At the hospital, Yan was waiting at the entrance when Han Muzi arrived. Han Muzi was not alone; Ye Moxuan was following behind her with Little Sprout in his arms.
Seeing this, Yan winced and pulled Han Muzi aside. “I really want to give Little Sprout a hug but I don’t think she should be coming along. It’s full of germs in the hospital. She is healthy now. I don’t think she should come.”
Han Muzi gave a thought to what Yan said and agreed with her. Turning to face Ye Moxuan, she said, “You go back to the car with Little Sprout first.”
Ye Moxuan was perplexed.
“What? Do you want to bring your daughter into the hospital?”
He replied matter-of-factly, “The chauffeur can look after her for a while.”
Han Muzi stared at him. “This is your daughter and you want to pass her to the chauffeur? What if the chauffeur abducts her?” In fact, the chauffeurs hired by the Ye Family were trustworthy—she was just messing with her husband.
Standing beside them, the chauffeur’s face started to flush. He quickly defended himself, “Young Lady Ye, I’m not this kind of person and I would never do this sort of thing. I swear to this, putting my character and dignity on the line.” This was a serious matter if the lady of the house suspected that he might abduct their kid. The chauffeur was panicking.
Han Muzi wanted to laugh. But Ye Moxuan had become alarmed now, staring at the chauffeur warily. The chauffeur quickly said, “Young Master Ye, I have been the chauffeur of the Ye Family for so many years and I would never do this. I have my own family to feed too. I would be crazy to even think of doing this!”
“Alright, relax. I was just pulling your leg.” Han Muzi gently tapped on the chauffeur’s shoulder. “I was only joking because I trust you! Don’t be stressed.”
Upon hearing her assurance, the chauffeur almost cried out with joy. “Really? You never suspected me?”
“Never.”
However, Ye Moxuan’s face darkened as he was holding Little Sprout in his arms. Han Muzi extended her hands and pinched Little Sprout’s cheeks. “Good girl, stay with Daddy outside here for a while. I will meet you and Daddy after I accompany Auntie Yan to the hospital.”
Little Sprout giggled innocently. Scowling, Ye Moxuan gave Yan a sidelong look, who quickly avoided his glance as she straightened her back. She wasn’t trying to steal his wife, but was only borrowing some of her time to accompany her to the hospital. What was the big deal anyway? Hmph! She was not afraid of him.
It was only after Han Muzi and Yan had walked a distance away from Ye Moxuan that the piercing stares from him diminished out of sight. Astonished, Yan covered her mouth. “Oh my goodness, what’s wrong? Why is Young Master Ye acting like a child, always following you everywhere? Now even to the hospital?”
Han Muzi felt helpless upon hearing those questions. “I have no idea either. Since he regained his memories, he has become very clingy, as if worried that I would just vanish out of thin air.” But it was him who disappeared the last time. I should be the one worrying, Han Muzi thought. Instead, he grew so attached to the both of them nowadays; either with Little Sprout or herself. If she wasn’t aware of his past working capabilities before, she would have presumed that Ye Moxuan was a good-for-nothing man and only wanted to live off her.
But Han Muzi did not mind at all. She was capable of being the sole breadwinner of the family if Ye Moxuan really wanted to depend on her. Although her income now was nothing compared to the earnings gained by Ye Group, it was still more than enough for her to feed him and the two children. Looking back, Han Muzi felt a stream of relief. She recalled the days she spent together with Lin Jiang, when she only hoped to live an ordinary and plain life. However, time and unforeseen circumstances overtook them all. Life was always full of surprises anyway.
“Oh right, why did you want to visit the hospital? Is everything alright?” asked Han Muzi, pulling herself back to reality.
Taken aback by the sudden question, Yan’s pale face immediately turned blushed pink. “Erm… I need to tell you something. But you have to promise me, you will not tell anyone else.”
“What is it? Tell me.”
“You have to promise me first—keep this only to the two of us.” Yan stopped in her tracks with a solemn look in her eyes. “Can you promise me?”
Speechless, Han Muzi was even more curious now. “What’s with the mystery? What are you hiding? What brings you to the hospital?”
“You have to promise me first! Muzi, are we still the best of friends?” Yan couldn’t hold her anxiety any longer. Shaking Han Muzi’s shoulders forcefully, she prodded, “Quick, promise me first!”
“Alright, alright. I promise you!” Han Muzi finally agreed, feeling giddy.
With that, Yan let out a sigh of relief. She looked around—making sure that Ye Moxuan did not follow them from behind—and brought her face close to Han Muzi’s ears as she whispered to her. She pulled away once she finished her story.
With a bewildered look upon her face, Han Muzi uttered, “Why are you being so discreet? Your voice was so faint that I could barely hear what you were saying, not to mention we have all the noises from the people around us. How could I hear you?”
“What? You didn’t hear what I said?” Yan grimaced. Hesitating, she finally gathered her courage and stammered, “I think… I think I’m pregnant…”
Han Muzi was shocked. What? She didn’t react immediately but after realizing what she had heard, her eyes widened. “Pregnant?”
Yan leapt forward and covered her mouth. “Shh! Keep your voice down. I’m not too sure myself; I’m just guessing! So I wanted to verify this by coming to the hospital.”
Han Muzi just blinked as Yan let go of her hands and said, “I took the test with a pregnancy test kit, but I’m not sure whether the result was accurate…”
“That was why you didn’t want to come to the hospital alone? And you called me along because you are keeping this by yourself and you are too afraid to tell my brother, right?” Han Muzi knew Yan too well. She could read Yan’s mind like a book after hearing about the secret.
“You are right. It’s not that I want to keep it from you, but I’m just afraid that this whole thing is only a false alarm…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Han Muzi held her hands, and she felt comfort from the warmth pulsating through the skin of Han Muzi’s palms. “What nonsense are you thinking about? The pregnancy test kit is generally accurate, especially during the early stage. So what if this was a false alarm? You and my brother are getting married sooner or later. Getting pregnant will only be a matter of time. What are you worried about?”
With that, Yan blushed. “I-I can’t say for sure.”
