Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1441

This unreasonable request made all the color disappear from Xu Yanwan’s face; she didn’t like He Lianjing at all. In fact, her dislike had evolved into loathing. His request for her to wait for him was practically absurd. After all, even for actual couples, the other half certainly wouldn’t wait for their partner if they had been sent to prison, never mind when she and He Lianjing had no relationship with each other at all.

Strangely enough, He Lianjing wasn’t surprised when he watched her face gradually turn pale. He simply eyed Xu Yanwan as he said, “Are you that afraid? Don’t worry, I was just joking. You’re not my girlfriend or wife; why would you wait for me till the end of days for me to be released?”

He does know that. Why did he say such a nonsensical thing then if he clearly knew that?

As she was thinking about this, He Lianjing suddenly hunched over and leaned in close to her face. “Since you aren’t willing to wait for me, I don’t need to turn myself in anymore, am I right?”

Xu Yanwan finally used her strength to push him away, her feet stumbling as she retreated; her back was now against the hard surface of the door. She panted heavily as she regarded He Lianjing with fear.

“Don’t be so scared of me; I didn’t do this because I wanted to scare you.” He Lianjing reached out to touch her forehead. “Alright, I’m going to leave now. Don’t tell anyone that you saw me. If the police ask, just say that you have no clue at all, got it? Luckily, you got yourself drunk last night and never went out. No matter what, they won’t tie this incident to you at all.”

With that, He Lianjing smiled casually at Xu Yanwan before leaving her house.

After He Lianjing left, Xu Yanwan felt all her strength leave her. Slowly, she slid down the wall, releasing the breath that she had been holding.

She had really been horribly frightened there, because she had witnessed the desire at the bottom of He Lianjing’s eyes clearly. She was even worried that He Lianjing would suddenly snap and do something to her. She had lived her life properly; if He Lianjing had actually done something to her, she truly wouldn’t be able to continue to live.

Fortunately, He Lianjing had finally left. Judging from how ferocious He Lianjing had looked earlier, if he made a move on her, she probably would have no way to fight back.

Xiao Su’s injuries stung, making him grit his teeth in pain as he went home. He should have been resting in a hospital bed, but he didn’t dare to rest at all; the only thing he could do was to rush home. However, he didn’t dare to return home like this. After all, Xiaobai seemed very angry today, so Xiao Su bought plenty of food for Jiang Xiaobai on the way back. He had even bought a pearl necklace for her when he passed by a jewelry shop.

When he entered the shop with his injuries, the shop assistant eyed him in surprise. It was only when Xiao Su paid for that pearl necklace that she finally spoke up. “Sir, is this a present for your girlfriend?”

Girlfriend, huh?

Xiao Su pressed his lips together and nodded. “Yes.”

He and Jiang Xiaobei were already a couple.

The shop assistant smiled. “Sir, you’re quite nice to your girlfriend.”

“Nice?” Xiao Su was not sure of that. Did he treat Jiang Xiaobai nicely? If he had been nice to her, she wouldn’t have turned and left in such a huff.

“Of course, sir. You’re already injured this badly, yet you still thought of buying a present for your girlfriend. You should take care of yourself.”

Oh, she’s talking about the injuries I sustained. Xiao Su was at a loss; didn’t he need to make it up to her for angering her?

Xiao Su rushed home after he finished buying all the gifts and food. On his way back, Xiao Su kept thinking about what he should say to make Jiang Xiaobai happy when he saw her later. He kept mulling it over, but he thought that he wasn’t gifted when it came to words; he truly had no idea what to say to cheer her up.

Xiao Su was still agonizing over this when he pushed open the door to his home. However, he realized that the interior was pitch black, and none of the lights were switched on. The house was also utterly silent—no one was home.

Is she already asleep?

Xiao Su switched on the light by the doorway and opened the shoe cabinet to take a look. The shoes didn’t seem to have been disturbed. Did Xiaobai not return at all?

At the thought of that, Xiao Su’s expression shifted. He took the shopping and headed to the bedroom.

Just like the living room, the bedroom was also dark and devoid of people. The blanket did not look to have been touched at all. It was folded up neatly just like when he first left during the day.

Did it mean that Xiaobai had never come back throughout the day? Where did she go after she left the hospital then?

Xiao Su placed the gift and the food onto the table before taking out his phone to dial Xiaobai’s number.

“Sorry, the number you have dialed is unavailable.”

All he heard from his phone was the sweet yet frigid voice of a woman.

Xiao Su hung up and stuffed his phone back into his pocket. He felt unusually irate. After glancing at the bedspread and the gifts, he turned and left to find her.

At that same moment, Jiang Xiaobai was dancing at a random bar.

The music boomed and blared, threatening to deafen her. Jiang Xiaobai was squeezed onto the dance floor, her body swaying chaotically to the beat of the music. This was the first time she had ever stepped foot in a place like this; she had been worried about her lack of dancing skills, but to her surprise, she realized that there were plenty of others who couldn’t dance at all once she entered and observed the place for a while.

In nicer terms, they were dancing; in truth, it was simply a mass of people who were jerking and snapping around like they were possessed by the music. At least, that was how it seemed with the lights overhead and the rhythm of the music. However, if one took the music and lights away and slapped some hospital gowns on them, it actually wouldn’t look out of place, so Jiang Xiaobai left her worries behind after seeing these people dance. She followed the beat and just waved her limbs around. After all, she had come here just to let off some steam. She screeched and jerked her body around, letting out all the anger she had bottled up in herself.

Fang Tangtang was screaming in front of her; it was as though she was speaking to Jiang Xiaobai, but the latter couldn’t hear her.

After dancing for a while, Jiang Xiaobai felt tired. She turned and headed for the bar counter to order a glass of wine.

“How was it? Isn’t it awesome?” Fang Tangtang scooted over and pressed herself to Jiang Xiaobai’s side as she asked her.

“Yeah, it’s okay.” Jiang Xiaobai replied nonchalantly before lifting her glass to drink. She still didn’t feel any kind of drive, but the people around her were clearly on a rush, having gotten high from the fun they were having.

“Hey pretty lady, you’ve got some sweet dance moves.”

A tall and striking man came over, clinking his glass with Jiang Xiaobai’s. His gaze quickly landed on her face. “Are you interested in taking to the stage with me?”

The stage?

Jiang Xiaobai squinted and saw a tall platform. She had danced in the pit, but dancing on the stage would be different; below that stage was a group of hungry, wolfish men.

“You’re so pretty that you’re sure to make them scream if you go up on stage. You’ll definitely make the audience go crazy.”

Jiang Xiaobai simply smiled icily at his words. “Is that so?”

The man leaned in shamelessly. “Of course—we can make a bet if you don’t believe me.”

Jiang Xiaobai had originally wanted to ask who he was and to get out of her sight, but someone had grabbed her arm. She lifted her head to see Xiao Su, who should have been in hospital.
