She’s not willing to listen to my explanation about that night. I won’t talk about it then. But there is something she still needs to know.
Stepping forward, Han Qing grabbed Yan’s wrist and started pulling her toward his car without giving her any time to react. His strong grip on her hand was hurting her a fair bit. She struggled, but his iron grip made it impossible for her to break free.
Very quickly, he pulled her to his car. When she saw him open the door, she stood there and was reluctant to go in.
“Do you still not want to know even if it’s about that person you went on a blind date with?”
That person I went on a blind date with? Li Sihan? She frowned as she looked at him. “What do you mean by that?”
“Get in the car if you want to find out.”
Is he threatening me? Yan stared at him with her big eyes. After thinking for a moment, she got in the car. What’s the big deal? Who’s scared of whom?
When she was finally in the car, he let out a sigh and got in the driver’s seat too. Once they were both inside, Yan sat still in her seat, sulking. She ignored him even when he told her to put on her seatbelt, so he did not have a choice but to put it on for her.
But just as his hand crossed in front of her, she spat out, “What about Li Sihan? Hurry up and tell me now. I’ll get out of the car once I hear it, so you don’t have to put on my seatbelt for me.”
When she finished speaking, his hand was already on the seatbelt. His icy gaze fell on her and, with an even colder tone, he said, “I promised your mother I would get you home safely.”
“That’s your promise, not mine.” Not wanting to see him, she turned away with eyes full of detest. “If you have something to say, then say it. If you don’t, then I’ll leave now.”
Her attitude put him at a loss. His tone softened. “You’re really not putting on your seatbelt or letting me take you home?”
She was stubborn and adamant. “Yes.”
The inside of the car fell silent. He did not see a way to convince her, so he just pulled his hand back. A moment later, he handed her a piece of document. When Yan heard the sound of paper rustling, she looked over and saw that he had handed her a document. She started to feel perplexed.
“What is this?” she questioned instead of taking the piece of paper. What does this have to do with Li Sihan?
“It’s Li Sihan’s information.”
“You looked into him?”
Han Qing glanced at her then looked away as he said, “Do you even know what kind of person he is? Or what he did? Shouldn’t you have known before you started dating him?”
His words… It was true that Yan did not know much about Li Sihan. It was only because Mrs. Zhang had introduced him to her, and because she was sulking at the time, that she decided to go on a blind date with him. However, it did not mean that she was going to marry him. If she did not have any feelings for him when they dated, then she would end it. Besides, people usually got to know each other slowly as they dated.
She looked at him coldly. “Of course I do. Why would I meet him if I didn’t know? Is there anything more this document can tell me?”
Han Qing was speechless. Yan loathed him indeed. She was even lying because of her anger toward him. If she knew the truth, why did she still go and meet the guy? Furthermore, her parents would not have allowed it either.
Nonetheless, she had no intention of looking at the document. Han Qing pursed his lips and simply said, “Did you know that he has been to prison before because he conned a woman of her money?”
That caught Yan off guard, and she was stunned. “What did you say?”
Went to prison? Yan did not see that coming. Even though she did feel like something was off about Li Sihan, she did not think that he was someone who had committed a crime and went to prison for it. She did not even consider that possibility. But now that Han Qing broke the news to her, she was dumbfounded and felt her face start to burn up. She did not know much about her date and actually had to hear this from Han Qing.
Lookie there, your date has such poor character but you still treat him so preciously. For the sake of getting on Han Qing’s bad side, you dated someone you didn’t know anything about. How ridiculous of you, Yan!
Her hands that were on her thighs tightened even more. Her mind had stopped working, and she was not able to get herself out of the situation. No matter what Han Qing did from that point on, she would find herself extremely ridiculous.
“Little Bean was the first one who noticed something was not right. For safety reasons, I felt like there was a need to look into him.” His manly voice resounded in the car. To Yan, it seemed like an act of charity. She clenched and unclenched her fists a few times before finally looking up at Han Qing. “So?”
Without saying a word, Han Qing pursed his lips and looked at her as he waited for her to continue.
“So what if he’s been to prison before?”
He frowned. “Do you know what you’re saying?”
“Of course I do.” Yan smiled at him. She quickly leaned into him until their eyes, noses, and breaths were extremely close to each other. With a taunting expression, she went on, “Are you trying to tell me that even Little Bean sensed something, but I didn’t? That I’m so stupid that I can’t get any worse than this?”
Seeing Yan up close like that, Han Qing did not know what he was feeling. When she suddenly leaned into him, he felt the bottom of his heart quiver slightly. But when she said those taunting words, the little bit of emotion he had was wiped clean. He, who was always reserved, was wavering because of one young lady.
“You know that’s not what I meant.”
“I’m not interested in what you meant. Didn’t I tell you before? I won’t get involved with you from now on. I also told you not to look for me anymore because I don’t want to see you.” Each one of her words pierced into Han Qing’s heart.
“And one more thing. Even if my partner has gone to prison before, that is still my problem. Since I don’t want to see you now, that means my problems have nothing to do with you. You don’t have to care. Even if I meet a murderer in the future, that has not the tiniest bit to do with you.” The more she spoke, the colder her smile turned. He’s funny. He obviously doesn’t like me, and even hates me, but he still went and did something like this. What is up with him? Was it an act of pity? Do I look like a beggar to him? Someone who would run to him at his command and hide in a corner if he pushes me away?
It was only now that she realized how short-tempered and petty she was. She was not the least bit capable of dealing with all of this.
“Don’t be stubborn.” Han Qing frowned as he listened to her.
