Yan’s smile stiffened when she heard Shen Qi’s confession. She stared at Shen Qi in embarrassment while muttering, “So… are you saying that you aren’t here to make up with me? In that case, my present…”
“I don’t know. If I hadn’t come over, I might not… have known that you’ve done so much for me. I’m sorry…”
Yan stood rooted to the spot, and she was in a daze. Her eyes turned red with tears as well, and she wiped them away roughly. She smiled self-deprecatingly before uttering, “How silly I was! From your point of view, I’m just the kind of person who bad-mouths others, right? Initially, I wasn’t kind to you; in fact, I was rather arrogant. However, I later realized that I misunderstood you, and so I thought I’d make it up to you by being a good friend, but now… it’s just wishful thinking, isn’t it?”
“No, it isn’t.” Shen Qi shook her head in disagreement. “You’ve been very nice to me, and I was narrow-minded in that incident. Let’s make up.”
Yan regarded her while looking hurt, but she remained tight-lipped.
Shen Qi suppressed the tears in her red-rimmed eyes before asking again, “Are you willing to be my friend again?”
Yan refused to speak for ages, and so Shen Qi had no choice but to lower her gaze as well. “Alright, then. If you are not willing, I will…”
“Shen Qi, what do you mean? I am the victim throughout the incident! You claim that you want to reconcile with me, so why aren’t you even trying to coax me? Were you planning to leave just because I didn’t answer you? Are you actually sincere in wanting to reconcile with me?”
Shen Qi stopped dead in her tracks before turning to face Yan.
Yan pouted, and her eyes were as red as a rabbit’s. “You have to treat me to lunch.”
Shen Qi nodded. “S-Sure.”
“You have to accompany me for some shopping after work to make up for your mistakes for the past few days.”
“Sure.”
Yan finally broke into a grin after Shen Qi agreed to her several requests.
Shen Qi felt rather helpless when faced with Yan. Yan is like a girl with a simple and naïve mind, and everything she asked for is just like requests from a child to an adult. She is a child at heart after all, and I’m sure she does not have any evil intent. In the future, I shall take whatever she says with a pinch of salt, Shen Qi thought in silence.
After the two of them reconciled, they started showing up in the company’s canteen together again. Yan was still the same—after less than several hours, she started gossiping with Shen Qi again. In fact, she started asking about matters involving Ye Moxuan and her.
“How are things with you and Young Master Ye? Did the presence of that woman affect your relationship?”
Shen Qi was scooping soup from her bowl, and after pondering a short while, she looked up at Yan suddenly. “Are you really interested in us?”
Yan nodded eagerly before replying, “Isn’t that a given? It’s my duty as a friend to be concerned about your happiness.”
“Alright. Then would you believe me if I told you right now that Young Master and I do not have feelings for each other?”
Yan was stumped for a few moments while blinking her large and captivating eyes several times. “In that case, why did the two of you get married? He is a cripple, and I thought that you were blindly in love with him, and that was why… you married him.”
Shen Qi frowned immediately at the mention of the word ‘cripple’. “Don’t use the word ‘cripple’ so casually.” Shen Qi corrected Yan.
Initially, Yan was astounded, but the corner of her lips twitched into a smile. “Didn’t you say that there aren’t any feelings involved? Why are you taking his side, then?” Yan glanced at Shen Qi when she said that. “Could it be possible that he doesn’t have feelings for you, but you are in love with him?”
Shen Qi kept quiet since Yan guessed correctly.
Shen Qi did not defend herself, and neither did she explain further. Instead, she met Yan’s gaze calmly. Hence, Yan understood the situation instantly, but she felt devastated too. “How is that possible? Are you really in love with Young Master Ye? But he has no feelings for you?”
“Keep your voice down,” reminded Shen Qi.
Yan regained her composure and nodded while lowering her voice.
“Then… what are you planning to do, since he isn’t in love with you? Aren’t you in a precarious position if he is not in love with you? Damn it, then Han Xueyou—”
“You shouldn’t bother yourself with this matter. Nobody can control their feelings; besides, he and I have a very complicated relationship. In any case, you shouldn’t bother yourself with these issues.”
Yan pursed her lips before muttering, “Alright, then. I’ll do as you say.”
After work, Shen Qi was planning to meet Yan after packing her things up because she promised to accompany her shopping. She had completely forgotten about Ye Moxuan’s request to head home together.
When Shen Qi and Yan arrived at the bus stop, a familiar car stopped in front of them.
The car window lowered, and a handsome but aloof face appeared behind it.
Yan’s eyes bulged in shock when she saw Ye Moxuan, who appeared right in front of her.
Ever since Yan became friends with Shen Qi, she had experienced countless things which seemed unreal. Previously, she met Vice President Ye in the mall, and he sent her home in person. There was also the time when she attended the annual dinner party, and she witnessed Ye Moxuan taking Shen Qi away. Right now, Ye Moxuan had once again appeared before her eyes.
“Didn’t I ask you to wait for me after work?” Ye Moxuan’s tone sounded icy, as if he was an emotionless person.
Shen Qi recalled his request previously back in his office with a start when she heard him. Her pink lips parted in embarrassment before she answered, “I… forgot about it.”
Ye Moxuan looked furious when he heard that. “You forgot??”
Shen Qi felt his intimidating aura, and she flinched instinctively. Yan, on the other hand, hid behind Shen Qi while peeking at Ye Moxuan.
Shen Qi realized that she was rather calm and steady while facing Ye Moxuan in comparison to other people.
At least I’m not acting like Yan.
Shen Qi inhaled deeply when she thought of that. “I promised Yan that I will accompany her for some shopping. So why don’t you… go home first?”
Ye Moxuan remained tightly while staring at her coldly.
Yan, who was hiding behind Shen Qi, squeaked timidly, “Why don’t you go home first, Shen Qi? Let’s hang out another day.”
Shen Qi scowled at her while thinking in silence, I promised Yan, but now…
However, Ye Moxuan broke the silence unexpectedly. “Where are you going?”
“Huh?”
“Get into the car. I’ll send the both of you there.”
Shen Qi was rendered speechless by his reaction.
Yan stared wide-eyed at him in surprise. “S-Send us to go shopping?” Yan tightened her grip around the corner of Shen Qi’s shirt. “Are you serious?”
Shen Qi thought that she must have heard wrongly, but it turned out that Yan shared the same thought. Shen Qi’s lips trembled while she uttered, “That can’t be…”
Xiao Su got out of the car straight away to open the car door for them. “Second Young Lady, this way, please.”
Shen Qi was still rooted to the spot out of surprise, but Yan was already shoving against her from behind while chirping smilingly, “In that case, thank you so much, Young Master Ye!”
With that, Yan made her way to the other side of the car and took her seat at the front passenger seat.
Xiao Su gave Yan a thumbs-up discreetly when he saw how clever she was.
This is the kind of positive vibes from a friend I’m talking about! She left the back seats purposely for Ye Moxuan and Shen Qi. I’d say that she’s at least a hundred times better than Han Xueyou.
“Where are you ladies headed to?”
“Well…” Yan started giving Xiao Su instructions of the location.
Shen Qi, who was sitting in the back passenger seat, heard the conversation of the two of them. Then, she turned to look at Ye Moxuan awkwardly before asking him, “A-Are you coming with us?”
