In the middle of the night, Shen Qi lifted her blanket and got out of bed. She walked out of the bedroom barefooted and went to the study, in search of both the agreement and the bank card which Ye Moxuan had thrown into the dustbin. When she got them back, she could not hold back her tears.
What a jerk Ye Moxuan was.
Those things which she retrieved were thrown away by him without a second glance.
It was as if he had never cared about these things at all back when he gave them to her.
As those things did not belong to her in the first place, she was fine to give up on them.
However, she still could not help feeling upset at the sight of how cold-hearted he looked.
Her depressing sobs could be heard coming from the dark study.
It was only after some time did she wipe away her tears and take the agreement and bank card back to her bedroom. She fell asleep and pretended as if nothing had happened at all.
On the next day, she made time to visit Ms. Jing at the mall.
“Ms. Jing, how much is the mall worth approximately?”
Ms. Jing squinted at her. “Why are you asking about this all of a sudden?”
“I just feel like getting to know the worth of this mall. Could you tell me please?”
“It’s a huge mall and you have already seen that its monthly profit is tens of millions. Mind you, that’s only what we earn in the off season. How much do you think it’s worth?”
She was right. The worth of the mall was beyond her estimation.
It seemed like she would not be able to purchase it outright for the time being. She bit her lips as she tried to come up with other solutions.
Yet, Ms. Jing’s guess of her intention was spot on. “Are you thinking of buying the mall?”
When Shen Qi heard her, the smile on her face turned slightly awkward. “It’s funny, right? I don’t even know why I thought of it. It’s impossible.”
“It’s not,” Ms. Jing said with a faint smile. “In any case, it shows that you’re an opinionated girl who doesn’t want to rely on Moxuan for your success. You have my support.”
Shen Qi’s eyes, which at first looked gloomy, lit up at once as she looked up at Ms. Jing with elation.
“Do you really support my idea? Yet… as you said, the worth of this mall is beyond estimation. I can’t afford it at all.”
“In my opinion, you don’t have to purchase it at all, you foolish girl. You may return a certain percentage of future profits to Ye Moxuan and take a cut for yourself. Do you think managing a mall is easy? Your effort in managing it has to be remunerated and at the same time, Ye Moxuan would not suffer a loss too.”
At that moment, Ms. Jing could only let out a sigh secretly.
She had no idea of the status of Ye Moxuan and Shen Qi’s relationship. It was apparent that Shen Qi felt restless after taking his asset and she was keen to settle her debt with him. If that was true, it would be disastrous for Ye Moxuan.
Not having the chance to meet Ye Moxuan lately, she did not have a clear idea of the situation.
“Really?” Shen Qi appeared doubtful.
“Of course, but that will only work if you are able to increase the profits of the mall. Please try to come up with some ways.”
Suddenly, Shen Qi was motivated as she nodded. “I will!”
Then, she signed the paysheets before returning to the company to continue her work. During lunch hours and breaks, she would spend her time learning about business management. She also specially bought a lot of books related to business management from bookstores.
Other than working and resting, she spent all her time studying.
There was already no going back for her.
With the motivation to increase her knowledge, Shen Qi found that she was left with lesser time for random thoughts. Prior to this, she would always find herself grappling with what happened with Ye Linhan and her relationship with Ye Moxuan.
Yet, when she had something of a higher importance to do, she discovered that these issues were relatively uncritical.
It was only when she was free or in the middle of the night would she think of those issues.
However… she still had no idea how to solve them. She could only allow time to pass by and do nothing at the moment.
As for Han Xueyou, she behaved as though she had really done something bad as she kept showering her with gifts. Within the span of over a week, Shen Qi had already received four gifts from her.
Today, Han Xueyou once again sent her something at the entrance of the office tower. Shen Qi finally could not contain her curiosity and asked, “Xueyou, what’s gone into you lately that you’re showering me with gifts?”
Han Xueyou waved her hands awkwardly when she heard her. “Haven’t I already explained it to you? I merely bought you a share when I bought the same thing. Look, I have one too. We have been besties for a long time and isn’t it marvelous that we’re using the same stuff?”
“There’s nothing bad about it but all these stuff are simply too expensive. You don’t have to buy my share every time; please don’t buy anything for me in the future.”
Thereafter, Han Xueyou remained wordless. After a brief silence, Shen Qi asked, “Xueyou, are you feeling guilty?”
What she said made Han Xueyou behave like a frightened bird as she lifted her head to look at her and said in an apprehensive tone, “Tsk. Qi, why would you have such a thought?”
“If you didn’t feel that way, why are you sending me gifts so frequently? In fact…” She paused before continuing. “If what troubles you is that matter, you don’t have to feel guilty about it at all. How things have unfolded in the end was beyond our expectation.”
Before she began the investigation, Shen Qi had never thought that the man would be Ye Linhan.
In fact, she was still not convinced up until now.
Han Xueyou looked up at her.
“Qi, do you not trust me?”
Shen Qi paused for a while before shaking her head. “I trust you, but… I can’t accept it.”
Han Xueyou stared intently at her. “In that case… are you in love with Ye Moxuan?”
Am I in love with him? Am I? Prior to this, Shen Qi would answer her firmly in the negative.
But right now… she did not have a sure idea herself.
At such thought, Shen Qi said with a faint smile, “I’m not.”
Han Xueyou’s eyes turned somewhat gloomier. “Qi, you’ve changed.”
“I’ve changed?”
“I’ve asked you the same question before but back then, you were able to answer in a very firm way, unlike how you hesitated before answering just now.”
Shen Qi asked, “Is that so?”
Even she herself was not aware of this as well as forgotten about it.
Han Xueyou lowered her gaze as she became dispirited for some reason. After a brief moment, her vision landed on Shen Qi’s belly.
“In that case, I suppose you’re not planning to tell Ye Linhan about this?”
Shen Qi did not notice the change in Han Xueyou’s mood as her mind was in a turmoil too.
“I’m not sure for the time being, but… I think there’s no way he would be able to accept it. What’s more, if that matter was exposed, it would definitely be considered a scandal to the Ye family!”
“So what?” Han Xueyou suddenly got agitated as she snapped. “As much of a scandal it might be, he is still the man who spent that night with you, and he is the father of your baby! Don’t you want your baby to have his or her father? Or is it because you’re in love with Ye Moxuan and you would rather have him, who is supposed to be the baby’s uncle, to be the father?”
What she said affected Shen Qi greatly.
She stared at Han Xueyou dazedly and felt as if Han Xueyou had just hit her head with a baseball bat.
She was right. How could she make Ye Moxuan the father of her baby?
