“Let go of me! Lin Jiang, don’t you think it’s ridiculous to ask me such a question? You’ve stayed with your mistress since the day we got married, and you even have a child with her. My guess is that it was almost time for her to give birth when we were getting our divorce, am I right? How dare you have the audacity to question me now? Please get the situation straight!”
Shen Qi tossed the bill at him before smirking at him. “I am pregnant indeed. In fact, I was unfaithful to you when we were married.”
Lin Jiang’s eyes bulged, and he stared in disbelief at her.
It was almost as though he did not expect Shen Qi to say such a thing.
“What’s wrong?” Shen Qi sneered, and she gave him a frosty stare, “Are you the only one allowed to behave atrociously? Stop being a hypocrite and having double standards!”
“You!” Lin Jiang shouted, pointing at her lividly.
Shen Qi smacked his finger away. “You better be careful. Two can play at that game. Don’t you follow me again.”
With that, Shen Qi turned around to leave.
This time, Lin Jiang did not follow her.
He was most probably stunned, and that was why he stood rooted to the spot for ages before finally coming to his senses.
“Damn, she is so shameless even though she cheated on me behind my back. Shen Qi, just you wait for my comeback!”
After that, Shen Qi headed to the company, but due her visit to the hospital, she arrived late. She looked dreadful by the time she entered the company, so she boiled some water to take her medication once she arrived upstairs.
After pondering for a bit, Shen Qi went ahead to knock on Ye Moxuan’s office door.
“Come in.”
His voice was icy-cold and void of warmth.
Shen Qi pushed the door open and entered his office. She walked hesitantly toward Ye Moxuan and was about to ask him if she could take leave today.
However, Ye Moxuan broke the silence first. “Just in time. Get these files out of here and sort them out.”
Xiao Su, who was listening in at the side, couldn’t help but stare wide-eyed at them.
Shen Qi was rendered speechless by his response.
There she was planning to take leave for herself.
“Well, I…”
“Is there a problem?” Ye Moxuan’s brow cocked at her, looking rather arrogant, and his eyes were as conceited as they were this morning.
“N-No problem.” Shen Qi pursed her lips while reaching out to pick the folders up.
It was a huge pile of folders, and Shen Qi was obviously struggling to balance them in her hands. Xiao Su couldn’t help himself when he saw that, and he was about to come forward and help her, but Ye Moxuan glared at him coldly. In the end, Xiao Su had no choice but to stand still.
Shen Qi left the office with the pile of folders, and her legs were trembling and buckling due to the weight. It took her three times to finish shifting the files.
She was already gasping for air by the time she was done shifting the files.
She stared at the pile of files, which covered almost her entire office desk, and she felt rather distressed.
It was obvious that Ye Moxuan was going out of his way to torture her.
Meanwhile, after Shen Qi shifted the files, Xiao Su blurted, “Young Master Ye, why did you do that? All those files are just—”
“Shut up.” Ye Moxuan cut him off coldly. “Get out.”
“But Young Master Ye—”
“Are you too free?”
“I shall leave right now.”
Xiao Su left Ye Moxuan’s office in a hurry and closed the door behind him. Then, he made his way to where Shen Qi was, but he noticed that she didn’t look well at all, so approached her to show his concern.
“Assistant Shen, you look dreadful. Are you feeling unwell?”
When she heard Xiao Su’s voice, Shen Qi looked up at him and forced a smile. “I am fine, so don’t you worry. I will get these files sorted in no time.”
Xiao Su licked his lips and tried to advise her. “To be honest, you don’t have to be meticulous while sorting through these files because these are all—”
“No worries. I will sort them out meticulously.”
How can I not do things meticulously? If I were to be not careful about something, Ye Moxuan would most probably pick on my fault and give me a new task or command.
It’s best for me to complete whatever task at hand well, and I will not second guess the reasons behind it.
Xiao Su did not explain further since she seemed rather determined. However, he reminded her that it was almost lunchtime, and he reminded her to rest for a bit during that time. Shen Qi thanked him, and she left for the cafeteria only when it was time for lunch.
Once Shen Qi arrived at the cafeteria, Yan approached her eagerly again.
“What happened yesterday? Why were you with Vice President Ye? Did Young Master Ye ignore you? Is that why you went out with another man?”
Although it sounded horrible, Shen Qi knew that Yan didn’t mean it in a bad way because her eyes shone with naivety. Hence, Shen Qi answered dejectedly, “Can you please not think in that way?”
“I don’t want to think in that way, but yesterday, Vice President Ye approached you and made me leave. Anyone would have misunderstood that, please. Do you know that everybody has been discussing you since this morning? The things they are saying are much more horrible than what I have just asked you.”
Shen Qi was stumped when she heard that, and she asked instinctively, “What were they discussing?”
“They said that you must be extremely skillful in bed to be able to bed both brothers at once. They also mentioned that there was no need for you to bed a disabled person after bedding Ye Linhan.”
Shen Qi’s expression fell at that because the gossips were truly horrendous.
Yan did not notice the subtle change in Shen Qi’s expression, so she went on relaying the gossip.
“They also mentioned that you are rather shameless for hooking up with the two brothers to climb up the social ladder. They claimed that you would free-fall back to your original position eventually, and when that happened, they would be ready to add insult to injury.”
Shen Qi was at a loss for words at that.
“That’s not all. There are even more that are much worse, you—”
“Stop talking.” Shen Qi cut her off because she had a good grasp of what was happening. Those were all things they said to mock her.
It would be in the same category anyway.
Yan realized Shen Qi looked rather upset after she cut Yan off. “What is it? You don’t look too good. Are you angry at me? I told you beforehand though. I didn’t say those horrid things. They were the ones discussing you. You asked me what they were discussing, so I was merely reiterating their conversations to you.”
Naturally, Shen Qi knew that Yan was just repeating what happened, so she remained silent.
“I’m not blaming you at all. Well, it’s just that I can guess what they have to say without you telling me.”
“Really? In that case, are those things true?” Yan inched closer to her while asking in anticipation.
Shen Qi was rather stumped for words.
Yan propped her chin up with her fist. “In all honesty, you look rather simple and dumb to me, and you don’t look like the kind of woman who would seduce men. Besides, you aren’t as pretty as me, so there’s a higher chance of Vice President Ye falling for me than him falling for you, am I right?”
Shen Qi was rendered speechless by her words.
“Do you think that I don’t make sense? I read through your file, so I know that I’m younger than you. I’m more energetic than you, and that’s why I think that I should be more popular than you. So, I don’t believe that you are that sort of woman for now!” Yan grinned at Shen Qi broadly after speaking her mind, and her sharp canines accentuated her cuteness.
Shen Qi suddenly agreed with what Yan had said because Yan was truly energetic, and she looked adorable and pretty at the same time. This was a desirable trait among women.
Shen Qi, on the other hand, always looked dull, dreadful, and weak. She swallowed whatever difficulties thrown at her.
Who would possibly fancy her?
Shen Qi felt disheartened when she thought about that.
“You shouldn’t be sad though. You might not be as pretty as me, but your looks are considered top-notch among women! Just let me dress you up, and men would be falling all over for you! However, you must not compete with me!”
