Something did not feel right about Xiao Su and it showed on his face. Jiang Xiaobai was still smiling a moment ago, but after seeing the expression on his face, she felt slightly perplexed. “What’s wrong? It’s just an invitation to a wedding. Why do you look like that? Don’t tell me you have bad blood with the host of this wedding?”
Her voice pulled him out of his thoughts. He pursed his lips without giving her a reply.
“Are you not going to say anything?” She walked around the table to stand in front of him. Looking at his face carefully, she narrowed her eyes at him suspiciously and wanted to say more.
But Xiao Su spoke up at that moment, “How long ago did she leave?”
Jiang Xiaobai was taken back. A moment later, she replied, “About twenty minutes.”
Twenty minutes? I can’t catch up to her now. He frowned and remained silent.
Jiang Xiaobai finally sensed that something was going on. As she stared at his eyes and expression, the smile in her eyes slowly disappeared.
“The person who brought this invitation was a girl. She is petite and quite pretty.”
Just then, the frown on his face deepened. Upon seeing his reaction, Jiang Xiaobai became certain. She scoffed, “Is she the one you’ve been keeping in your heart?”
This sentence seemed to have woken him up. He quickly focused his attention back on Jiang Xiaobai. When he did not see any trace of warmth but only coldness in her eyes, he realized that he had acted stupidly. “I—” He opened his mouth to speak when she shoved the wedding invitation at him, turned around to go to her room, and slammed the door behind her.
Bang! The loud bang seemed to have penetrated through the whole building. He could not help but pull his brows together at that. A moment later, he lowered his head and looked at the invitation in his hands. He unwillingly put it down on the table then proceeded to put the groceries in the kitchen. Once he was done sorting everything out, he saw that the room door was still firmly shut. She had not come out since she went in there. He was going to go in and explain to her but found that she had locked the door.
“Xiaobai?” he called with a frown on his face. However, there was no answer from inside.
Meanwhile, Jiang Xiaobai was idling away inside the room. She sat by the window and looked at the scenery downstairs. All she could think of was the image of Yan. I thought it was odd that a girl came looking for him. Turns out it was the person engraved in his heart.
She had always known that there was someone in his heart that he could not forget, but somehow she still ended up dating him. Moreover, she was having fun in their relationship. Xiao Su was always being bullied by her but he never once complained. Nonetheless, after seeing Yan, and seeing his reaction when he found out Yan was about to get married, she did not feel okay anymore. Maybe everyone is selfish in love, including me.
Click. The door opened all of a sudden. She snapped her head back to see Xiao Su standing by the door with a key in his hand and a helpless look on his face. Their eyes met. She only took one look at him before she looked away and said, “Must be great to have the key. I can’t even have some time to myself here. Sigh.”
He glanced down at the key in his hand and kept it away in his pocket silently. Then, he walked toward her and lowered his head to look at her. “If I let you stay here by yourself for too long, won’t you be even angrier?”
Will I be angrier if I stayed here by myself? I haven’t even stayed here for that long yet. How would I know? All she knew was the despair she felt when she saw the change in his face at that moment. It was like passing by a display window at a young age and seeing all the different colored candies on the shelves, wanting to have a taste of it, but being unable to afford it. It was frustrating and sad. Then, she laughed at herself. “So what if I’m angry? It’s nothing compared to the anguish you must feel.”
He did not know how to respond to her, so he changed the subject instead. “I bought everything you told me to buy this morning. Don’t you want to take a look?”
She lifted her head and glared at him. “Are you changing the subject?”
He decided to take that chance to explain, “I’m not. But if this makes you unhappy, then there’s no point in bringing it up.”
After glaring at him a bit longer, she suddenly got up, pushed him aside, and made her way to the kitchen. She used quite a bit of force and Xiao Su stumbled a few steps back; at the same time, the corners of his lips slowly turned up into a smile. It’s still pretty easy to coax her.
Jiang Xiaobai spent a long time fiddling around in the kitchen until Xiao Su came in. Out of anger, she kept giving him tasks to do in the kitchen. “Cut this melon and make sure the slices are thin. It looks better that way. Make it even, too. Once you’re done washing the vegetables, gut the fish and clean out the refrigerator.”
He knew that she was angry. Regardless of what she said, he did not oppose and did everything he was told. While Jiang Xiaobai stood at the back, pointing in all directions as she gave orders, she felt her anger subside gradually when she saw how obedient he was.
Although he infuriated her earlier, he also knew to approach her immediately and listen to everything she said. She was impressed that he did not just stare at that wedding invitation all day. Ultimately, she was willing to understand him because she knew that it was not that easy to give up on the person you like. If it were that quick, then what kind of man would that make him? If he could give up on someone else that quickly, then even if he fell in love with me, he would give up on me just as quickly at some point and move on to someone new.
That was not the kind of relationship she wanted. Furthermore, Yan was about to get married and she never had anything to do with Xiao Su. No matter what, nothing will ever happen between the both of them in this lifetime. All he needs to do now is slowly forget about her and come to me instead. You’ll see how I treat you once you’re completely mine, Xiao Su. Hmph!

Xiao Su had practically made lunch because Jiang Xiaobai did not touch a single thing. All she did was stand at the back and point at everything. Then, she just sat down and waited to eat. After stuffing herself, her anger had completely dissipated.
But the invitation at the corner of the table kept capturing her attention. That was still a serious question that needed to be dealt with, so she decided to bring it up. “She knows that I’m your girlfriend and invited the both of us to her wedding. Do you want to go?”
Xiao Su was still digging into his rice bowl but stopped moving when he heard her question. This feels like a trick question.
“What’s the matter? You don’t know if you want to go or not? Or do you not know how to answer me?”
He stayed silent for a while, then looked straight at her. “Do you want to go?”
