Li Sihan finally understood why Yan had unexpectedly invited him out for dinner. It turned out that she had decided to put all her cards on the table. His expression turned sour. “Careful? Hasn’t everything been going well?”
“Yeah, but…” Yan did not know how to explain and simply told him, “I’m sorry, Mr. Li, but this is just part of dating. If it doesn’t feel right, then we should end it right away.” She did not want to beat around the bush and decided to be straightforward with him so that he would understand.
Li Sihan lost his desire to eat. His perfect dream had crumbled in a matter of seconds. A moment ago, he was just thinking of how he would live the rest of his days without a care in the world. Who knew she would end things with him instead? “Is it because of that guy from yesterday?”
Her expression changed. She shook her head and denied, “No.”
“No? Then why does it seem like it to me? The both of you were shooting glances at each other at the table in front of me yesterday. Did you think I wouldn’t notice? You just met him yesterday, and now you’re saying you want to end it with me. Are you still denying it?”
Yan did not respond.
“Here, I’ll tell you what. I’ll forget about whatever happened between the two of you. Let’s find an auspicious date to register our marriage and have the wedding.”
Register our marriage? Her face turned pale and she rejected his proposal, “Sorry, I don’t like you. I can’t marry you.”
Regardless of what he said, she was still adamant about ending things with him. Seeing his perfect dream shatter and be rendered hopeless, he immediately became flustered. “I guess what Little Bean said was true. You were living with that man even before getting married. I’ve seen many gold diggers like you who run to rich men the moment you lay eyes on them. You were holding onto your rich husband while keeping me as a backup. You’re so cheap, Zhou Xiaoyan.” His voice was loud and it attracted the attention of many around them. Almost everyone was looking at them.
Yan froze in her spot, but she quickly realized that he was flustered and was trying to embarrass her. Nevertheless, he had underestimated her level of tolerance. Except for the people that she cared about, she did not mind even if everyone else looked at her strangely. She grabbed her purse and got up. “Anyway, I’ve made things clear with you. I apologize. I still have business to attend to at the shop so I’ll get going now.”
She walked straight to the counter and got the check. Once she was out of the restaurant, she was going to call for a taxi when Li Sihan suddenly rushed over and grabbed her wrist and pulled her to a corner. “You wench! How dare you cheat on me? We’ll see how I deal with you today.”
The guy in glasses who looked reserved and put together before was now gone. At that moment, Li Sihan looked like a wild beast. With red eyes, he dragged her to a secluded area.
“Let me go! What are you doing? Help—”
Slap! Just as she screamed, a slap went across her face then he put a hand over her mouth. “You still dare to scream?” After he scolded her, he looked at the people around them and shouted, “What are you looking at? You’ve never seen a husband hit his wife? This woman cheated on me. So what if I teach her a lesson?”
Even though there were many curious onlookers, they were too afraid to do anything and went away as soon as they heard him. After that, Yan was dragged to the side into a small alley.
“You wench. I should’ve known you were a woman with no morals. Why did I even bother to put up an act? I’ll just get you pregnant and see if you’re still unwilling to marry me then.” Immediately, he tugged at her hand and tore her clothes off, ignoring her attempts to fight back. When he saw her snow-white skin before him, a look of yearning flashed across his eyes and he growled before lunging at her.
“No! Let go of me—” She became desperate as she realized she was not able to overcome his strength.
Thud! The next moment, he was flung to the back, and his body hit against the wall that was not too far away. He let out a groan then fell to the ground. Han Qing had appeared out of nowhere and sent Li Sihan flying with just one kick.
Unable to get up from the pain, Li Sihan lay on the ground and cradled his own body as he cried out. However, that was not enough to satisfy Han Qing. His presence was menacing as he took one step after the other toward Li Sihan. “Do you want to die?” he asked and stepped on Li Sihan’s fingers forcefully.
After Li Sihan let out a blood-curdling scream, he realized the hand Han Qing was stepping on was also the same hand he used to tear off Yan’s clothes earlier. Looking at the terrifying man in front of him, Li Sihan eventually realized that he had messed with someone out of his league and quickly begged for mercy, “I’ve made a mistake. Please show me mercy. I’ve made a mistake. I was wrong. Please spare my life. If I die, you’ll have to pay for it too.”
In reply, he got an excruciating pain in his other hand too. Han Qing must have broken something, as Li Sihan ended up losing consciousness.
Yan was shocked senseless, but she was still able to think. She squatted down after being saved then soon realized the person who saved her was Han Qing. She did not expect him to have done all of that. It was the first time she had seen him that way. He was supercilious and his presence was nothing but hostile. He looked like he was about to take Li Sihan’s life as he did not stop even after Li Sihan had passed out.
It was Li Sihan’s last sentence, ‘If I die, you’ll have to pay for it too’, that brought Yan back to her senses. She selflessly rushed forward and pulled Han Qing back. “Stop hitting him. If you keep hitting him, he might actually die.”
“He deserves to die.”
Han Qing went on as Yan tried with all her might to pull him back. When she was not able to do so, she collapsed and cried, “Stop hitting him. I don’t want you to go to prison!”
Her cries brought Han Qing back to his senses. He stood where he was and stopped what he was doing. Then, he slowly turned around and saw Yan crying uncontrollably. His grim expression was filled with restraint. “Okay. I won’t.” He then took off his blazer and wrapped it around her tightly.
Since she had sobbed so hard, she was unable to stop her tears from flowing. As she hyperventilated, Han Qing bent down and wiped her tears away. He looked at her red eyes and swollen face for a while, then proceeded to carry her in both of his arms.
Once she was placed gently in the car, she reached out to grab his sleeve. “Um… Is he going to die?”
Han Qing turned cold. “He won’t.”
“Really? Should we at least call an ambulance for him?”
Han Qing looked at Yan who was still sobbing. “I-I’m just worried…”
“I know what you’re worried about. I’ll get someone to deal with this.”
After Yan was reassured, she felt at ease.
“Let’s get you to the hospital.”
“No, I don’t want to go to the hospital.” She shook her head violently then looked at him with her red eyes. “I-I’m not in pain. I don’t need to go to the hospital.” She did not ever want anyone to see her in that messy state with her clothes all torn off.
