“My brother?” Tang Yuanyuan’s eyes sparkled when she heard that her brother was here for her. “Is he at the school gate?”
“Yeah. He said he will wait for you at the main entrance and specified that you don’t have to rush there. You can take your time.”
“Alright, thank you very much.”
“No worries.”
After that, Tang Yuanyuan returned to the bedside and told Meng Kefei, “Fei, my brother is here. I’ll ask him to take you to the doctor. You can’t continue like this.”
Two red spots appeared on Meng Kefei’s pale face when she heard Tang Yuanyuan say that she would ask her brother to bring her to see a doctor. “No. There’s no need for that. I won’t go.”
My body is covered in injuries. If I see a doctor, it would be found out immediately! How am I supposed to explain that? Should I be honest about it? What would happen to my mother’s job at the textile factory if I said anything? I don’t dare to take that chance. I don’t dare to at all.
“Fei, stop overthinking it. Your condition right now is quite severe. Wait here for me; I’m going to my brother. I’ll be back soon.” Then, Tang Yuanyuan ignored Meng Kefei’s refusal and ran out of the dormitory.
Meng Kefei sat up in a hurry. However, her hurried movements agitated her injuries; her stomach throbbed suddenly with intense spikes of pain. Due to that, she broke out in a cold sweat. She didn’t know whether the kicks to her stomach had been too forceful, but her stomach had been in constant pain for the past few days. Sometimes, it hurt so much that she would break out in a cold sweat. The pain was so bad that she could barely stop herself from rolling on the floor in agony.
Even so, she refused to follow them to the hospital. Thus, she could only endure the pain as she got up and put on her shoes. She wanted to leave the dormitory and hide someplace for the time being. Unfortunately, she couldn’t even make it to the door before her vision turned black. In the next moment, she fainted and slumped to the ground; she was unconscious.
At the school gate, Zhong Chufeng stood leaning against the wall with one hand holding a large bag of snacks and the other stuck in his pocket. The weather was good today, and his mood was bright too. He seemed to have thought about something and the corners of his lips curved upward. After a while, he heard a rush of footsteps coming his way and guessed that Tang Yuanyuan had arrived.
“Yishu!” Tang Yuanyuan hastily ran over to him. When she saw that Zhong Chufeng was alone, the light in her eyes dimmed considerably. “Why are you here alone, Chufeng?” Didn’t that person say my brother is looking for me?
He watched as the light in her eyes vanished, feeling his heart viciously twisting in pain. “You’re making me sad, Yuanyuan. Didn’t I tell you before that your brother is very busy? So, only I can make it here to visit you.” Then, he handed the bag of snacks to her. “Look; I brought you a lot of tasty snacks.”
Sure enough, her eyes brightened again when she saw the food. However, she soon remembered something. “By the way, you came at just the right time, Chufeng. Fei isn’t feeling well. I wanted to bring her to the hospital to get her checked out by a doctor, but she refuses to go.”
“Meng Kefei?”
“Yeah.”
“What’s wrong with her?”
“She has been resting in bed for the past few days, but her complexion isn’t getting any better. Besides, she’s been eating very little. I don’t think it’s good to be like that,” she said as she tugged at his hand. “Chufeng, can you help me persuade her?”
“Let’s go.” Zhong Chufeng quickly followed after Tang Yuanyuan and entered the school.
As it was a female dormitory, males were not allowed into the premises. Thus, Tang Yuanyuan had to inform the dormitory caretaker that Meng Kefei was feeling unwell. She also mentioned that Zhong Chufeng was her brother, and he was here to bring Meng Kefei to the hospital. Only then did the dormitory caretaker agree to let him in. Even so, she followed them upstairs out of worry.
Soon, they reached the dormitory room. As soon as the door was pushed open, they found Meng Kefei unconscious on the floor. “Fei!”
The dormitory caretaker was shocked for a moment by the sight that greeted them. “Oh dear, why did she faint? Hurry up and take her to the hospital!”
Zhong Chufeng had a tall and slim build; he also had great strength. He immediately put the bag of snacks down, then crouched down to hold the unconscious Meng Kefei by the waist, and picked her up.
Afterward, they hurriedly rushed outside. Tang Yuanyuan was so anxious that she began to cry. Her tears fell uncontrollably, but she didn’t dare to make a sound and could only wipe at her tears as she followed beside them.
When they reached the hospital, Meng Kefei was sent to the emergency room. By then, Tang Yuanyuan’s eyes were completely red from crying. At the same time, Zhong Chufeng was exhausted. Turning his head to look at the young lady, he found that her eyes were as red as a rabbit’s from all that crying. At that moment, he felt as if his heart was stabbed by a needle. Then, he took out a tissue from his pocket, bent down, and wiped her tears for her. “Yuanyuan, don’t cry. We’ve reached the hospital. The doctors will save her.”
Despite his attempt at comforting her, she couldn’t stem the flow of her tears at that moment. Thus, her pea-sized tears fell pitter-patter onto his hand.
F*ck! Zhong Chufeng felt as if his heart was about to shatter to pieces. Crouching before Tang Yuanyuan, he pleaded, “Your Majesty! I’m going to call you Your Majesty, alright? Don’t cry anymore. If you continued to cry…” My heart is going to break into little pieces. However, he did not say these words to her face.
“Chufeng. Sob, sob… Fei…”
“She’ll be fine. The doctors will save her. Let’s wait here until she comes out, okay?” Then, he held her hand and led her to a chair nearby. “I will accompany you while we wait here.”
Both of them could only wait outside the emergency room. Unfortunately, Tang Yuanyuan didn’t know why but she couldn’t stop crying. “It’s all my fault. Before this, she told me she wasn’t feeling well. I should have brought her to the hospital then. If I did, Fei wouldn’t have fainted.”
“It’s not your fault. Fortunately, we are here now; we still made it in time.”
For some reason, she wanted to see Yuchi Yishu. Thus, she stretched out her hand and tugged at his sleeve, looking at him pitifully. “Chufeng.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Is my brother very busy?”
When he heard that, he paused, immediately catching on to the meaning behind her words. “Do you want him to come over?”
“I-Is that okay?” she asked while sobbing.
“Of course, it’s okay.” There was no way for him to reject her request in the face of her crying expression. “Wait here for a moment; I’ll give your brother a call.”
“Okay!”
After that, he walked out with his phone. Then, she closed her eyes and buried her face in her knees. Not long after, he came back.
“Chufeng?”
Zhong Chufeng made an awkward expression. “Um, your brother… didn’t answer his phone.”
“What?”
“Maybe he didn’t hear it because his phone is on silent. But, I’ve sent him a message. He’ll rush over the moment he reads the message.”
The last ray of hope died in Tang Yuanyuan’s eyes. She said nothing more as she leaned against her knees and fell deep into her thoughts. Yishu must be really busy; many girls like him and are trying to court him after all. He has no time to care about me. As the thought crossed her mind, her heart clenched so hard she could barely breathe. Unfortunately, she did not know the reason why that happened.
