Jiang Xiaobai looked at him from behind. For reasons unbeknownst to her, she looked down at her hand before she quickly followed suit. When Jiang Xiaobai went back to the car, Liang Yahe caringly went up to her and held her by her hands. “Xiaobai, are you feeling unwell? You’ve been in the bathroom for quite a long time.”
Hearing this, Jiang Xiaobai felt embarrassed. “Mrs. Xiao, I’m fine; I went to touch up my make-up.”
All of Liang Yahe’s worries went away the moment she heard that. She chuckled. “Ah, I see. Xiaobai, you’re already pretty enough. It doesn’t matter whether you touch it up or not. Are you tired? Should we take a break?”
“I’m alright.”
“We’re just an hour away. If you’re tired, we can take a break here, since the wedding doesn’t start right away.”
“Don’t worry, Mrs. Xiao. We can get back on the road now.”
“Are you sure you don’t need a break?”
“I really don’t, Mrs. Xiao. Let’s go.”
“Alright then. If you aren’t feeling well again, remember to tell us. I’ll be on your side. The wedding can wait.”
“Sure. Thanks, Mrs. Xiao.” Liang Yahe’s care and love warmed Jiang Xiaobai’s heart. If something took place between Xiao Su and her in the future, it would be her good fortune as Liang Yahe was the kind of mother-in-law that many daughters-in-law dreamed of—the kind that would put her daughter-in-law before anyone else. There would no longer be any arguments between any mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law if Liang Yahe were the typical mother-in-law under the sun. Just that… Jiang Xiaobai became saddened and ceased her thoughts.
Once again, they got back on the road and soon, they arrived at the wedding venue. Many came up to them the moment they got out of the car. When Xiao Su was walking behind Jiang Xiaobai, he took the opportunity to whisper in her ears, “If anyone asks you about anything that annoys you, you don’t have to answer them.”
Jiang Xiaobai gave him a surprised look. “If I don’t, won’t I offend people?”
“I’ll take care of that.” His voice was deep and firm, giving her a sense of security; he also said these words without any hesitation. Jiang Xiaobai was nonplussed before she responded with a gentle smile on her face, “Sure. If anything serious happens, you’ll have to take care of it.”
“Alright,” Xiao Su responded, looking nonchalant.
Shortly after, the corner of his eyes caught Jiang Xiaobai’s eyes. The both of them locked eyes for almost seven seconds. At this moment, a famous saying came to Jiang Xiaobai’s mind. If you looked someone in the eye for more than seven seconds, you’d uncontrollably and crazily fall for that person. This was something that she heard of before but never had the chance to prove, but now, she had the chance. She had yet to find out if she had already fallen for Xiao Su, but her heart was pounding in her chest. Ba-dum! Ba-dum! One beat after another, her heart was pounding hard against her chest. It felt like her heart was about to pierce through her body.
Jiang Xiaobai quickly turned away from Xiao Su’s eyes. Xiao Su pursed his lips and noticed that her tiny white earlobes had turned pink. Then, he came back to his senses and swallowed hard, trying to suppress the heat he felt in his chest.
“Yes, yes! Xiao Su is here too.” After some exchange of greetings between Liang Yahe and her relatives, a group of them looked over, including Liang Yahe, who was looking at Jiang Xiaobai with a proud look on her face. Liang Yahe commented with a smiley face, “Xiao Su has been doing great—he found a girlfriend, and the two of them have been doing well. They’re about to get married; that’s why he decided to bring her to the wedding.”
Xiao Su and Jiang Xiaobai were rendered speechless as they heard the part about getting married. Both of them were embarrassed while thinking that they were supposed to explain everything to Liang Yahe after they got back from the wedding. However, they did not expect Liang Yahe to tell her relatives that they were about to get married.
If it wasn’t because of how well Liang Yahe had been treating Jiang Xiaobai, Jiang Xiaobai would feel a deep repugnance for someone who did what Liang Yahe just did. But seeing how genuinely happy Liang Yahe was, one could easily tell that she had no ill intentions; she was genuinely nice toward Jiang Xiaobai. This was something that Jiang Xiaobai could attest to.
At this point, Jiang Xiaobai whispered to Xiao Su, “So, what now? Your mother seems to be getting excited. After this wedding, are people going to start assuming that your wedding is next?”
Xiao Su remained silent, though, he looked annoyed. Jiang Xiaobai followed up, “But look at how happy your mother is. Will she be heartbroken when we tell her the truth?” Xiao Su threw a glance at Jiang Xiaobai, who blinked and remarked unexpectedly, “What if… we make it real?”
When these words came out, they shocked both of them at the same time. While Xiao Su was shocked because of hearing this unexpected comment from her, Jiang Xiaobai was surprised to hear herself say things of such audacity. She looked at the shocked look on Xiao Su’s face, not knowing how to continue. She felt extremely embarrassed but did not look so; conversely, she went up and grabbed Xiao Su by his arm on purpose. “What’s wrong? Can’t you take a joke? I was just saying it for fun. Are you upset? Have you ever wondered if I’d ever fall for you?”
The slight passion that was aroused earlier had just been completely extinguished—like a fire that had just been put out by a tub of ice water. The look on Xiao Su’s face went back to normal. “You’re overthinking.”
“Me? Don’t give me that look. I’m here for your cousin’s wedding, and if you give me that upsetting look to embarrass me, I won’t forgive you,” Jiang Xiaobai warned him, still whispering.
Xiao Su simply responded without a second thought, “Embarrass? So what? We’re going to tell them the truth when we get back anyway. We’re just doing it now instead of later.”
These words startled Jiang Xiaobai. Before she could yell at him, Liang Yahe and the relatives walked over. “Look at these two; look at how close they are! I’ve just stepped away for a moment and their arms are around each other already.”
Again, Jiang Xiaobai was rendered speechless. Don’t you see how upset your son looks right now?
However, Liang Yahe had disregarded her son. Right now, she could only see Jiang Xiaobai. Having lost the enthusiasm to deal with Xiao Su, the genuineness and fervency she saw on Liang Yahe’s face came to mind. In the end, Jiang Xiaobai forced a smile on her face as she greeted them, “Hello, everyone.”
As she was a beautiful person with a tall and lean stature, not to mention the way she dressed up today, her smile had made many of them pause in astonishment. Someone honest and frank grabbed Liang Yahe and commented, “Yahe, your future daughter-in-law looks stunning. How did your son manage to find someone like her? You should come and help my son out.”
These words almost irritated Liang Yahe, but because of the fact that it was from a relative of hers, she calmed herself down. “It’s all fate, and since Xiaobai is fated to meet the Xiao family, it’s natural that they got together. Whether or not Tianming can meet someone depends on fate. It’s not something that you can just look for.”
