Shen Qi paused before she spoke. “You are overthinking.”
“How am I overthinking? Are you saying that I am wrong? He might treat you well, but you have to remember that you are married. Both males and females who are the third party in relationships are equally despicable.”
Shen Qi couldn’t help but glance at Yan when she heard that, and Yan met her gaze stubbornly. “What? Do you think that I’m wrong?”
Shen Qi smiled faintly while shaking her head. “No, I approve of your principles, and that’s what I believe too.”
Suddenly, she thought of something and asked Yan gingerly, “In that case… what if there’s no love between the husband and wife? And it turns out that the husband is in love with another woman? If those two are in love with each other, do you think that the wife should give them her blessing?”
“Whoa! Why should the wife give them her blessing? He is already married; is he trying to pull the act where true love conquers all? It is disgusting to claim that true love conquers all if that person is married. You can’t just justify this sort of action by claiming that the couple has no love for each other.”
Yan took her stand firmly, and soon after, she seemed to realize something because she turned around to stare at Shen Qi, and her gaze sent chills down her spine. “What are you doing?” Shen Qi asked reflexively.
Yan grabbed onto Shen Qi’s shoulders. “What did you mean by what you said just now? Giving your blessing? They are in love with each other? Are you talking about Young Master Ye and Han Xueyou?”
Since things had already progressed to this stage, Shen Qi didn’t bother denying it, and instead, she smiled faintly while nodding. “You are so smart, Yan.”
“Damn it!” Yan exclaimed furiously, and she started cursing. “Han Xueyou, that wench! I told you from the beginning that she doesn’t look like a decent person. You didn’t even believe me at that time, and you got so angry with me! Do you believe me now?”
Shen Qi was rendered speechless by her reaction. “Well, when it involves such things, you can’t just blame a single party. If one of them rejected the other, the two of them wouldn’t have ended up together.”
Yan asked Shen Qi, “In that case, have you confirmed that the two of them are already together?”
“I guess so,” Shen Qi answered after a pause.
“What do you mean by you guess so?” Yan asked incredulously. “Have you asked Ye Moxuan in person? Did he confess that he is not in love with you, and that he’s in love Han Xueyou?”
Shen Qi stammered in response. “O-Of course not!”
“In that case, what on earth did you mean when you said they are in love with each other? You’ve got to have got a few loose screws to come to that conclusion. Did you make that all up in your head?”
“But…” Shen Qi glanced at Yan and reiterated the incident with the stud earrings to her.
Regarding the incident of the pink stud earrings, Yan was most probably the most familiar with the actual situation. True enough, after listening to Shen Qi’s story, Yan was fuming, but she calmed down very quickly before she started analyzing the situation for Shen Qi.
“You mentioned that Han Xueyou was wearing that particular pair of pink stud earrings? And Young Master Ye has lost them?”
Shen Qi nodded earnestly.
“Is that why you think that Young Master Ye gave her that pair of pink stud earrings?”
“Isn’t that what happened?”
“Love makes people blind. Maybe Han Xueyou stole those earrings.”
Yan’s words were like a shocking reality check.
“H-How is that possible?” Shen Qi asked in disbelief.
“Don’t dismiss that possibility so quickly. I’ve interacted with her before; besides, I can tell from Young Master Ye’s gaze that he is in love with you. In fact, it reminds me of how my dad looks at my mom! Qi, unless Young Master Ye is the kind of jerk who likes two-timing his wife… I don’t think he would do something like that. Furthermore, you shouldn’t trust Han Xueyou ever again because she has lost the right to be your best friend, regardless of whether she stole the stud earrings or Young Master Ye gave them to her. If she truly saw you as her best friend, she would never have accepted those stud earrings. Do you understand me?”
Yan’s sudden revelation about the matter was like a thunderclap to Shen Qi.
Shen Qi stood rooted to the spot, and she felt as if she was drenched in a bucket of icy-cold water. She felt so chilly that she thought she might start shivering.
Shen Qi’s quivering pink lips were slightly apart, whereas her pearly whites were chattering softly, but she was at a loss for words.
She kept her head bowed, and her thick eyelashes shielded her eyes.
How… How could I possibly not understand that?
I understand that, and that is why I will never forgive Han Xueyou.
However, we have been best friends for so many years, and I’m just making excuses up for her to lessen the severity of her mistakes.
“I said what’s on your mind, didn’t I?” Yan observed Shen Qi’s fluttering eyelashes, and she softened her tone. “To be honest, you are a very righteous and loyal person. I was well aware of that ever since you took her side previously. I wouldn’t deny that she’s nice to you, but she is nice to you with a motive. That is why that sort of generosity and kindness is no longer considered being nice.”
“I’ve known Xueyou for a very long time, even before I got married to Ye Moxuan,” commented Shen Qi in a quiet tone. She stared at her fingertips while reminiscing the time when the both of them were still in university. “I didn’t expect her to—”
“Things have already happened; so what are your plans now? If you are in love with Young Master Ye, you should investigate this thoroughly to find out whether Han Xueyou stole those stud earrings or Young Master Ye personally gave them to her.”
Well…
Shen Qi suddenly flashed a faint smile. “It seems not that important.”
What is the difference between him personally giving the earrings to her and Han Xueyou stealing them from him?
He must have given her the opportunity, and that is why Xueyou managed to steal the earrings. Under what circumstance would she have had that sort of opportunity? He didn’t return home for two days and two nights… who knows what he was up to?
“What are you saying? I honestly can’t figure out what is going on in your mind!” Yan exclaimed in frustration while turning to face the window. She then burst out in anger suddenly. “If I were you, I would have made my way to Han Xueyou and interrogated her. No, I would’ve gone ahead and interrogated Ye Moxuan! Ask him what on earth is going on! He’s a married man, and if he has the audacity to cheat, I would make sure the both of them would wish they had never been born.”
When compared to Yan’s palpable fury, Shen Qi seemed especially calm and collected.
Yan felt slightly worn out after she was so worked up earlier, and she kept quiet straight away when she realized Shen Qi was leaning against the car seat while looking exhausted. After that, Yan led Shen Qi back to her home, disinfected her wounds, and attended to them. After her fresh wounds were treated, Yan urged her to go ahead and rest.
“It’s almost noon anyway. You should stay and have lunch at my place.”
Shen Qi looked up gratefully at Yan when she heard that. “Yan, thank you.”
Shen Qi held Yan’s gaze earnestly, and it made Yan slightly embarrassed. “I won’t be moved even if you thank me in this way. You should just rest well for now,” Yan remarked and pouted.
Then, Yan texted Ye Linhan after leaving the room to inform him that Shen Qi was doing just fine.
After that, she seemed to have thought of something as she sighed helplessly.
Shen Qi’s relationships with the Ye brothers are too complicated. As an outsider, I can clearly tell that Ye Linhan is harboring an unrequited love for Shen Qi, whereas she has no feelings for him at all, but he just wouldn’t give up.

Yan turned around to peek at her room when she thought of that and sighed heavily again.
Shen Qi stayed at Yan’s the entire day, and she was planning to stay the night, but Ye Moxuan phoned her unexpectedly at night.
Shen Qi did not want to answer his phone call at all when she saw his name across her phone’s display screen, and she placed her phone at the side.
Yan pounced at Shen Qi’s phone to pick it up, and she asked Shen Qi after glancing at the caller ID, “It’s Young Master Ye; aren’t you answering his call?”
