Shen Qi cast a glance at her without saying anything in reply.
“Did you hear me? I’m talking to you.”
Shen Qi flashed her a smile calmly when she heard her. “Do you think I can’t hear you when you’re shouting so loud?”
Gao Yun glared at her as she confronted, “In that case, why are you not responding to me?”
“Don’t you have something to tell me? Make it quick, I’m going home.”
Gao Yun’s anger hit the ceiling and she could not wait to tear her into pieces but she suppressed her fury when she thought of her plan.
“I’m wrong to have done those things to you before. I’m offering my apology to you.”
Shen Qi was stunned and she could not help but raise her brows and took a glimpse at Gao Yun. Gao Yun’s face which was laden with fury came in sight; the rage in her eyes was so intense that Shen Qi felt that she was going to pounce on her and beat her up any minute. With her lips curled upward, Shen Qi said, “Miss Gao, you brought hatred with you to apologize to me, which leads me to think that you’re bearing some deep grudges against me before you spoke.”
“You!”
“To be honest, I don’t care what motive you have in mind but I want to remind you that since we’re all ordinary employees, it will not do you any good to sabotage me. As for your apology, I think it’s not necessary since we don’t see eye to eye with each other.”
With that, Shen Qi turned around and walked away.
When she had left, Cui Minli immediately emerged from a dark corner where she was hiding. “Gao Yun, don’t be angry. Who does she think she is? How dare she refuse to accept your apology? Don’t worry. Even if she doesn’t trust us, we will still have ways to destroy her.”
Time flew and in the blink of an eye, it was already one day before the celebration of the anniversary.
Han Xueyou came to visit Shen Qi.
“I heard that your company is having a dinner to celebrate the anniversary of its founding. Can I go with you as your family?”
Shen Qi said, “There are no precedents for this situation but if you would like to attend, I could help you ask whether you’re allowed to do so.”
Han Xueyou wrapped her arms around her and gave her cheek a peck. “Qi, you’re the best.”
Shen Qi let out a chuckle too. “As long as you’re happy.”
Then, her movement paused for a short while at the thought of her brother, Han Qing.
Things had gotten rather awkward as they had never spoken to each other ever since they became friends on social media. Just as she was hesitating whether to reveal the matter to Han Xueyou, Han Xueyou dragged her to pick a dress.
In fact, Shen Qi planned to just dress casually that night to make herself unnoticeable in the crowd.
Having too many enemies in the company, she thought it best to stay low-profile during the dinner that night.
But she didn’t expect that Han Xueyou would pick a red dress for her.
“Isn’t this too eye-catching? It’s out.” Shen Qi rejected the dress directly.
Yet, Han Xueyou wrapped her arms around her waist and spoke softly, “What are you afraid of? You are Mrs. Ye, so what’s wrong with you being outstanding at the dinner? With your status, do you even have to worry about not being worth the limelight?”
“But… I really can’t.”
No one in the company knew she was Ye Moxuan’s wife.
Moreover, she and Ye Moxuan were about to get a divorce and therefore, she could not be counted as his wife too.
“It’s fine. If you’re only bothered by the price, I’ll buy it as a gift for you.” Han Xueyou shoved her into the fitting room and forced her to try the dress.
Shen Qi stood inside the fitting room with the red dress in her hands. With resignation, she removed her own clothes and put it on. As there was no mirror in there, after Shen Qi put it on, she had the feeling that the dress was exceptionally revealing and she was hesitant to come out until Han Xueyou started urging her. “How’s the dress, Qi? Come out and let me have a look.”
“Xueyou…”
Shen Qi opened the door to reveal a slit through which Han Xueyou squeezed herself in. She was shocked when she saw Shen Qi.
The dress in deep red brought out the radiance and attractiveness of her fair complexion, and the V-shape neckline accentuated her feminine beauty. What was more, as her eyes tended to look cold, she gave off an independent and out-of-the-world aura.
It made Han Xueyou think of the woman in the photo she came across at Han residence.
She was Madam Han, a woman who used to be in charge of the Han family.
A note of anxiety flickered in Han Xueyou’s eyes. If she let Shen Qi appear at the dinner in this dress, then…
“Xueyou, what’s wrong with you?” Shen Qi’s question pulled Han Xueyou back to reality. She was still slightly flustered when she met Shen Qi’s eyes and she shook her head as she explained, “N-Nothing. I’m just very impressed by how beautiful you look in this dress.”
Shen Qi lowered her head and lifted her hand to cover her chest area awkwardly as she commented, “I think this dress is way too revealing. Why don’t I get another one?”
“Why should you get another one? I think this is just fine.” Han Xueyou turned around and walked out of the fitting room. “I’m going to the cashier.”
Shen Qi wanted to stop her from going but she had already walked away.
By the time Shen Qi came out after changing into her own clothes, Han Xueyou had already paid for the two dresses.
“Qi, the dresses are ready. Let’s go.”
Shen Qi cast an uncertain glance at the shopper before going with her.
After they got into the car, Han Xueyou said, “In order to stop you from secretly returning the dress, I’ve decided to keep it with me for the time being. I will bring you the dress tomorrow afternoon when I visit you.”
Shen Qi said, “Xueyou…”
“Let’s go, I’m sending you home.”
Han Xueyou sent her back to the gate of the Ye residence and they happened to bump into Ye Moxuan who just returned from the office.
At the sight of Ye Moxuan, Han Xueyou’s eyes lit up before she waved at him. “Young Master Ye!”
Ye Moxuan kept his eyes straight ahead but his movement came to a halt as an idea suddenly hit him.
After a short while, he turned around and his gaze flickered past Shen Qi briefly before landing on Han Xueyou’s face. Then, he gave her a nod.
The smile on Han Xueyou’s face froze for a few seconds before it became even brighter.
“Young Master Ye, I sent Qi back home.”
“Okay.” Ye Moxuan voiced his acknowledgement.
He then thought of something and said suddenly, “It’s late so I’ll let Xiao Su give you a ride.”
“Huh? It’s not necessary! I can drive myself home.” Han Xueyou was overwhelmed by his favor.
After receiving Ye Moxuan’s instruction, Xiao Su took a step forward and offered, “Miss Han, just let me send you back.”
Only then did Han Xueyou hand the keys to him. “Thanks, Assistant Xiao.”
“No worries. Since Miss Han has sent Second Young Lady back home, as Young Master Ye’s assistant, it’s part of my job to give Miss Han a ride,” said Xiao Su with a smile after he took the keys over.
What he said made the expression on Han Xueyou change.
“Let’s go, Miss Han.”
After Xiao Su and Han Xueyou left, Shen Qi stood at the original spot as she watched the car going further and further away in a daze as the sound of wheelchair rolling was heard behind her. She turned around and found that Ye Moxuan was already heading toward the house in his wheelchair.
She thought of something before she sprinted to catch up to him.
“Why did you let Xiao Su give Xueyou a ride home out of the blue? What on earth are you trying to do?”
Without a word, Ye Moxuan continued his way ahead and behaved as though he had not heard her.
Anxiety got the better of Shen Qi as she bit her lower lip and kept up with him. “Say something. What on earth are you going to do to Xueyou?”
She had never seen him offering favors to other people. It was unusual for him to instruct Xiao Su to send Han Xueyou back home today.
With a large stride, Shen Qi put herself in front of Ye Moxuan.
“Did you do it on purpose to make me angry? Is it because I told you not to get too close to Xueyou, which is why you deliberately instructed Xiao Su to give her a ride home in my presence? Ye Moxuan, do you harbor such an intention?”
