“Little Bean’s uncle’s house?” Luo Huimei was wondering who Little Bean’s uncle was… She was good at reading people; by combining the information she had gathered recently, along with Yan’s awkward tone of voice, she had an inkling of who he was. Still, she wasn’t certain. Thus, she continued, “Then, what will you do tonight?”
“Mom… please stop asking. My heart is a mess right now, I’ll explain when I get home tomorrow, okay?”
Her daughter was her precious treasure. When she heard Yan speaking to her in such an aggrieved tone, her heart melted. Before she could agree to it, Mr. Zhou, who was next to her, spoke out first, “Yan, have a good rest. If anything happens, you have to let us know. Don’t be afraid to tell us, okay?”
“Okay.”
After ending the call, she glared at him. “I had not agreed to it yet, so why were you so anxious to agree? Do you know who Little Bean’s uncle is? Although we get along very well with Little Bean, who is to say what kind of person his uncle is? How can you be so trusting?”
Mr. Zhou countered with a solemn expression, “Of course, I trust him. Little Bean was brought up so well; it’s difficult to be so well-taught if there is an unsavory element in their family. More importantly, Yan trusts him. As her father, I naturally trust him too.”
Tsk. At least the last sentence was the truth. At first, they were worried because Yan had gone out with Li Sihan. Thinking that she had been threatened to say that she was fine, they frantically came out with all sorts of hidden signals. Who could have expected her to tear apart their story, and with a touch of frustration in her voice too? Afterward, she even mentioned that Li Sihan should be in the hospital by now and that she was currently at Little Bean’s uncle’s house. While she was explaining, the tone of her voice had fluctuated greatly. Seeing as she was willingly staying there, and it was with no other than Little Bean’s uncle, they did not need to pursue it further.
…
After hanging up the call, Yan noticed that her phone was running out of battery. There was nothing she could do; she had been using it for the whole day. Moreover, Luo Huimei had made a lot of calls to her phone which emptied her battery in a flash. Luckily, there was still a bit left. After letting them know that she was safe, she held her phone in her hand and looked around at the space surrounding her.
Before this, she was still quite afraid. However, the incident that followed after had been so dream-like that it had overwritten the scary incident. She walked out hesitantly. The slippers on her feet did not fit her, so it was hard to control when she walked. Furthermore, it made a noise with every step, sounding absurdly loud in the quietness of the night. Embarrassed, she tried her best to curl her toes up and walk without making too much noise.
Pushing open the bedroom door, she saw the corridor was brightly lit, but there was no one there. The house was huge, and so was the corridor. Yet, she could not find a glimpse of Han Qing no matter where she looked. She didn’t know where he had gone, but she did not want to stay here alone. Thus, she walked forward with difficulty to look for him.
When she rounded the corner, a white cat sprang out at her from behind the corner and leaped past her. Due to the sudden appearance of a cat rushing toward her, she almost jumped out of her skin from fear and reflexively took a step back.
However, as the slippers were too big for her feet, she could not step back in time and she fell backward onto the floor. In the silence of the night, the hair on her body stood up straight and her heart drummed wildly in her chest. At the same time, a large hand latched onto her arm suddenly. Yan screamed in fright and was about to push the person away when a clear but familiar male voice rang out from behind her. “It’s me.”
This… is Han Qing’s voice. It was a voice that made her feel at ease. Hesitating slightly, she turned around and threw herself into his arms; she hugged him tightly and buried her face in his embrace, refusing to let go.
When the young lady threw herself at him, he was stunned. Then, he felt her soft cheek brush against his. His heart felt as if something had rammed into it; it became as soft as it can be. However, Han Qing quickly noticed that the young lady was trembling uncontrollably in his arms as if she had just experienced a huge scare. His eyes darkened considerably as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder. Then, he glanced to the side at the culprit that had frightened her so.
“Sky, why are you going around scaring people in the middle of the night instead of sleeping?” Sky was the cat—a purebred Ragdoll. It sat there listening to him reprimand it—almost as if it could understand his words. Then, it tilted its head to the side and meowed softly.
“Meow~” It was a gentle cry, almost sounding as if it was trying to get on her good side; it seemed to be saying, ‘I was in the wrong.’
Yan was curled up in Han Qing’s embrace. When she heard the cat’s cry, she was stunned. Releasing her death-grip slightly, she sneaked a glance at the source of the sound while still in his arms. Was the white shadow that ran past me just now this cat? Sky, the Ragdoll cat, sat there. When its eyes met with hers, it blinked, then meowed cutely again.
“Meow-meow.” It sounded like it was greeting her.
She had been extremely frightened just now. At the time, she had only caught a glimpse of a white shadow rushing toward her. Since she was already frightened, she immediately lost control and fell backward onto the cold floor. Now, she realized that the thing that had scared her so badly was just a cat. Once she came back to her senses, she felt extremely embarrassed. The little Ragdoll cat in front of her was very cute; its fur was smooth and clean, and it looked very vulnerable.
“It’s usually very well-behaved. Perhaps it noticed a stranger in the house tonight, so it came out to take a look. Were you hurt from your fall?”
Now that he mentioned it, falling in that position hurt a lot. However, she didn’t dare to say that in front of him. Shaking her head vigorously, she looked at the cat. “Sky?”
“Meow?” Sky tilted its head to the side. ‘Are you calling me?’
Its cute look made Yan relax and her emotions unwound slightly. She asked, “Can I pet it?”
“Sure. Sky is well-behaved.”
Therefore, she slowly walked toward Sky, then she crouched down and lightly rubbed its round head. It was soft and comfortable to touch—almost like touching cotton candy. Unable to help herself, she continued to pet it.
“Meow-meow.” Sky seemed to enjoy it and began to purr softly.
Yan had always liked cats. When Han Muzi and Little Bean had given shelter to the mixed breed little orange cats on the ground floor of their neighborhood, she had especially spoiled that little family of four. If not for their trip abroad and other ongoing matters, she would have liked to adopt them.
It so happened that a few young girls in the company had heard that she was looking for people to adopt the cats, so they had adopted them in her place. Only the big orange cat was still being kept in the company. That big orange cat had a human-like personality; it did not run about wildly while staying in the company. Later, Han Muzi had brought it back to Seabay Villa when she returned.
After that, Yan did not have another cat again. She did not expect Han Qing to have a cat here; based on his appearance, he did not look like somebody who would own a cat.
“Meow-meow!” Sky suddenly reached out its two front paws and seemed to be asking Yan for a hug.
