Before Shen Qi could finish her sentence, Ye Moxuan glared at her coldly. “What nonsense is that? Do you think I’d inform my aunt of such news?”
Shen Qi lowered her eyes slowly when she heard that.
That’s right; I am not pregnant with Ye Moxuan’s child. This is a humiliation for any man, so how would he possibly talk about it?
Shen Qi felt her heart sink gradually.
“My wound is fine now. So I’ll be leaving,” uttered Shen Qi in a soft voice.
Ye Moxuan had no reason to make her stay, and so he nodded. “Mm-hmm.”
Shen Qi returned to her work desk, and her eyes were dull with sadness.
What was I thinking?
After that, Shen Qi got rid of those distracting thoughts and poured herself into her work, and soon, it was time to get off work.
Her mobile phone rang once it was time, and it was a text from Han Xueyou.
“Qi, my car is parked right in front of a supermarket, which isn’t too far away from your company. Just walk over later to meet me.”
“Sure.”
Shen Qi packed up her things and walked down the stairs with her bag.
Coincidentally, she bumped into Ye Moxuan and Xiao Su, who were both walking out of the office. Shen Qi pondered for a while, but she finally approached Ye Moxuan to speak with him. “Well… I won’t be going home with you tonight.”
Ye Moxuan cocked a brow at her when he heard that.
Shen Qi explained hastily, “I have to meet with Xueyou.”
Meeting that woman again? Ye Moxuan frowned at her. “Is she your friend?”
Shen Qi nodded hurriedly. “Mm-hmm, we have known each other for a very long time. I really am meeting her, not anyone else.”
She was afraid that Ye Moxuan would assume that she was meeting other men, and that was why she explained so earnestly, especially since she didn’t want to cause another misunderstanding when she got home.
Ye Moxuan regarded her for a moment, and he was especially pleased with the last part of her sentence because it felt as if she was afraid that he might misunderstand her, and that was why she was explaining herself. That means she cares what I think, after all.
“Alright.” Ye Moxuan pursed his lips. “Let Xiao Su accompany you.”
Shen Qi’s expression changed slightly when she heard that. “No, Xiao Su has to send you home, since your movements are restricted.”
Ye Moxuan’s lips curled into a smile while gazing at her. “Are you so worried about me?”
Shen Qi blushed slightly before replying to him, “Alright, then. I’ll get going.”
With that, she left hurriedly.
When she arrived downstairs, she realized that most people were avoiding her, and she figured it was most probably due to the incident in the afternoon, and they assumed that she was a scary person in general.
Shen Qi quickened her steps and walked toward the supermarket. True enough, she spotted Han Xueyou’s car once she arrived in front of the supermarket, and so she approached the car to knock against the car window. However, Han Xueyou seemed to be spacing out in the car and was deep in thought while ignoring Shen Qi completely.
Shen Qi was confused, and so she knocked on the car window again while calling out for her. “Xueyou?”
Han Xueyou continued to ignore her. What is on her mind?
Shen Qi had no choice but to rap against the car window while yelling loudly, and only then did Han Xueyou snap back to reality with a start. When she saw Shen Qi standing beside her car, she lowered the car window in a rush.
“Qi, you are here.”
“What’s up with you, spacing out in the car? I’ve arrived for quite some time now.” Shen Qi smiled sweetly at her before making her way to the other side to open the car door of the co-driver seat.
However, Han Xueyou spoke abruptly. “Don’t get in the car. Let’s head up to the third floor in the supermarket. There’s a dessert shop there.”
Dessert shop…
Shen Qi’s expression stiffened slightly when she heard that it was dessert.
“Don’t worry. It’s not just dessert; they have other food items as well.”
After getting out of the car, Han Xueyou pulled Shen Qi into the supermarket.
Shen Qi followed her to the dessert shop on the third floor. Han Xueyou ordered many delicious items, and after scanning the menu, Shen Qi ordered a freshly-squeezed fruit juice.
The two of them then settled down.
“I’m sorry. I wanted to visit you when you were in the hospital the other day, but you were still unconscious at that time, so I didn’t disturb you.”
Shen Qi was astonished at her comment because she only saw Ye Moxuan upon waking up that day, and she wasn’t aware that Han Xueyou visited her. Hence, Shen Qi was rather surprised when she learned about that.
“You were there that day too?”
“That’s right,” Han Xueyou replied with a nod. “My best friend has been admitted to the hospital, so it’s only natural that I have to visit her.”
Shen Qi answered with a laugh, “I know that you treat me the best.”
Han Xueyou admitted, “To be honest, I asked you out because I have something important to tell you.”
With that, Han Xueyou scanned their surroundings before going closer to Shen Qi and whispered to her, “We managed to contact the designer.”
Shen Qi’s initially calm façade turned into that of a shocked expression. Coincidentally, a server arrived with a glass of fruit juice, and Shen Qi stood up abruptly and knocked into the server by accident.
Crash!
“Ah, I’m sorry!”
The glass shattered on the floor and broke into pieces, and the red watermelon juice was splattered all over Shen Qi’s clothes.
The server thought that she was at fault, and she was so scared that she started to apologize profusely. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. It was an accident.”
Han Xueyou’s expression soured, and she stood up. “What is wrong with you? Why can’t you do your job well?”
Shen Qi tugged against Han Xueyou’s sleeve and reassured the server with a soft voice, “It’s alright. I was the one who stood up too abruptly, so it was not your fault. Can you please hand me some paper towels?”
The server was stunned for a moment before bobbing her head earnestly. She then left swiftly to bring back a stack of paper towels for Shen Qi, and when she was back, she was accompanied by the shop owner, who started apologizing to Shen Qi as well.
“Miss, I’m so sorry. The server is still new to the job, and so she isn’t the most skillful. I’m sorry that your clothes are soiled now. How about this—both your meals today shall be on the house; that’s the least we could do as an apology from us to you.”
Shen Qi’s dress was a gift from Ye Moxuan. The shop owner had keen eyes, so she knew immediately that the dress was costly.
Besides, everything on Han Xueyou was from designer brands, and so the shop owner did not have the audacity to offend them. Hence, she could only rush forward and apologize to them.
Han Xueyou blinked several times before asking her, “Are you trying to get rid of us just by giving us a free meal? Should my friend’s dress be ruined just like that?”
The shop owner’s expression changed slightly, and she asked, “Miss, how do you suggest we handle this?”
“I’m sorry!” The server came forward and apologized to Shen Qi once again. “I honestly did not do that on purpose, so please, forgive me this time.”
Shen Qi tried wiping the watermelon juice from her dress with the paper towels, and she looked up when she heard that. “Didn’t I say that it was my fault? Xueyou, don’t trouble them further.”
Han Xueyou snorted. “I’m just trying to get justice on your behalf. Look at her—she can’t even serve with steady hands. Are you planning to forgive her and let her get away with an apology and some free dessert? How much could the dessert cost? Hmph.”
“I really am sorry.”
“It’s fine. You guys go ahead with your work,” Shen Qi reassured them.
“Thank you so much.” The server gazed at Shen Qi with immense gratitude.
Once they left, Han Xueyou couldn’t stop herself. “What is wrong with you? Look at the state of your dress. How can you let things go so easily?”
“I was at fault,” explained Shen Qi softly. “I was excited earlier, and that was why I knocked into her when I stood up just now. If we were to be technical about things, I was the one who broke their glass.”
Han Xueyou snorted and stopped chatting with her.
However, Han Xueyou thought of something suddenly as she smiled at Shen Qi with narrowed eyes. “Why were you so excited? Were you excited because you managed to find that man?”
Shen Qi paused before replying, “Don’t talk nonsense.”
Han Xueyou squinted at her. “To be honest, you’re trying to leave Ye Moxuan as soon as possible because you can’t stand him, aren’t you?”
I’m leaving Ye Moxuan as soon as possible because I can’t stand him?
