“After we grew up, the Xu family moved away. We didn’t even keep in touch these few years, so how could she have become my fiancée?” Han Qing explained to her softly while Yan finally cooled down to listen to him.
According to him, the both of them seemed to not have any relationship at all. Then why did Xu Yanwan claim herself as his fiancée? “Are you sure both of you aren’t engaged? She’s not your fiancée?”
“Yan, a wedding engagement isn’t a small matter. Do you think I’ll forget about it if the both of us are really engaged?”
Yan suddenly was speechless. She suddenly thought of something and asked suspiciously, “Then back then when we were at home and I asked you why you didn’t tell me about this, but you only replied it’s hard to put it into words… Weren’t you referring to this?”
Han Qing recalled for a moment and suddenly laughed. “I thought you were referring to why I don’t celebrate my birthday.”
Yan was at a loss for words. So, I was mad for nothing all this while? Han Qing had misunderstood her question and she had also misunderstood him.
“Next time when you ask a question, can you be clearer? The question you asked that time was so vague, so how would I know what you were referring to?”
Yan felt like he was blaming her. She then blinked and asked, “So you’re trying to say I’m too willful now? Since the both of you aren’t engaged, why did she admit to such things? Did you forget about it?”
“Admit?” Han Qing caught the keyword in her sentence. “She told you herself that she’s my fiancée?”
“More or less.” Yan pursed her lips while answering in an upset tone, “She didn’t plan to tell me initially. It was the people in the company who told me first, then she admitted it herself.”
Han Qing was someone that could see through others. When Yan said that, he immediately had an idea of what she went through. She thought Xu Yanwan was engaged to him and the people in the company knew about it while she was the only one who did not. She was also left alone during the birthday celebration. In the end, when she heard of this unacceptable news and went to ask him about it after she found it hard to accept, the both of them had a misunderstanding. After that, she wanted to break up with him. Anyone would lose their cool when faced with this type of situation. Moreover, his young lady loved him so much. Han Qing felt his heart aching after thinking of her crying for the past few days. He placed his big hand behind her head and pulled her over into his arms.
“There’s no engagement. There’s nothing between the both of us. I, Han Qing, have always been a single man. You’re the one who came after me first. I’ve told you that I’ve only acknowledged you and I won’t choose anyone else.”
Yan lay in his arms while listening to his heartbeat as her eyes reddened. She felt like she had been angry at him for nothing all this while. He could not be lying to her, which meant there was no engagement between him and Xu Yanwan if he insisted on this. But… what’s going on? Why did Xu Yanwan claim that she’s engaged to him? The people in the company said the same too.
“I know what you’re thinking. I’ll investigate this when we go back. After that, I’ll give you an answer.”
“Hmph.” Yan scoffed proudly while snuggling up to him. “I don’t want to know…”
“You don’t want to know? Then I’ll just leave the matter be when we get back?”
“How dare you?!” Yan yelled at him subconsciously before freezing for a moment.
Han Qing’s gaze fixated on her; his eyes were full of emotions as he touched the corner of her eyes while whispering, “Let’s just remain like this from now on.”
“What?”
“From now on, just get along with me like this. Don’t be too cautious with me. When you’re with me, you do whatever you want.”
Yan did not know how to respond. Thinking back, she was indeed being too willful this time. However, Han Qing tolerated her and even followed her all the way to here. She even said such hurtful words to him that anyone with a large ego would probably be unable to bear. However, he never lost his temper and kept following her—all the while tolerating her. If… she did not have a slip of a tongue and mentioned his fiancée, then wouldn’t she have wrongly broken up with him. After thinking about it, Yan wanted to apologize to him but felt awkward, so she could only scoff again. “Don’t act all proud. I don’t need you to teach me how to do this. I can do whatever I want.”
“Yes, you can do whatever you want.”
Then, both of them entered a moment of silence. After a while, Han Qing’s deep voice broke the silence. “Do you know why I don’t celebrate my birthday?”
Yan’s heart skipped a beat after hearing the question. She blinked her eyes nervously. Is he going to tell me the reason why he doesn’t celebrate his birthday? Normally, everyone would not hate celebrating their birthdays. Even if they would not purposely celebrate it, they would still be happy if someone were to celebrate it with them. If he never wanted to celebrate his birthday, that meant there was a memory that he never wanted to recall.
Yan suddenly remembered he had a tortured look that day when she asked him to blow out the candles. She immediately replied, “No.” She shook her head and snuggled into Han Qing’s arms. “I don’t want to know why you never want to celebrate your birthday. If you don’t want to celebrate, then let’s not do it after this. I’ll accompany you but I won’t celebrate it with you.”
After listening to the words that came from the bottom of her heart, Han Qing’s heart melted as well. The gloomy mood he had been in in the past few days also disappeared. He raised his lips and smiled while asking, “You really don’t want to know? Now that I want to say it, are you sure you don’t want to listen? There’ll be no chances after this.”
“I don’t want to hear it!” The young lady shook her head in his arms. “I won’t listen no matter what you say. I don’t want to know.” He had truly looked as if he was suffering that day. If a cake could make him suffer that much, how would he react if he was going to tell her about what happened before this? She was not that cruel to rub salt on other’s wounds just to appease her curiosity. Here, let me show you; this is my wound. Her heart ached just thinking about it.
“I was never angry about that. I was angry about your fiancée. Since things are cleared up now, I won’t be mad at you anymore.”
“You’re not going to break up with me anymore?”
“Nope.” Yan shook her head. “Not breaking up anymore.”
“Then do you still want your purse and ID back?”
“Nope.”
“So you’ll go back with me today?”
Yan immediately came back to her senses while lifting her head to look at him. Han Qing grabbed onto her chin and kissed her unexpectedly as soon as she lifted her head. His tongue was already inside her mouth when she was frozen for a moment.
“Mhm.” Yan hummed softly, but this time, she did not resist fully. Her heart was so soft because of Han Qing’s words. She just left her neck hanging while accepting his kisses, occasionally responding shyly. It was uncertain how long they had kissed for when Han Qing retreated and asked her softly, “Will you follow me back then?”
Yan nodded in a daze and said, “Yes!”
