Han Muzi smiled as she nodded. “There’s nothing inappropriate about it. For both of us, it’s just a name; the surname doesn’t matter.”
Most people would care about their surnames, but for Ye Moxuan and Han Muzi, a pair who had suffered so much, fame and fortune were not worth mentioning in their books. She simply wished that their days would pass peacefully and safely; other things were unnecessary.
Glancing over at Ye Moxuan, she saw that his eyes held no opposition toward her suggestion. Instead, his eyes watched her with an indulgent smile. Thus, she discussed it with him, “Let Little Bean take on grandfather’s surname, then let Little Sprout take after your surname. What do you think?”
His entire body trembled at her words; he would be included, but she had nothing to show for it. Recalling how painful it was for her to give birth, he pursed his thin lips and was about to speak.
“My brother can carry on the Han surname. He and Yan have become a couple now; do we need to worry that there wouldn’t be any children with the Han surname?”
That’s true. Ye Moxuan finally felt relieved when he heard those words, and he smiled faintly.
“Besides, I think that Ye Yaya sounds nicer. Ye Yaya, Ye Yaya; isn’t it cute?”
“Alright, we’ll do as you say.” Although the couple had agreed, Old Master Yuchi wanted to respect Little Bean’s opinion as well. So, he bent down to ask, “What about you, Little Bean? What do you think? Will you take on my surname?”
Little Bean blinked his eyes and looked at his parents, then obediently nodded his head. Since his mommy didn’t mind, he had nothing to say about it. In the future, he just had to write extra letters in his name. Sigh.
Once it was decided, Old Master Yuchi was ecstatic. He used to think that he had to let his son-in-law marry into the family, but now that he had Little Bean, what else did he need? In the end, the conclusion was that Little Bean would follow after Old Master Yuchi’s surname while Little Sprout would follow after Ye Moxuan’s surname.
The changing of names was not something that could be done quickly. However, with the influence of Old Master Yuchi and Ye Moxuan, it was quickly settled after they found somebody to handle it.
When Yan learned about this matter, she was very surprised. “Is that possible?” It really was… a miracle.
As the dust settled, Han Muzi and the others returned to Seabay Villa. Old Master Yuchi was beyond happy that his trip back to the country had given him a great-grandson with the same surname as his. Thus, he spent every day with Little Bean or playing with Little Sprout.
Apart from her ability to sleep, Little Sprout would stare at the people playing with her with a pair of round eyes. After watching them, she would let out a silly laugh. The smile on her face was innocent and pure, yet for some reason, it made Han Muzi think of Little Bean’s words.
Refusing to go to a confinement center although she had to undergo confinement, she returned to the villa. Thus, Song An announced that she would help to take care of Han Muzi during her confinement as she was Ye Moxuan’s aunt. In the beginning, Han Muzi felt bad about it. However, after some consideration, she realized that both her parents and Ye Moxuan’s parents had passed. The only woman in the family they had left was Song An. Furthermore, she was well versed in medicine. So, she was the most suitable candidate to help out during the confinement.
Even so, she was only present during the day. When night came, she returned to her room to rest and left the baby in Han Muzi’s care. Ye Moxuan, who slept with her, helped to take care of the baby.
Still, her confinement period after giving birth to Little Sprout was much easier than her confinement period after giving birth to Little Bean. At that time, she had been distressed, so the days had passed without any color or life. However, seeing Ye Moxuan clumsily helping out with Little Sprout and diligently trying to calm himself down, she felt that the world was filled with all sorts of wonderful colors.
That night, Little Sprout started crying while Han Muzi was sleeping. She woke up instantly and started to force herself out of bed in her drowsy state. However, Ye Moxuan, who was sleeping next to her, reacted faster than she did. Getting out of bed, he carried Little Sprout and patted her back, trying to coax her to sleep. For some reason, she refused to go back to sleep; she was crying uncontrollably despite his cajoling.
Although Han Muzi was extremely tired and her eyelids threatened to close, she sat up and mumbled to him, “Maybe she’s hungry. Why don’t you bring her here?”
Helpless, he clumsily carried Little Sprout over to Han Muzi. Then, she tried to breastfeed Little Sprout, but the little girl refused to drink; she was crying non-stop for some reason. When a baby cried, they let out their voices without care, so her cries sounded especially loud in the silence of the night.
Ye Moxuan stared at Little Sprout for a bit, then turned around to go out.
“Where are you going?” Before he could take two steps, Han Muzi stopped him. After taking a look at his expression, she continued, “You can’t be thinking of looking for Aunty, right?”
She had hit the nail on the head. Brushing his nose, he said softly, “Maybe she knows better than we do.”
“Did you forget?”
“Hmm?”
“Aunty has never given birth to a child, nor raised one.”
Her words seemed to make sense, but… She was about to say something else when she caught a whiff of something strange. She had been focused on trying to breastfeed Little Sprout just now, so she had not noticed then. When she lowered her head, she smelled it suddenly. Coughing lightly, she said, “Little Sprout may have…”
She felt embarrassed, but in the next moment, she realized that Little Sprout was his child too. Why should I feel embarrassed? Therefore, she simply carried Little Sprout and got up. Seeing her getting up, he asked, “What needs to be done? Let me do it.”
“Um… I don’t think you know how to,” she gently explained.
He looked her deep in the eye. “I can learn.”
“Are you sure you want to learn?” She looked at him suspiciously. Truthfully, she felt that it was fine for him to learn; it did not seem like it would be an issue even if he was the one to do it. At that thought, she passed the crying baby back to him. He naturally took the baby in his arms.
“Hold her properly. Do you smell something weird?”
In reality, he had noticed the strange smell early on, but he did not think much of it. He merely felt that it was weird for the house to have such a strong odor, and decided to send for a servant to clean the house tomorrow. Now that it was pointed out to him, he was stunned for a few moments, then he came back to his senses.
“Do you mean?” An uncertain look flashed across his eyes.
The corners of her lips were lifted in a smile, then she waved her hand at him. “You said you wanted to learn, so I’ll leave it to you. Do your best!” Afterward, she quickly lay back down on the bed and left him standing there.
He held Little Sprout in his arms while the strange odor wafted around him. Standing still as if he had been struck by lightning, he didn’t move a single step.
Looking at Ye Moxuan in his stunned state, Han Muzi couldn’t help laughing quietly from where she lay on the bed. Imagining his reaction to the scene he was about to face, she nearly burst out laughing. However, now was not the time to laugh in the face of his troubles; she should at least wait until he finished dealing with the situation.
