Thinking about it, Su Jiu let out a sigh inwardly. If yesterday didn’t turn out as he had wished, then… Her suspicions were confirmed when Yan still hadn’t showed up at the company by noon. The person whom he is waiting for hasn’t come. Looks like he didn’t handle yesterday’s incident well and instead, it became worse?
Su Jiu couldn’t help but think of the possible reasons. That day, after she questioned the receptionist, she felt that the receptionist wasn’t lying when the latter told her about the conversation between them. Su Jiu also felt that judging from Yan’s lively personality, the latter wouldn’t be angered by the words of those women. Even if she was really angered by them, it had nothing to do with Han Qing because it was the women’s fault.
Although Su Jiu wasn’t that close with Yan, they had still known each other for so long, so she knew that the latter wouldn’t be simply angered. If I exclude that possibility, then the only reason stems from that night at the party.
Su Jiu had sent Yan to the party that night, but she never exactly left afterward as she found a place to hide and only left after Han Qing came to pick Yan up. As Su Jiu observed the scene, she even felt that he was jealous and thought, Maybe these two will be together in a few days’ time. That would be nice, though. Han Qing has been single for so long that it’s time for him to get a girl.
However, no one expected that it would end up like this after just one night. So, the question is, what actually happened that night? She couldn’t figure it out even after thinking about it. What happened that night that caused their relationship to be soured?
She knocked on Han Qing’s office door in the evening.
“Come in.” Han Qing’s voice was cold and devoid of any emotions.
Su Jiu pushed the door open and came to the front of his desk, continuously saying to him while flipping through the documents in her hands, “About the river project, I feel that there are some mistakes, so—”
“You decide.” Before she could finish, Han Qing interrupted her while tapping his fingertips on the desk impatiently.
This was the first time that she saw him being impatient to the point where he was unwilling to listen to what others had to say. It seems as though this situation is really serious. Then, she slammed the document shut. “President Han, I know I don’t have the right to question you about your private life, but your actions for the past two days have seriously affected your work. So I have to ask you this, what happened?”
As soon as she mentioned this, he frowned his brows as if he was in a foul mood, but he didn’t burst into rage in the end. Instead, he said to her coldly, “Get out.”
Su Jiu stood there with a faint smile across her lips. “President Han, I’m a woman too. I should be able to understand from a woman’s perspective. Why don’t you tell me the situation? Maybe I can help you?”
Hearing her words, his heart twitched as his vague eyes swept across her face. She’s right. They are all girls, so maybe she would understand better. But… Han Qing’s eyes darkened as his voice sounded exhausted. “Get out.”
Su Jiu was rendered speechless because she thought that she could persuade him, but he rejected her offer in the end. “Fine. Since you want to be so stubborn, you can continue with it. However, I’m still your secretary, so I need to obey your command every time. If you have anything you need, you may look for me anytime.” When she exited his office, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the direction of the office. Serves you right for being single.

When Xiao Su came to the shop, he saw that Yan wasn’t in good spirits and decided to ask her about it, but she continuously insisted that she was fine. She even told him not to come in the future. As such, he remained silent before asking the other people what had happened in his absence.
The girls who worked in the shop didn’t know much about it, therefore, they only told him what had recently happened. After they were done sharing, Xiao Su stayed silent for a while.
“Mr. Xiao, you always come to help out at the shop a lot. Is it because you like our Miss Yan?” A girl took the courage to ask.
After being asked, Xiao Su was startled for a moment before nodding with conviction.
“Really? I knew that Mr. Xiao likes Miss Yan, but they don’t believe me. However, Mr. Xiao, I don’t think Miss Yan…”
He smiled faintly. “Are you trying to say that she doesn’t like me?”
The girl nodded hesitantly, but she quickly followed up afterward, “No, that’s not what I meant. Mr. Xiao, I believe you can get Miss Yan if you just work harder, really!”
“Really?” Xiao Su’s tone was a bit sorrowful. “I hope so too.” Sadly, there wasn’t much time left for him. Will my situation with Yan end once Young Lady Ye delivers her child?
Xiao Su was about to leave again in the afternoon and his departure would be for about half a month, so he looked for Yan to say his goodbyes. After she learnt about it, she nodded indifferently. “All the best for your trip.”
Her apathetic look soured his heart as he smiled gently. “Since I’m leaving for a long time, things may be different when I return. Before I go, can I get a hug?”
A hug? Yan gazed at the warm dashing man in a daze. Even though she had rejected him, his eyes were still filled with vague warmth for her. It was as if he never seemed to blame her for anything. She opened her mouth and shoved the word ‘no’ down her throat. Then, she nodded.
“Thank you.” Seeing her nodding, Xiao Su took a huge step forward and hugged her with both his arms. His body was huge as he wrapped his arms around her. She felt her face leaning against a warm, strong chest and his powerful heartbeat that came afterward. It came to her one beat at a time—as if it collided with her face. His hug was quite warm and it contained an aura exclusive to him, completely engulfing her.
However, she knew that she shouldn’t cling onto him for too long, so she moved and tried to break free after a moment of exchanging hugs. When she started to struggle, the arms that held her shoulder moved down to her waist and hugged her tightly.
“Um,” Yan gently groaned as she was unable to react.
His hands branded on her like a burning iron and they tightened again, causing her to lose her breath. Xiao Su suddenly released her before smiling at her. Then, he gently rubbed her head with his hand. “I’m sorry. I got carried away just now.”
Yan remained silent. You are leaving now, so what else can I say? I can only accept it quietly. “Forget it. I won’t fuss about it. Be safe on your way.”
Xiao Su opened his mouth and tried to say those three words, but couldn’t find the voice to say it. He eventually said to her resignedly, “Alright, I’ll leave now.”
Yan wasn’t sure whether what she thought was the result of her illusion or not. Why do I feel that the three words he was trying to say were… ‘wait for me’?
