Yan was much more heartless today when compared with last time at the party. When she faced him, she was no longer restless and nervous. Mockery filled his eyes yet she stared straight at it without any fear. It was good for her to be this way, but the words that came out of her mouth wasn’t what Han Qing wanted to hear.
He kept his eyebrows furrowed while the aura around him was in a calm state before he took a step forward. “Please listen to what I have to say. About that night, I can explain.”
As soon as he mentioned that night, her face changed drastically. Suddenly, she remembered the scene where she stupidly closed her eyes to wait for his kiss, but he pushed away ruthlessly when she opened her eyes. At that time, he must have seen my look. He must have felt that I was stupid! Even as she thought about it now, she felt that she was stupid and disgusting.
At this point, she started to feel disgusted about herself inside. If I end up entangling myself with him again today, I won’t be able to live with myself. As the thought came to her mind, Yan said with an indifferent face, “President Han, you don’t need to explain yourself. I can see the truth clearly.”
Han Qing gazed at her with his clear eyes. “I drank too much that night, so—”
“Enough!” She instantly reached out to cover both of her ears and took a few steps back while becoming emotionally unstable. Her eyes were wide open as tears shone in them. “I just said that you don’t need to explain it. I can see it clearly. What else do you want?”
Her reaction caught him off guard as he stood there with his eyebrows frowning even more. Ever since that night, he had always wanted to find the opportunity to explain to her, but she never came to him. Now, he went to her and even waited for a day, but she didn’t want to hear his explanation.
Yan continued to cover her ears while shouting, “I didn’t know better back then, so I’ve constantly pestered you. But, I promise you from now on that I will never let it happen again. If you really think that I’ve crossed the line, please let me go for you and your sister’s sake!” As soon as she finished shouting, she ran off without waiting for his reaction. He never tried to stop her because of her unstable emotions.
Meanwhile, Luo Huimei stood aside and waited. Usually, she would never poke her ears into what young people spoke with each other, but she was curious and worried, so she quietly took a few steps toward them to eavesdrop. However, after she took a few steps, her daughter suddenly became agitated and shouted, which almost caused the former’s heart to burst.
It wasn’t long before she witnessed her daughter’s emotional breakdown. Yan covered her ears while screaming loudly at the man, drawing the attention of passersby. As soon as Yan finished her words, she immediately ran away.
At the moment, even if Luo Huimei felt that he was sincere by waiting for her daughter the entire day, he still had angered Yan. Therefore, Luo Huimei decided to ignore him and chased after Yan without even looking at him.
Yan was so agitated that she ran far away before she was out of breath and losing her energy, so she stopped. She bent over beside the road while taking deep breaths, as if she lacked oxygen. Afterward, Luo Huimei caught up to her and panted beside her. “Oh my God. You are really tiring me to death, Yan. Are you fine?”
Listening to Luo Huimei, Yan realized that she lost control of herself for a man in front of her own mother. She was startled before turning her head sideways to look at her mother blankly.
“Don’t be sad.” Luo Huimei revealed a slight smile. Then, she reached out to help Yan up before gently wiping off the tears from the corners of the latter’s eyes. “It’s nothing and I don’t blame you for how you acted just now. We can’t control our emotions most of the time. Let’s go home now, alright?”
Initially, Yan had tears in her eyes because she was emotional, but she felt aggrieved after hearing Luo Huimei’s words. At the start, she only pouted her lips to stop herself from crying. Afterward, she bit her lower lip— the gentle force grew gradually to a point where blood spilled from her lip. However, it still couldn’t heal the grief inside of her, so her tears eventually poured out in the end.
“Come, let’s go home first.” Luo Huimei wrapped her arms around her daughter’s shoulder and they walked forward like sisters.
During the night, after Yan was done with her chores, she revealed a pale smile at Luo Huimei, who had stayed by the former’s side all these while. “Mom, you don’t need to wait for me. You can head home and have a rest.”
“Are you sure? Will you be fine alone?”
“I’m not a kid anymore. Even if you don’t help me with these things, I still can manage it myself. Don’t worry. It’s late now, so you should quickly head back and prepare to sleep. Don’t waste any more time.” Although Yan’s heart felt like it had been stabbed with a knife, she still wouldn’t want to see her mother being exhausted because of her, especially when it was about something as trivial as her relationship. It would become a joke if everyone knew about it.
“Fine, you need to have a good rest too. If anything happens, just shout for me next door, alright?”
“Okay.”
Luo Huimei finally left, so Yan lay on the bed in a daze while observing the white ceiling above. A while later, she rolled her body and switched off the desk lamp on the bedside table. The room sank into darkness, with her watery eyes being the only bright light under the dim moonlight.
The sun came up as usual on the next day. When Yan went out and walked past the square, she saw the aunties dancing at the square being as enthusiastic as ever. As she rushed to the station, she realized that the big screen on the tall building now featured a celebrity advertisement. The sky remained the same. No matter what happens, the Earth is still turning. It doesn’t matter how sad I am because I still need to welcome a new day so that I can earn enough money to pay off my debt.
When she approached the ramen shop, she stopped at a place, remembering what happened last night. It was here that he waited for me the whole day.
In many people’s eyes, he might have been sincere, but his actions had hurt Yan’s heart and she no longer wanted to demean herself. Thinking about it, she took a deep breath before opening her business for the day.
…
At Han Group, after President Han rescheduled all of his appointments yesterday and went out the whole day without returning, Su Jiu could only try to complete all of her work before arranging an even more packed schedule for him today. However, she felt that something was wrong with him early in the morning. He was in such a bad mood that it was frightening. When someone tried to talk to him, he would stand there with a dark face while being silent, which made others feel depressed.
She rubbed her nose as she tried to stay far away from him. Then, she gazed at his back. Having been his secretary for so many years, how could she not know the reason why Han Qing went out yesterday? However, by the looks of his current self, it seemed as though yesterday didn’t turn out in the way he wished for.
