She subconsciously stopped him.
“Yishu, didn’t you say the blue one was Chufeng’s?”
He stopped what he was doing momentarily and replied, “Yes.”
In the end, he still did not change and continued to tear open the purple gift box. Pursing her small lips, Tang Yuanyuan raised her head and glanced at him.
After a while, she took another glance at him.
Calmly, he said, “I already tore it. Do you want me to stop and change halfway? We’ll open this one first, then open Chufeng’s gift next.”
She did not respond and just blinked her eyes. A small suspicion grew in her mind. I feel like Yishu might be jealous. Why would he open his own gift right after I said I wanted to open Chufeng’s gift first?
Tsk. If he’s jealous, he could have just opened it without asking me.
Ugh. She shook her head lightly; she was unable to understand him.
As he opened the gift, he studied her expression. “What’s wrong? Are you not happy with opening my gift first?”
She shook her head immediately.
“No, Yishu. I’m fine with opening anyone’s gift first.”
On the surface, it looked like she did not mind but she actually wanted to open his gift at the end. I wanted to save the best for last.
Who would have thought that he would go and open his own gift first?
Yuchi Yishu quickly finished opening it.
“Oh, it’s so beautiful!”
Tang Yuanyuan reached out cautiously to retrieve the gift.
“Did you make this yourself, Yishu?”
It was a miniature cottage garden. He remembered that when she was little, she often sent things like these to her friends. She always admired how well they made their houses, but those that were sold online were mostly for dexterous people. She liked to look, but she never wanted to buy them.
Thus, he did some research and purchased one.
“Yes.” He nodded at her warmly. Seeing how much she liked it made him feel content.
“How long did it take you, Yishu?”
“Not that long. Probably a few nights.”
A few nights…
She immediately looked at him and stared at his face to see if he had any dark circles.
How could he not guess her intentions?
He chuckled. “It wasn’t these past few nights. Do you think I can do all of this so last minute?”
That seems about right. With his personality, he had never made any last-minute decisions before. Even if it was last minute, it would not have been an ordeal considering his brainpower and dexterous ability.
“Happy coming-of-age day.” He caressed her head lightly. “Do you like it?”
“I do! Of course, I do!” She was a bit reluctant to let it go and wanted to keep looking at it. Nonetheless, they were outside at the moment and she feared that she would drop it and let all his efforts go to waste. “Yishu, how should we put it back in the box later? Or should we put it in the backseat? What if it gets ruined?”
“If it’s ruined, I’ll just make another one for you.”
“No.” She shook her head. “This is your coming-of-age gift to me. I can’t ruin it.”
“Can’t I just make another one for you?”
“It won’t be the same anymore.”
At first, she was a bit disappointed that he had only given her one gift since she assumed that a birthday gift and a coming-of-age gift were two separate things. After thinking about it, however, she figured they were both on the same day despite being called different names. One gift was more than enough.
She was still very happy.
“Put it back then and place it in the backseat later. We’ll put it up again when we get home.”
“Okay.”
Tang Yuanyuan kept the gift. She was going to open the gifts from Zhong Chufeng and the other two roommates, but Yuchi Yishu abruptly grabbed her wrist and pulled her to the side as he closed the trunk of the car.
“That’s enough. We can open the rest at home tonight. We’re going into the amusement park now.”
“But didn’t you say we were going to open gifts?”
She was completely puzzled by his behavior. First, he asks me whose gift I want to open first, then ends up opening his own gift, even after I tell him I want to open Chufeng’s gift.
Now, he’s not even letting me open Chufeng’s gift.
Earlier, he claimed that he tore it by mistake. I didn’t have any doubts about it because I thought he really tore it by mistake.
But looking back now, it doesn’t seem that simple anymore.
Those were all just her thoughts as she did not dare to voice them out. Alas, she just followed him into the amusement park.
Because of the thoughtful gift she received, the sullen feelings she felt were mostly gone now.
Nonetheless, she still felt slightly resistant.
Yuchi Yishu felt it but looked indifferent as he continued to drag her inside.
“What do you want to play? I’ll keep you company all day today. We’ll go home once you’ve had enough.”
What do I want to play? she thought. Anything is fine as long as it’s not the Ferris wheel I sat on last time.
“How about the merry-go-round? Little girls like that.”
With that, he went to buy the tickets.
She wanted to say that she was not a little girl anymore but he had already gone to get the tickets. When he returned, she saw that he had only one ticket.
“Why did you only buy one ticket, Yishu?”
“Do I have to follow you in there? It’s for kids.” He rubbed the back of her neck. “Let’s go.”
“But…” Tang Yuanyuan grabbed his arm and mumbled, “Yishu, I’m an adult as of today. I’m not a kid anymore.”
He smiled. “Just take it as your last time being a kid after entering adulthood.”
Last time as a kid after entering adulthood?
“Also, you’ll always be a kid to me. You’ll never grow up.”
Everyone aged. Tang Yuanyuan becoming an adult meant that Yuchi Yishu was also growing older. Therefore, it was not wrong that he saw her as a kid.
At first, it sounded like he was spoiling her. With a blushed face, she took the ticket and went to line up. When she got on the merry-go-round, she realized that there were a lot of little children playing around her and decided to join along.
She felt a bit awkward but also thought of what Yuchi Yishu said to her: ‘You’ll always be a kid to me. You’ll never grow up.’
Thinking about it now, it did not feel quite right somehow.
He made her a promise last time which made her so eager to become an adult. But judging by what he meant by that, was he going back on his words now?
Tang Yuanyuan started to panic and wanted to get off the merry-go-around immediately, but it was still moving so she had to wait.
Once the merry-go-round came to a stop, she got off and ran straight to Yuchi Yishu, then asked as she huffed and puffed, “Yishu, what did you mean by what you said earlier?”
