Alas, Meng Kefei spilled out the words in her heart as her voice choked slightly. Of course, I’m in pain. I was beaten up so badly I couldn’t even stand up the other day. It’s the kind of pain that hurts with every single step I take.
Unfortunately, she wasn’t the kind of girl who was pampered from a young age. Otherwise, she would not have dragged it out until now. Ever since she was a child, no matter how sick she was or what injuries she had, she had to endure it until it passed. However, she had taken the pain of her injuries too lightly this time around. Even she had not expected that there would be a day where she would collapse.
Following her confession, she couldn’t stop her tears from flowing. However, she quickly noticed that she had lost her composure. Thus, she turned her head to the side and reached up to wipe her tears away. “I’m sorry.”
If Yuanyuan’s brother sees me like this, he must think I’m being very dramatic, right? I can’t continue to cry. Besides, there’s nothing to cry about.
The doctor sighed. “I’m glad you know it hurts. The next time you find yourself in a similar situation, make sure to come to the hospital earlier. Young lady, you need to see a doctor whenever you get sick or injured. It’s not good to endure it all by yourself. Putting aside the fact that you might not get better, it could also aggravate your condition.”
“I’m sorry, doctor. I’ve troubled you. It was my mistake; I won’t do it again.”
“Now, I would like everybody to leave the room, please. I need to examine her again.”
After that, Meng Kefei underwent a series of tests. Tang Yuanyuan finally felt relieved when all the tests confirmed that there were no other issues.
“Fei, I’ve thought about it. I still think we need to report this to the police.”
As soon as Meng Kefei heard ‘report it to the police’, her expression changed. “Don’t report it to the police. I’m fine. Besides, even if we report it now, the police wouldn’t be able to apprehend those people anymore.”
“What if they can? Those people have crossed the line when they beat you up so badly!” Then, Tang Yuanyuan lifted her head to look at Yuchi Yishu, who was standing next to her. “Yishu?”
Meng Kefei did not know what was going on inside Yuchi Yishu’s head, but she did not want to file a police report. Since she had already been hospitalized and the matter was already in the past, she was sure that Zhang Xiaolu and the rest wouldn’t do something like this again. “Yuanyuan, don’t report this to the police. And, don’t tell the teachers either. I’m fine now. I just want to rest peacefully. If I report this to the police or the teachers, they will come and question me about it. I don’t want that; I just want to get some rest and go to the library.”
These words sounded reasonable; she only wanted to rest without being disturbed. Thus, Yuchi Yishu placed his hand on Tang Yuanyuan’s shoulder and said in a low voice, “Since she has already said so, you shouldn’t keep pressing her to do so anymore. If she doesn’t want to report it to the police or the teachers, then so be it. She has learned her lesson. There won’t be a second time.”
Then, as his gaze flicked across Meng Kefei’s face, she felt a chill run down her spine and subconsciously bit down on her lower lip. Why does it feel like he has seen through my inner thoughts?
She couldn’t help but raise her head, accidentally meeting his gaze as she did so. Subsequently, her ears started to burn and she could only shift her gaze away nervously.
Meng Kefei’s injuries were not too serious. Thus, she was only hospitalized until the weekend was over and she was allowed to return to the school with some medicine the doctor prescribed for her. When she left the hospital, Tang Yuanyuan, Yuchi Yishu, and Zhong Chufeng came to pick her up.
As it wasn’t easy for Meng Kefei to walk, Zhong Chufeng decided to carry her on his back and asked Yuchi Yishu to bring the car around with Tang Yuanyuan. Then, he lowered his voice to question Meng Kefei, “Tell me honestly; who beat you up?”
It was Meng Kefei’s first time being piggybacked by a guy, so she was feeling embarrassed about it. Therefore, she did not answer the question immediately when she heard it.
“I’m not Yuanyuan; I’m not as gullible as she is. Did you really think Yishu and I would believe your stupid nonsense about getting beaten up by thugs at the school gate?”
Yuchi Yishu? She faltered. “He doesn’t believe me either?”
“Yishu is way smarter than I am. I don’t even believe it; do you think he would believe it? The only reason he agreed not to report it to the police is that he respects your decisions.” Then, he let out a helpless sigh. “Only a dummy like Yuanyuan would fall for your lousy excuse.”
Really, what a fool she is. But, why is it that I like this fool so much? Sigh.
“I don’t want to tell you.” She shook her head. With his temper, the whole campus would know about it by tomorrow if she told him the truth.
“You brat; do you not trust me? Are you afraid I’ll blab about it?”
“No, that’s not it,” she said very softly. “Since we’ve decided to leave things be, why should I talk about it? So, please stop asking me about it.”
“Fine. I’m just curious as to who would be so vicious. I can’t imagine what you are hiding up your sleeve.”
“Let’s go.” Meng Kefei was very embarrassed to be carried on his back. After all, men and women should observe propriety with the opposite sex.
“What are you being shy about? I don’t feel a thing carrying you on my back. So, you shouldn’t overthink it.”
“Zhong Chufeng, who said I’m overthinking it? I’m just not used to being in this position, Besides, don’t you have feelings for Yuanyuan? Why don’t you put me down and let me walk by myself? We should prevent any misunderstandings from occurring should Yuanyuan witness this scene.”
“Tsk. Who would that silly girl misunderstand? Based on her IQ level, I will burn incense and pray to the gods if she figures out what love and relationships are by the time she enters university.”
When she heard what Zhong Chufeng said, she felt like sighing too. I need to work diligently and get into a good university. Otherwise, I will be left in the dust for the rest of my life. In the past, she couldn’t care less about it. However, now that she had somebody she wanted to get closer to, everything was no longer the same.
After returning to the school, Tang Yuanyuan stopped hanging out with Zhang Xiaolu and the rest. Instead, she followed Meng Kefei wherever she went—they were inseparable. If Meng Kefei spent the afternoon in the library, she would sleep next to her for the entire afternoon.
In truth, she wanted to study too. However, the moment she started reading, she became sleepy. Then, she would end up falling asleep with her head on the table. In the beginning, Meng Kefei would try to wake her up. Later on, she noticed that there was no point in waking her. Thus, she left Tang Yuanyuan to sleep and only woke her up to return to the dormitory together after she finished her study session.
For that reason, Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan were very unhappy. When they asked Tang Yuanyuan why she didn’t join them for fun anymore, Tang Yuanyuan replied in complete faith, “Fei wants to study in the library. I want to study hard too. Do you want to study as well? If you want to study together, you can join us.”
Initially, Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan suspected that the girl had revealed something to Tang Yuanyuan. However, Tang Yuanyuan looked delighted at the end of her sentence and did not seem to be treating them any differently. Thus, they finally believed that Meng Kefei had not dared to say anything in front of Tang Yuanyuan.
“No, thanks. We have to practice our dancing, so we can’t accompany you to the library. Don’t work too hard and remember to take a break. If we get the chance, let’s go out and have a barbeque together again.”
“Sure! The next time we get the chance to go for a barbeque again, I will definitely ask you to join us!”
Meng Kefei, who was standing by the side, felt very uncomfortable watching Tang Yuanyuan acting so friendly with those two.
