“Something else? What is it?”
The others did not immediately grasp the meaning behind those words.
“Sex, of course! I’ve heard that some women are skillful in that area in their attempts to seduce men, don’t you know? They might not be extraordinarily beautiful or they do have any particular special capabilities, but because of their skills in bed, they drive these men crazy.”
Upon hearing those comments, Xu Yanwan wanted to refute those allegations without a second thought. Her impression of Han Qing was totally different. He was never a shallow person who would fall head over heels in love with a woman from just her physical appearance, what more to be crazy about sex. Now, Xu Yanwan was even more baffled how Yan had attracted Han Qing.
“Oh my goodness, it all makes sense now. There are many in this office who have a crush on President Han. They either admire him secretly or at most just to create encounters with him and bump into him. But no one has ever tried using this dirty trick before. If it’s true that that woman had used this dirty trick to seduce our President Han, then perhaps…”
At that instant, the girls started to feel indignant as they fixed their gaze upon Xu Yanwan.
“You are after all President Han’s fiancée. Aren’t you going to do anything about it?”
“Yes, exactly. The mistress is so disgraceful; we must teach her a lesson.”
“Miss Xu, President Han is yours. You cannot just give away your fiancé without putting up a fight.”
Everyone was staring at her, but they failed to detect even the slightest hint of anger on Xu Yanwan’s face. Xu Yanwan’s expression did not change; she was even smiling gently. “Hey guys, it’s really time to get back to work now. I don’t think you should be discussing these.”
“Aren’t you angry at all? Your fiancé…”
Xu Yanwan sighed. “You do not have any proof from what you’ve just said. Why should I believe you? As for me, I just want to do my best at my job. And as for President Han, it all depends on fate. If he really likes that other person, then it’s out of my hands.” With that, Xu Yanwan nodded at them. “Okay, I need to be at work now. Excuse me, and you should get back to work too.”
After Xu Yanwan left, the rest of them remained at their place, blinking at each other in confusion.
“I’m so pissed! Is she really President Han’s fiancée? How could she remain so calm while her fiance was being snatched by somebody else?”
“Exactly. And she says that she wants to focus on her work now? Is she being serious?”
“I think she is classy. Maybe she thought what President Han and the mistress have is true love, so she decided to take a step back.”
“But if she found out that it wasn’t true love, would she…”
“The question is, how do we find out whether Yan has ulterior motives with dirty tricks under her sleeve in seducing our President Han?”
While they were gossiping, Xu Yanwan was already walking further away from them. After a distance, she stopped at her tracks and turned toward the bathroom. Having splashed some water on her face, she stared back at herself in the mirror. She was bare-faced without any make-up on. Unable to afford to buy any cosmetics now, she pondered how her old self as a delicate, elegant and high-class Young Lady of the Xu Family no longer existed. Compared with the other girls, there was no way she could stand a chance. She had nothing now.
Xu Yanwan also knew clearly that those colleagues were just a bunch of busybodies who were more interested in snooping around for more gossip. Did they genuinely want to help her? No, they were only jealous of the woman whom President Han was in love with now. Judging from their facial expressions with their tone of voice and mannerism, she could tell that they were frustrated when they heard about the ‘dirty trick’.
At this thought, Xu Yanwan smiled helplessly. She could guarantee that at that moment, they must have regretted not using the dirty trick on President Han first before the woman did. In that way, one of them could have been President Han’s girlfriend. Xu Yanwan was also certain that if she had been the girlfriend of President Han today, they would have treated her exactly the way they were treating Yan now. So, she decided that she would never associate with these people. Patting her cheeks in a self-consoling way, Xu Yanwan left the bathroom.
She was performing very well at work recently. Her superior also noticed her good work and was satisfied with her performance, even delegating her with a substantial amount of tasks. She then gave herself a mental note to strive harder and harder. She knew that her hard work would eventually pay off.

On the other side, Yan finally found some time to study the pregnancy test kit. For just a few moments, she managed to figure out how to use it. She recalled how previously she had spent an entire day cracking her head on how to go about this little equipment. She was probably too nervous that day. Ever since the incident which happened at her house when Han Qing came, Yan had found herself in a calmer mood. She patiently waited for the results.
As soon as she saw the test outcome, Yan was completely stunned. Still holding the pregnancy test in her hands, she was unable to react. A sudden quiet came over her and her surroundings, except for the sound of her heart, pumping loudly under her chest. Ta-thump! Ta-thump! She was really… pregnant. She couldn’t believe… that she was really pregnant!
Before she could comprehend the feeling creeping up on her, Yan felt her eyes were burning. With her fingers over her mouth, her tears came running down her cheeks. She was pregnant! She was having a baby! She was having a baby with the love of her life!
With tears of joy, Yan covered her face while she sobbed uncontrollably. She was just feeling nervous a moment ago. Now, it was all replaced with happiness, and all the negative emotions welled up inside her subsided. It was no wonder how people say that it was a blessing to be a mother. It was so true!
After staying for what seemed to be the longest time in the bathroom, Yan finally calmed herself down and returned to her room. Standing in front of the mirror, Yan could see her eyes were swollen from all the crying. She was ecstatic and couldn’t wait to break the news to Han Qing, but she was also skeptical about the accuracy of the results of a pregnancy test kit. So, she decided to go to hospital to have another checkup before announcing the results to anyone.
Even if the test results did come out positive, she doubted that she would tell Han Qing right away. She was afraid that once she told him about the pregnancy, he would feel pressured to marry her. As much as she wanted to marry Han Qing, she also wanted to be more cautious now—since it was her who took the first move in pursuing him and had her heart broken before.
The boldness she displayed at first had now shrunk into cowardice, resulting in her hesitating to take the next move… At last, she took up her phone and texted Han Muzi. ‘Muzi, are you free today? Can you accompany me to the hospital?’
