Jiang Xiaobai thought Xiao Su would open the door himself and come in. After all, he had the key, hadn’t he? However, it soon became very quiet outside, much to her surprise. She waited for more than ten minutes after that, but still, no response. She felt a little weird when she thought of this. The guy actually listened to me and slept on the floor outside?
Two minutes later, Jiang Xiaobai opened the room door stealthily and peeped outside with her head peeking through the half-opened door. Since she didn’t see Xiao Su at the doorway, she had to tiptoe out of the room. Then, she saw Xiao Su sleeping on the sofa in the living room. He looked very tired and he seemed to have fallen asleep soon after lying down. He lay down there with his arms folded across his chest, and only half of his body was covered with a blanket.
Suddenly, Jiang Xiaobai felt sorry for him while seeing him like that. The blanket she gave him just now was the blanket used during spring and autumn seasons, but it was winter now. She thought he would protest, but to her surprise, he actually fell asleep upon lying down. Jiang Xiaobai crouched down beside Xiao Su and gazed at his face quietly.
Is he tired because he needs to work overtime recently? Is that why he’s so tired until he can’t think about other things? Or is it because that woman’s wedding is around the corner, so he busied himself with work to keep his mind off her? In that way, exhaustion will make him fall asleep easily at night as soon as he lies down; he probably won’t think of other stuff.
Jiang Xiaobai felt awful and sad when she thought of this. She felt sorry for him, and at the same time, she felt very uncomfortable too. She held out her hand slowly, trying to touch Xiao Su’s eyebrows, but as soon as her fingers were about to touch him, Xiao Su opened his eyes suddenly. “What do you want now?”
His sudden movement startled Jiang Xiaobai and she froze instantly. Her hand stopped halfway in the air. “Uh, weren’t you asleep? Why did you wake up again?”
Xiao Su’s eyes were clear and bright. He looked quite awake, as if it was just an illusion when Jiang Xiaobai saw him fall asleep just now. “If you keep bothering me like this, I’m afraid both of us won’t have to sleep tonight.”
Jiang Xiaobai pouted her lips when she heard him. “So, you blame me for disturbing your sleep? I thought I’ve explained to you before, didn’t I? I didn’t mean to kick you on purpose just now. I was dreaming and I accidentally kicked you.”
“Well then, what about now?” Xiao Su asked. He held out his hand slowly and grabbed her finger. “What are you doing now?”
Even though he was covered with a thin blanket used during the spring and autumn seasons, he felt pretty warm as his body temperature was still very high. Although Jiang Xiaobai kept moving around and bothering him, her hand felt a little cold.
Jiang Xiaobai took a glance at her finger, which was held by his hand. She pursed her lips and said, “I just feel sorry after chasing you out of the room. What else can I do anyway? Are you worried that I’m going to harm you?”
Although Xiao Su didn’t think she would actually harm him, who knew what Xiaobai would do next since she had always been a cheeky and mischievous girl with lots of strange ideas in her head.
“Feel sorry for me? Then, will you let me go back and sleep in the bedroom?”
“You can actually sleep?”
“I’m very sleepy.”
“Sleepy? You don’t look very sleepy to me. You look so wide awake every time you look at me. I bet you just pretend to be asleep but keep thinking about that person instead.”
In fact, if it wasn’t for Jiang Xiaobai, who mentioned that first, Xiao Su really didn’t think about her at all. She was about to get married anyway and he was quite busy with his work lately too. It was true that he used to like her before, but no matter how sad and heartbroken he was, he couldn’t change the endings of certain things. Besides, since he liked her for so many years, it was rather difficult for him to forget about her. He gazed at her helplessly. “Why do you have to say it out loud if you already knew?”
I knew it. Jiang Xiaobai then smirked as Xiao Su admitted it himself.
“You said it out loud to remind me.”
“What do you mean by I said it to remind you? Even if I did, I said it to remind you to stop thinking about her. She’s about to get married tomorrow and she will be another man’s wife by the time she did. I’m reminding you to forget about her. Who asked you to think about her anyway?” As she spoke, Jiang Xiaobai got slightly angry. She was so worked up that she straight away sat down on the floor.
“Fine, I think we can’t sleep anymore tonight.” Noticing that she had sat down on the floor, Xiao Su could no longer lie down. So, he sat up straight away. “Get up.”
Jiang Xiaobai sat there without moving.
“You’ll catch a cold if you keep sitting on the floor on such a cold day.”
“So be it then, since you don’t care about me anyway.”
“Who said I don’t care about you?”
“I don’t care. You just don’t care about me. Ah…” Before she could finish her words, Xiao Su carried her up and put her on the sofa. He covered the thin blanket over her body too. Then, Xiao Su sat down beside her. “Let’s have a talk?”
“What’s there to talk about?” Jiang Xiaobai curled herself up in the blanket. Although she sounded hostile, she leaned against him involuntarily. She then asked awkwardly, “Don’t you feel cold? Let’s share the blanket?”
Xiao Su looked at her for a while when he heard this. Then, he flipped the blanket and got under it as well. Both of them shared the blanket. Since Xiao Su’s body temperature was quite high, both of them got warmer after cuddling together in the blanket for a while. Jiang Xiaobai had leaned on his shoulder. “Now tell me, what do you want to talk to me about? You want to talk about the girl you love?”
“I told you before that we can try to date each other first, right?”
Upon hearing his words, Jiang Xiaobai’s heart skipped a beat as she stared at him cautiously. Is he starting to feel irritated because I keep throwing a tantrum with him? So, he wants to complain about my behavior, or does he want to break up with me? She just stared at him without saying anything.
“I have been trying to learn about how to become a thoughtful boyfriend lately, but since I have a lot of work I need to do at the company recently, maybe sometimes I can be too busy to pay attention to you. As for my feelings, I’m sure you know very well about what’s on my mind; I can’t and won’t lie to you about it either. So, if you want, I can be responsible to you and we can continue our relationship, but if you think it’s unfair for you to stay with me during this time, then…”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Jiang Xiaobai became very upset before he could even finish his sentence. “It’s just been a while. I’ve just thrown a fit with you for a while, and now you’re saying you want to break up with me?”
Xiao Su frowned when he heard her. “I didn’t say I’m going to break up with you.”
“You didn’t? Then, what did you mean when you said that just now? Why do I have the feeling that it sounds like you’re breaking up with me?”
“No, I didn’t mean it that way. I just think if you’re upset or feeling that things are unfair for you, then I don’t want to keep mistreating you like that.”
Jiang Xiaobai retorted bluntly, “If I’m upset, aren’t you supposed to feel sorry and be nicer to me instead? Isn’t that the right thing which you’re supposed to do? Just listen to what nonsense you said just now!”
Suddenly, Xiao Su thought it made sense after hearing what she said. Indeed, it would be better if he did according to what she said. So, he nodded seriously. “Since you said so, I’ll do that from now on then.”
Looking at his serious face, Jiang Xiaobai’s mood lightened up a bit. “Glad that you understand that.”
The man needed guidance indeed. If she didn’t guide him, he would do according to what he thought was right. She provided some guidance to Xiao Su recently. She simply couldn’t let the man, whom she trained, escape just like that; otherwise, it would benefit other girls instead. She wasn’t that much of an idiot.
“So, do we have a deal? Then, can we go to sleep now?”
