No! Of course not! Yan was sure about that deep down. I was worried sick for Han Qing when he came to my rescue, let alone allowing him to rescue another lady in danger. Upon hearing Han Muzi’s words, Yan was overwhelmed even more by guilt, for she only came to know about all the things that had happened when she was unconscious. The girl whom I saw at Xiao Su’s place looks pretty and outgoing. They even looked like a perfect match when they stood side by side. However, what if I was the reason they fell out with each other, or the reason that caused anything bad to happen to them? What should I do?
“Just take it easy.” While Yan’s imagination was running wild, Han Muzi held her hand and said, “Well, we reap what we sow, and we can never get away with karma. Xiao Su used to like you, which was no secret among us all. He was deeply in love with you, so his first reaction when he knew you were caught in the fire was to rush to your rescue. That was the seed he sowed. However, he didn’t handle his relationship issues well before he started dating his girlfriend, which only served to piss the latter off. If the worst comes to the worst, they may break up with each other, and this is the fruit that Xiao Su will reap. From the way I see it, it has nothing to do with you at all.”
After all, Yan was the one who was admired. As she was helplessly caught in the fire, she didn’t expect Xiao Su to risk himself and save her. Although Han Muzi’s words had managed to comfort her, she still couldn’t shake off the pain that she was feeling as she bitterly smiled and said, “I finally know why Xu Yanwan brought me her bank card.”
Even though what He Lianjing did had barely anything to do with her, Xu Yanwan’s name would still be linked with his. Despite her innocence, she would still be deemed to be part of the man’s evil plan as long as the man was doing it all for her, which would only lead to an endless vicious cycle of misfortunes.
Therefore, Xu Yanwan would still inevitably be treated as an accomplice whether she wanted it, even though she wasn’t the culprit behind that incident. As a result, she was burdened by guilt, uneasiness, and embarrassment, much like Yan at this time. I suppose there is no absolute answer to what’s right or wrong in this world because there are simply too many gray areas in which we struggle and fight our battles, just like Xu Yanwan and me.
“Alright, don’t overthink the matter. Just do your what you should and leave the rest to the party involved. After all, they’re all grown adults, and I believe they know what they want. So, you don’t have to waste your breath giving your advice because it won’t work anyway.”
“Yeah, I heard you.” After Han Muzi left, Yan stayed in the room for a long while before she picked up her cell phone and made a call.
Meanwhile, Jiang Xiaobai was sitting on the couch and reading her notes in the apartment when she heard Xiao Su’s phone ringing. Then, she shouted, “Hey, your phone is ringing.” Her response was met with silence, so she turned around to look, only to realize that she was alone in the living room. Since when did Xiao Su go to the bathroom?
Therefore, Jiang Xiaobai extended her arm to reach out for the phone. When she saw the incoming call on the phone screen, she briefly paused and calmed herself down. Xiaoyan? Isn’t this the lady who stole Xiao Su’s heart? Why is she calling him now? I bet he is going to be over the moon if he sees this. Feeling troubled, Jiang Xiaobai hesitated whether she should answer the call when her fingers acted ahead of her mind.
“Hello?”
“Hello, good evening.”
“Good evening.” Yan wasn’t surprised to hear a woman’s voice and even heaved a sigh of relief. “Hi, you must be Xiao Su’s girlfriend, right? I’m Xiaoyan. We met the last time I went over to drop an invitation card.” Jiang Xiaobai responded with an affirmative hum and said, “Yeah, I know. The invitation card had the names of the bride and the bridegroom written on it.”
“I’m sorry to call you at this hour, but I’m actually calling to apologize.” Did she call for the incident that Xiao Su rescued her? Jiang Xiaobai’s eyes wandered aimlessly without giving her a response. “We initially wanted to invite you and your boyfriend to our wedding ceremony, but unfortunately, we hit a snag on that day. You both came in the end, and we’re sorry for wasting your time.”
In fact, Jiang Xiaobai knew what Yan had called for when she saw the phone ringing. She then shifted her gaze to the bathroom, wondering how long more it’d take for Xiao Su to come out. He’s been in there for quite a while. Should I knock and get him to answer the call? After all, the call is for him. While contemplating, Yan seemingly knew what was on Jiang Xiaobai’s mind as she said, “Sorry.”
Jiang Xiaobai was stunned, whereupon she asked, “Did you just apologize to me?”
“Yes, I did.”
“For what? If it’s for Xiao Su’s effort of rescuing you, I don’t think you need to apologize because I don’t blame him for saving you in the first place.” Indeed, Jiang Xiaobai didn’t blame him for that. After all, she knew Xiao Su still had his own relationship issues to deal with when they both started dating, considering the unexpected circumstance under which they both met each other. Therefore, she didn’t force Xiao Su to drop Yan like a hot potato. If forgetting someone was that easy, I wouldn’t even cast an eye on him.
That was why Jiang Xiaobai wasn’t mad at Xiao Su for rescuing Yan at the risk of his own life. What got on her nerves was his heated confrontation with someone else’s husband even though he should be resting due to his injury. His complete disregard of his own condition had unknowingly made him selfish in neglecting Jiang Xiaobai’s worry for him, which was the reason why Jiang Xiaobai was so mad.
“I think I know how you’re feeling. You’re probably guilty right now. So, let me tell you something. Don’t overthink the situation. We’re both getting along well. In fact, I have always been aware of your existence since we first started dating.” What? Upon hearing that, Yan sounded surprised. “You knew?”
“Yes, I knew he had a crush on you.” As a matter of fact, Jiang Xiaobai had already learned about it long ago. Initially, the both of them treated their relationship as a deal as they were both useful to each other. Unbeknownst to them, the incident had somehow played out unexpectedly. Therefore, she’d never punish herself with a mistake that she had made in the past.
Yan had no idea what to say. She knew I was the one with whom Xiao Su was in love when I popped by to drop an invitation card. Yet she still treated me so kindly. “I’m surprised you’d say that.”
“I know it’s not easy for a person to control his feelings. So, I won’t be mad at him. Anyway, I bet you want to thank him, right? I’d suggest that you wait until he completely forgets about you. By then, it’s still not too late for you to come and show your gratitude.”
Jiang Xiaobai’s tactful reply had successfully eased Yan’s worried mind. The two ladies subsequently managed to hit it off during the chat as they were about the same age. Therefore, they then decided to add each other as friends on WeChat. Nonetheless, there was a voice in Jiang Xiaobai’s mind telling her to delete the contact, but in the end, she didn’t listen to it.
