’s wounds, his eyes were still focused on Shen Qi who was beside him.
“Please lie down because you are running a fever too,” the doctor advised while patting his shoulder, asking him to lie down on the bed.
Ye Linhan was still worried, and his eyes were glued to Shen Qi.
“If you don’t receive treatment soon, your body will collapse. If that happens, who will look after her? So, please lie down for your treatment. You are physically fit and well, and as long as you receive proper treatment, you will not faint.”
Ye Linhan felt better and lay down on the bed.
After much persuasion, the doctor finally managed to attend to all the wounds on Ye Linhan’s body. Shen Qi’s high fever started subsiding as well. However, she seemed to be struggling with constant nightmares because she would not stop talking in her sleep, and her forehead was beaded with cold sweat.
The nurse, who arrived later, approached the first nurse before leaving the hospital room together. They started discussing in hushed tones. “Oh my God, that man is so loving and loyal. He is so determined too. Just look at him! He has not collapsed despite suffering such severe injuries. He must be extremely determined. If I were in his shoes, I wouldn’t be able to push through it.”
“Sigh, you don’t understand. Some men are willing to give up their lives for the sake of their women. I can lose myself in his eyes because he stares at her with such love and tenderness. Why can’t I meet a man like him? He is so loyal and handsome.”
“All right now, that’s enough. We will get an earful if the matron hears us.”
“Ah, I am not bad mouthing anyone. I’m just lamenting.”
“You should not even do that because the matron will claim that you aren’t working. Come on, let’s go.”
The two of them chatted while walking farther away.
The surrounding was silent because it was in the wee hours. The corridors of the hospital were deserted, and apart from the occasional beeping sounds of the hospital equipment, there were only steady breathing sounds of patients on the floor.
Ye Linhan lay on his side on the bed while looking at Shen Qi who was on the adjacent bed to him.
He was exhausted after going through the ordeal. I wonder what medication the doctor hooked me up to? Why am I so sleepy? His eyelids were getting heavier and heavier.
He looked as if he was about to fall asleep, but Ye Linhan opened his eyes wide suddenly.
I can’t sleep. Who will look after Shen Qi if I’m asleep? What will I do if she runs away in the middle of the night after waking up?
It’s still raining outside, and she was running on high fever earlier. She can’t afford to fall sick agsjn.
Forget it. I just have to hang in there.
Ye Linhan wanted to phone his assistant, Ye Zi, but his phone was out of battery. In the end, he had no choice but to borrow a nurse’s phone when she came in to do her rounds. Then, Ye Linhan phoned his assistant in a hurry.
Although it was in the wee hours of the day, Ye Zi rushed over the moment she received Ye Linhan’s call.
“Vice President Ye, why… What happened?” Ye Zi was shocked when she saw the scene before her because the two of them were fine earlier in the day when she was sending the documents to them. Why are they both sick now after one night?
“It’s complicated. Anyway, I need your help now.”
Ye Zi nodded immediately. “Just let me know if you need anything, Vice President Ye. I am your assistant after all, and it’s my job to sort things out for you.”
“I’m sorry, but there’s a reason why things got out of hand. I had to phone you even though you shouldn’t be working yet.”
