I don’t want to stay close to Ye Moxuan.
“I already told him I want a divorce,” Shen Qi blurted out.
Shen Qi heard a sharp intake of breath on the other end of the phone call. Yan seemed to be in a daze, and she stuttered after a very long pause, “D-D-Did you really ask him for a divorce? Did he agree to it?”
“No, he didn’t.”
Yan let out a sigh of relief. “You just scared me witless. Why would you bring up divorce so casually? You are lucky that Young Master Ye did not agree to it.”
“I wasn’t being casual about it,” countered Shen Qi sternly. “I was serious.”
Yan hesitated before voicing her opinion. “Why would you be serious about that? Why did you suggest getting a divorce? Wouldn’t you be giving Han Xueyou a chance if you get a divorce? You shouldn’t give that type of woman any chance at all! If you leave, wouldn’t you be playing right into her hands?”
Shen Qi remained silent when she heard that.
Maybe it’s true that many people wouldn’t allow others to get what they wish for so easily.
But from where I stand, that’s not how I view things. I believe that it takes two to tango. If Ye Moxuan had not provided an opening for Han Xueyou, the two of them wouldn’t have ended up together.
Since the two of them are together, I should give them my blessing. What is wrong with that?
After all, I truly don’t have the strength to compete with her. It’s not that I am not confident that I can’t win the competition, but the fact is—even if I won the fight, would his heart be mine?
I believe I’d be at a disadvantage either way, and it wouldn’t be worth it. I will only further exhaust myself.
“Why aren’t you saying anything? Qi, what are you thinking?”
“I’m just following my heart,” Shen Qi replied in a quiet voice once she snapped back to reality. “Yan, you shouldn’t concern yourself with this matter. This is my decision, and no one can change my mind.”
Yan was rendered speechless by Shen Qi’s reply, and so after telling Shen Qi it was up to her, Yan hung up on her.
Shen Qi spaced out for a while to the engaged tone through the phone before putting her phone away helplessly.
I suppose I have nowhere else to go tonight.
However, her phone started ringing unexpectedly, and it was Yan phoning her again. “Weren’t you planning to stay over at my place? Come over, then. I’ll have you tonight.”
Initially, Shen Qi appeared very sad, but when she heard that, a grin broke across her face, and she replied to Yan in delight, “Thank you, Yan.”
“You should get over here now if you’re coming because it’s dangerous later at night.”
“Alright.”
Shen Qi grabbed her bag after keeping her phone, and then she dashed out of the room at full speed.
Coincidentally, Ye Moxuan was nowhere to be seen. Hence, she left the house without a hitch, and no one stopped her.
The only good thing she had ever since she married into the Ye family was the fact that no one would control where she went, and she was free to go whenever she pleased.
Hence, even though she was leaving the house so late at night, nobody was there to stop her.
Shen Qi flagged a cab down and headed straight to Yan’s house. When Shen Qi was on the way, Yan phoned to check on her. Hence, Shen Qi checked with the cab driver, who then informed her that they’d be arriving in another five to six minutes.
Yan complained after she heard that. “Why are you taking so long? Are you a tortoise?”
“Alright, I’ll be there in a bit. We’re just a couple of minutes away now.”
By the time Shen Qi arrived, she saw Yan waiting for her from afar while holding a bag. When Yan saw a car driving toward her, she looked toward the back passenger seat and broke into a faint smile when she saw Shen Qi.
After paying for the cab fare, Shen Qi heard Yan starting to complain. “You really are a tortoise, aren’t you? Do you know how long I was waiting downstairs for you while holding this bag?”
Shen Qi turned around and gave her a bear hug. “I’m sorry. The driver said that he was already driving at maximum speed. You could have waited for me upstairs, you know? I would have phoned you when I arrived.”
“Tsk! Do you think that I really wanted to wait for you? I was just coming downstairs to buy some things, and I couldn’t be bothered to make several trips, and that was why I waited for you right here for my convenience.”
“What did you buy?”
“Hey, that’s not the point!”
Shen Qi was startled, but soon enough, she burst out laughing. After that, Yan took the lead, and they both entered the elevator to return to Yan’s house.
Yan was from a middle-class family; although she was not from a wealthy family, she had a happy life, for she is the only child at home. Thus, her parents bought a house for her early on, and so she had a head start of living independently.
Shen Qi made the right choice of reaching out to Yan because Yan had always been complaining that she was too lonely, but she couldn’t find a suitable boyfriend, and that was the main reason she had been living alone.
After entering the house, Yan placed her things on the table before breaking the silence. “Judging from your looks, I’m guessing that you have not showered. Did you come over straight away without even bothering to shower?”
Shen Qi nodded in distress when she heard that. “I left in a rush, so how could I have possibly had the time to shower? It would have taken me a longer time if I had showered.”
“Tsk!” Yan snorted in disdain before heading to her kitchen. “In that case, let’s have something to eat. You can have your shower after a meal, and feel free to wear my clothes. Let me be clear, though—my clothes are from normal stalls of mass production, and it’s nothing like the designer brand pieces that Young Master Ye buys for you. But if you have the audacity to complain about the quality of my clothes, I will throw you off the building!”
Shen Qi rolled her eyes before snapping back, “What nonsense is that? It’s fine as long as the clothes are comfortable. Besides, your clothes look much better than what I used to wear.”
Ye Moxuan just doesn’t want me to embarrass the Ye family, and that was why he bought so many expensive clothes for me.
Initially, Shen Qi was not used to it, but with practice, she had become accustomed to them. After all, they were all clothes, which merely provided protection for the body, and she was not particular about such things.
Yan was quite compatible with Shen Qi in personality because she was quick-tempered, whereas Shen Qi was slightly more calm and collected. Hence, they made up for each other’s shortcomings when they were together; in fact, they quite enjoyed each other’s company and were happy to have each other.
That night, Shen Qi enjoyed her supper with Yan.
After that, Yan was in the mood for a drink, and so she went downstairs to buy some beer to have them with Shen Qi.
In the beginning, they were chattering happily away over several drinks, but toward the end, the two of them were so drunk that they could barely stay upright.
Yan downed a huge gulp of beer before scolding loudly, “Shen Qi, don’t you think you are a fool? Tsk… If it were any other women, they would have started beating the mistress up if they were to show up at their doorstep. But you, on the other hand… Burp… are offering your husband to the mistress on a silver platter!”
Shen Qi was drunk as well, and her fair cheeks were now flushed ruby-red, which made her look like a ripened apple. She burst out laughing when she heard that. “Why shouldn’t I offer him up? It’s so exhausting to compete with someone else for my own husband… I-I don’t want that.”
“Hmph! Why would you give up just because it’s exhausting? Burp… Let me tell you, it would be a completely different scenario if I were in your shoes because I would have beat Han Xueyou to death… Burp… I’d let her understand the consequences of being a mistress, and I’d let her know what a dangerous person I am! Burp!”
Suddenly, the silhouette of Ye Moxuan appeared clearly before Shen Qi’s eyes, and so she squinted before shaking her head. However, Ye Moxuan’s figure was still right there in front of her, and so she thundered, “Ye Moxuan… get lost!”
“Get lost… Get lost because I don’t want to see you.”
Yan saw Shen Qi flapping her arms around while calling out for Ye Moxuan’s name, and so she giggled uncontrollably while asking her, “Qi, are you truly hopelessly in love with Young Master Ye?”
