“Of course not!” Yan denied instantly then came to understand Han Qing’s point. She quickly continued, “Okay, okay. I’ll stop asking you now so stop asking me too.”
“Why?” He raised his eyebrows at her through the rearview mirror. “Is this too much for you?”
“Yes! I surrender.” She raised both hands. “Now focus on driving.”
One more thing that made her happy was how he did not ask her any questions or have any doubts when she kicked Xu Yanwan out of the car. He did not do any of that, nor did he call Xu Yanwan back to the car. Now that Yan thought about it, Han Qing did not have any compassion or care for her. Xu Yanwan seemed quite pitiful. Was I too harsh? Forget it. I don’t care anymore. She was the one who didn’t take a taxi and insisted on getting in my boyfriend’s car. She even asked me those outrageous questions. She deserved it!

Jiang Xiaobai was under a lot of stress lately. Ever since her grandmother’s birthday feast where Uncle Yanming bumped into Xiao Su, Uncle Yanming kept looking for a chance to work with him. However, he did not have the means to because he did not know Xiao Su while Jiang Xiaobai did. Even so, he didn’t dare to approach Jiang Xiaobai directly, so he met her father, Jiang Yanke, and her mother, Du Xiaoyu. When he visited them, he brought loads of gifts and gave loads of compliments before making clear what the purpose of his visit was. Talking about her Uncle Yanming and First Aunt, Jiang Xiaobai did not actually have a strong impression of them.
Though, she was still on good terms with Uncle Yanming’s son, Jiang Yoo. Uncle Yanming had always been busy earning money, and First Aunt also wanted to help out. When they got to a more stable point in their lives, they finally had more free time and also sent some things to her parents occasionally. Jiang Yoo also took care of her during their school days. So, when Du Xiaoyu asked, Jiang Xiaobai did not know how to refuse.
Jiang Xiaobai thought of her relationship with Xiao Su. If we were really boyfriend and girlfriend, then it would not be that big of a deal. But we’re just pretending right now. We agreed on a few conditions before we started this whole act, but none of the conditions included interfering with his work.
Jiang Xiaobai was having a major headache. She could only express her anguish to her mother. “Mom. I really want to help Uncle Yanming too. But think about it; Xiao Su and I are not steady yet. Wouldn’t it be bad to interfere with his work at this point? I know Uncle Yanming wants to do business, but Xiao Su is not working at just an ordinary enterprise group. Du Xiaoyu seemed to have thought of something and did not answer her. A moment later, she said, “I’ll do it, then. You just bring him home again. I’ll swallow my pride and ask him!”
“No! I don’t want to!”
“What’s the problem now?”
“I just can’t. Doesn’t Uncle Yanming know President Zhao? President Zhao and Xiao Su are acquainted with each other. Have Uncle Yanming go look for President Zhao instead. Anyway, I still have other things to do here so I’ll hang up now.” With that, Jiang Xiaobai immediately hung up the phone and put it on ‘Do Not Disturb’. This is so annoying.
Uncle Yanming and her family were giving her more trouble when she had yet to sort out her feelings. Her relationship with Xiao Su grew somewhat colder recently. But Xiao Su still seems the same as before. There is not much of a change in him, so I must be the only one who feels this way. Jiang Xiaobai was still distraught. She did not want what was fake to turn into something real. If she really fell for him, then it would be over for her. Unfortunately for her, she never imagined that Xiao Su’s parents would suddenly visit her.
The weather was getting colder. Other than going out to buy things, Jiang Xiaobai did not ever leave the house. She wrapped herself up and spent all day in front of her computer under her small warm light with a cup of hot milk. Life was so good for her that it was almost astonishing. But after sitting for a while, a thought struck her. She then got up and went to the bathroom to put on a sheet mask on her face. Just as she stepped out of the bathroom, however, she heard a sound in the direction of the door as though someone had opened it.
She froze. Could it be Xiao Su? It’s still early. He wouldn’t be back yet. But who else would have the keys to this place and be able to come in so freely? She suddenly felt goosebumps. Could it be a robber? She quickly looked around frantically, then went into the kitchen to grab a pan. I’m going to send his head flying if it’s a robber!
“Mingzhi, do you think we came to the wrong house?”
To her surprise, she heard a married couple talking to each other. First, it was a woman who sounded confused, then a man who did not sound too certain either. “I don’t think so. Hasn’t it always been this place? Look, the key is still the same. If it’s wrong, we wouldn’t be able to open it.”
“Then, why does it look like this? When we came here last time, the house was completely empty. It had nothing in it. But look; all these things look like they belong to a girl!”
“Hmm. What if Xiao Su got himself a girlfriend?”
“A girlfriend?” The woman had a mocking tone. “He devotes all his time to his work. He doesn’t even have a lot of people skills. How would he get a girlfriend?”
The man let out a couple of awkward pauses. “Don’t talk about him like that. He’s just busy. Once he gets caught up in work, it’s easy to forget about everything else. How can you talk about him like he has no good traits?”
The woman clicked her tongue and started to rebuke, sounding more disgruntled with each sentence, “Did I say something wrong? Does he even realize how old he is now? He still spends all his time working. He’s not handsome and he even has a scar on his face. Who would want to be with someone so ugly? Sigh. How did I give birth to a son like him?”
