“I don’t feel like answering his call.”
She felt that, in her current state, she had nothing to say to Ye Moxuan.
The phone stopped ringing for a while, but it started ringing again very soon.
Yan blinked several times before deciding on behalf of Shen Qi. “In any case, he might be planning to tell you something since he’s taking the initiative to reach out to you. Shouldn’t you at least give him a chance? You might have misunderstood him, and if you ignore him completely, aren’t you not giving him the chance to explain himself?”
Yan answered the phone call after announcing her decision, whereas Shen Qi dumbfoundedly stared at Yan, who answered the call while standing up abruptly.
“Young Master Ye, good day to you. I am Yan.”
Shen Qi stared at her in astonishment for a few moments before snapping back to her senses. Then, she got up abruptly and tried to snatch her phone back from Yan.
However, Yan ran straight out of the room, and Shen Qi didn’t even have the chance to hear what she was telling Ye Moxuan. Shen Qi could barely catch certain phrases, and by the time Yan got back into the room, she was already handing the phone back to Shen Qi.
“Just wait for a while. Young Master Ye will be here to pick you up.”
“You asked him to come over?” Shen Qi frowned at her, and she seemed to have thought of something as she turned around decisively to pick her bag up and dashed out of the room.
“Hey! What are you doing? Young Master Ye was the one who said that he wants to pick you up. He forced me to give him my address; what choice did I have?”
“I don’t want to meet him.”
“I told him you are injured, and he sounded very anxious. Qi, maybe you should give him a chance to explain himself.” Yan held onto Shen Qi’s shoulders while gazing into her eyes sternly.
Shen Qi met Yan’s gaze blankly, and words failed her for quite a while.
In the end, Shen Qi waited for about ten minutes in Yan’s house when someone rang the doorbell. Just when Yan went forward to open the door, Shen Qi, who was in the living room, heard Xiao Su’s voice. “I’m so sorry to bother you so late at night.”
After that, she heard the sound of a wheelchair rolling in, and Shen Qi could sense Ye Moxuan’s arrival even before she looked up.
She didn’t want to see Ye Moxuan, and so she sat still with her eyes lowered.
Her eyes were reddish since she cried earlier, and that was one of the reasons Shen Qi didn’t dare look up at Ye Moxuan.
“Where were you injured?” Ye Moxuan frowned deeply and couldn’t stop himself from asking her straight away the moment he entered the house because he saw her seated while having her eyes lowered.
Shen Qi remained tight-lipped, and she didn’t even look up at him.
Yan and Xiao Su both stayed at the entrance to give them the space they needed. Then, she turned to the side to glance at Xiao Su and shrugged helplessly.
Xiao Su admired Yan even more now. This young lady is extraordinarily perceptive! She is suited as Shen Qi’s best friend!
“I was asking you a question.”
When Shen Qi heard the anger resonating in the man’s cold voice, she realized with a start that Ye Moxuan had already arrived by her side.
Shen Qi was startled, and when she looked up, she gazed straight into his deep and dark eyes.
It was at that moment when Shen Qi realized that despite the fact that Ye Moxuan’s legs were both crippled and he was seated on a wheelchair, he was still a man after all. In fact, he was a tall and well-built man, and at that moment, he was gazing down at her with his eyes that were as dark as the night sky.
However, Ye Moxuan’s gaze changed swiftly when he realized that her eyes were rimmed-red, and he reached out to hold her chin steady. “Were you crying?”
As a man, he wasn’t aware of his strength, and Shen Qi cried out in pain when he pinched her chin. Ye Moxuan scowled and released his grip immediately, and he then reached out for her waist to pull her into his arms.
“Hey, what are you doing?” Shen Qi exclaimed in surprise because she was already in Ye Moxuan’s embrace before she could react.
When she recalled that Yan was observing her from the side, Shen Qi felt shy and angry, and so she tried pushing against Ye Moxuan to straighten up. However, he hugged her tightly with one hand while pushing his wheelchair forward with the other. “Come home with me.”
Yan and Xiao Su, who were both standing by the entrance, made way for them straight away when they saw Ye Moxuan rolling his wheelchair toward the door.
Shen Qi continued struggling, but she was nowhere as strong as Ye Moxuan, and so he took her away by force. Although he was on a wheelchair, it did not seem like a deterrent to him because he picked her up with ease.
Yan urged Xiao Su, “You had better catch up to them.”
“Thanks.” Xiao Su went after the two of them after thanking Yan.
Once they arrived at the Ye residence, Shen Qi got out of Ye Moxuan’s arms the moment they got out of the car while announcing that she was perfectly capable of walking, and she then left swiftly for their room upstairs. Ye Moxuan thought Shen Qi was in a strange mood today. Furthermore, her red-rimmed eyes earlier truly shook him to his core.
When he thought of the pair of dangle earrings he specifically chose for her today, Ye Moxuan reached into his pocket to take the small box out. He opened the box to look at the shining earrings.
Xiao Su pondered, but he finally plucked up his courage and approached Ye Moxuan. “Young Master Ye, Second Young Lady doesn’t seem to be in a good mood, so why don’t you—”
“Shut up,” scolded Ye Moxuan in an icy tone. “I know what I am doing.”
“But Young Master Ye… if you don’t make a move soon, I’m afraid that Second Young Lady will leave, and you will end up regretting it for the rest of your life.”
Ye Moxuan was rendered speechless by that.
“You can’t keep it a secret forever, and Second Young Lady will learn about the truth soon enough, for Han Xueyou is her best friend. Although Second Young Lady does not always voice her opinions, I’m sure that you understand her much better than I do, Young Master Ye. Hence, I doubt she would accept this.”
Ye Moxuan turned to shoot daggers at Xiao Su the moment he was done with his speech, and Xiao Su was so scared that his breath caught in his throat. He quickly turned around to avoid Ye Moxuan’s sharp gaze and acted as if he hadn’t said anything just now.
Ye Moxuan chased after Shen Qi and followed her into the room.
Once he entered the room, the two of them were now sharing a confined space. The room somehow felt cramped with Ye Moxuan’s sudden entrance, and his scent filled the space immediately. Shen Qi had her back facing him, and she tried her best to ignore him, but Ye Moxuan was not about to let her off the hook so easily. She soon heard his rumbling voice from behind.
“Where are your injuries? Can I have a look?”
His tone was especially gentle, and it felt as if he had done something wrong, and he was trying tentatively to coax her.
Shen Qi thought of the issue between Ye Moxuan and Han Xueyou, and she couldn’t stop her throbbing heartache; thus, she bit her lower lip firmly and refused to answer him.
Ye Moxuan went ahead to get some ointment, and he brought over a nightdress for her. “Take your clothes off first, and I’ll apply some medication for you. After that, you can change into this.”
He handed the nightdress to her, but Shen Qi kept quiet while remaining seated. She did not reach out to accept the nightdress, and instead, she remained silent and stationary.
Under normal circumstances, Ye Moxuan would have lost his temper after being ignored like this. However, Shen Qi had been acting odd lately, and it struck his heart when he saw her red-rimmed eyes while sitting right there. She looked like a bullied young wife, and it made his heart clench in pain.
Hence, Ye Moxuan placed the nightdress at her side while whispering, “Let’s apply the medication first, alright?”
She still ignored him.
Ye Moxuan recalled Xiao Su’s speech earlier, and after a moment of hesitation, he reached into his pocket and took a small box to hand it to her.
“This is for you. Please don’t be so stubborn now, okay?”
Shen Qi had her head bowed, and a small and intricate box appeared out of nowhere before her eyes. The make of the small box was rather familiar, and it was similar to the one she had seen before, but it was definitely a different box.
Shen Qi finally moved, and she gradually reached a hand out to accept the box.
