It’s no big deal?
Tang Yuanyuan looked at the torrent of rain outside, then a strange thought entered her mind. The rain is so heavy; can we go home tonight? Naturally, she kept this thought to herself; she did not dare to voice it out.
The rain splashed in through the window. Thus, Yuchi Yishu stood in front of her and shielded her from the rain. Then, he closed the window and said lightly, “Let’s finish our dinner. The rain should stop by the time we finish eating.”
“Okay, sure.”
Alas, the rain had not stopped even after they finished their dinner, and the wind was blowing violently. The sudden onset of the storm left them scratching their heads. Then, both of them received phone calls from home at the same time.
She answered the call and immediately heard Mrs. Tang speaking, “Yuanyuan, the rain is pouring outside. How far away are you from home now?”
Tang Yuanyuan made some calculations. They went out quite far today. Moreover, the distance from the restaurant they were at to home was approximately an hour’s drive by car. One hour by car…
“If it’s too far away, you don’t need to come home tonight. Just find a hotel to stay the night.”
She blushed. “Mom!”
“What’s the matter? I didn’t mean anything else. Didn’t I tell you before that I trust Yishu? I trust his character. Even if the two of you stayed out overnight, I’m sure he would book two separate rooms. Do you believe me?”
She believed in that; Yishu had a good character after all. Still…
Mulling over it, she turned her head and glanced at Yuchi Yishu, who was leaning against the window and talking on the phone. Then, she whispered, “We’ll see how things go in a bit. Maybe the rain will have stopped by then.”
This downpour lasted for several hours. It was a mix of wind, rain, thunder, and lightning. After dinner, both of them sat in the private room, waiting for the rain to stop. As a result, she got tired while waiting. She sat on the chair and supported her chin, feeling a little sleepy and lethargic.
“Are you sleepy?” Yuchi Yishu’s voice rang out, and Tang Yuanyuan snapped awake in surprise.
Sitting upright and straightening her back, she did her best to look slightly more energetic; she shook her head. “I’m fine, Yishu. I was just feeling a little sleepy. I’m okay now.” Then, she slapped her cheeks lightly and got up. “I’ll go and wash my face.”
He patted the chair beside him, beckoning at her. “If you’re sleepy, come over here.”
“Yishu?”
“I’ll lend you my shoulder to sleep on.”
She blinked her eyes. Even so, she did not refuse his offer. Walking over to the chair beside him, she sat down and leaned against his shoulder. Then, she closed her eyes and finally felt more comfortable.
“Wait a little more; the rain will stop soon.”
“Yishu, will the roads be flooded from the heavy rain?”
“Yeah, it will.”
As she was leaning against his shoulder, she could feel the vibrations from his chest when he spoke.
“It rained too much today. I probably won’t be able to send you home tonight.”
Tang Yuanyuan said nothing to that. The private room was filled with silence for a while, then Yuchi Yishu’s voice rang out again. “Did you bring your identity card?”
She replied, “No…”
The dress she wore today was not suitable for carrying anything at all. Except for her phone, she had nothing else with her.
“What a klutz.” He gave an exasperated sigh. “Thank goodness I brought mine. I’ll check if there are any hotels nearby.
Afterward, he took out his phone and checked the surrounding area. He found a five-star hotel located not far from the restaurant. It looked well-regulated and clean. That shouldn’t be too bad, he thought. The only problem was that a well-regulated hotel would only allow for one room per identity card. Ruminating over it, he glanced at the round head of the little girl but said nothing.
After a while, the rain stopped. Thus, Tang Yuanyuan was surprised. “Yishu, the rain stopped! How did you know?”
Yuchi Yishu pursed his thin lips. Truthfully, he had only said those words on a whim. By saying that it would stop soon, it made the waiting less unbearable and tedious. Thus, he tapped his knuckles against her head, saying, “Why don’t you take a guess?”
She held her head in her hands and snorted lightly, saying nothing.
“Let’s go to the hotel.”
Their car was parked in the underground garage. Hearing that the place was temporarily flooded, he guessed that there was no way to retrieve the car at the present moment. Therefore, he decided against going there. Instead, he brought her downstairs and prepared to walk over to the hotel nearby.
Downstairs, the water had risen to their calves. As she was wearing high heels today, her expression twisted slightly when she saw the water level. “Ah! Why is the water level so high?”
“This area is slightly lower than its surroundings. Besides, the drainage system is poor, so it’s quite normal to flood in this area.” Following that, Yuchi Yishu bent down in front of Tang Yuanyuan. “Get on.”
Tang Yuanyuan stared at his back for a moment and did not move.
“What’s the matter?” Yuchi Yishu waited for a short while. When he saw that she wasn’t climbing on, he stood back up and looked at her. Then, he saw the young lady pulling at her skirt awkwardly. He mulled over it for a bit, then took off his coat and put it on for her.
He actually put it on for her; he did not just drape it around her shoulders. The sleeves of his coat, when worn on her, were long enough that she could dance the long-sleeved dance—a Chinese traditional dance. Thus, she waved the sleeves about in a little dance in front of him and looked adorable.
“Can you get on now?”
She nodded in response. Then, she prepared to climb onto his back. Out of the corner of his eye, he seemed to notice something and straightened up abruptly; his expression changed slightly as he placed his hand on her shoulder.
“What’s wrong, Yishu?”
The words had just left her mouth when she felt him bending down in front of her. Then, he picked her up in a princess carry. The sudden princess carry came as a shock to her, and she was caught off guard. Although she was stunned and her head was still reeling in surprise, her hands subconsciously wrapped around his neck to stop herself from falling.
After picking her up, Yuchi Yishu said in a low voice, “Pull your dress down.”
“Oh, okay.” Tang Yuanyuan followed his instructions in a daze and hurriedly adjusted her dress. After she was done with that, she finally realized something and turned her head to look around her.
It so happened that several guys were standing to the side. When her gaze landed on them, they hastily looked away. Thus, she suddenly understood why Yishu had picked her up out of the blue.
Still, she felt embarrassed. Leaning against him, she said, “Yishu, why don’t I… walk by myself? It should be fine if I hold my skirt up while we walk.”
“No.” He shook his head with a stern expression. “The water here is too dirty.”
My young lady should be kept neat and tidy.
“But, it’s very tiring to carry me like this.”
Yuchi Yishu let out a low laugh at her words, then said, “You’ve already slimmed down so much. Why don’t you have more confidence in your weight? Besides, I had no trouble carrying you back when you were heavier anyway.”
That makes sense. Tang Yuanyuan blinked. Even when I was at my heaviest, Yishu could carry me. At that time, he didn’t complain about being tired either. What’s more, I’ve lost so much weight compared to then! I can’t continue lacking self-confidence like before.
