Ah! Why didn’t he return it back to me? If I’m not mistaken, he placed the medicine in the same pocket as my phone. So why would he remember to give my medicines back to me, but not my phone? Thinking about it made Yan gloomy, but there was no other way as he had already left. Therefore, she used his house phone to make a call to Luo Huimei.
After Luo Huimei heard that Yan was returning home earlier, the former instantly noticed that something was wrong. “What is it? Why would you suddenly return home earlier? Are you feeling uncomfortable, Yan?”
“No, Mom. I’m just a bit tired after shopping around outside and the stores were exceptionally noisy, so I wanted to secretly return to have a nap. You don’t have a problem with it, right?” Yan stuck her tongue out toward the phone to grimace while replying to her mother. However, agony happened after she grimaced because she accidentally tore her wound and the subsequent pain forced her to take in a cold breath.
“Yan, what’s happened to you?” Luo Huimei heard the way Yan inhaled.
Yan quickly explained, “It’s nothing. I’ve accidentally hit the table with my foot. The pain is killing me…”
“You little girl, you’re already a grown up now, but you still can’t be careful and now, you’ve kicked the table. Isn’t this something only a kid would do?” Luo Huimei nagged about her daughter on the phone.
“Ugh, Mom, didn’t I say it was accidental? You can stop nagging at me now or else my ears are going to swell up. Alright. I’m really tired now, so I’m going to sleep. I can’t chat with you anymore.”
“Fine. A brat like you only knows how to slack off after opening a shop. Luckily, your dad and I are still young enough to deal with this. If we were any older, we might need to retire early because of you.”
“Hehe. You and dad are the best. I love you all! Alright. I really can’t talk much longer. Bye-bye.” With that, Yan swiftly ended the call and exhaled a sigh of relief before wobbling her way to her room. After she changed her clothes, she lay down and had a rest. As she closed her eyes, all she could see in her mind was what happened in the room.
The man with the cigarette grabbed her hair as he dragged her into the room. In the end, he even gave her a slap that blurred her mind. Damn it, how could there be such a violent person? It all feels like a nightmare.
As she thought about it, she entered her dream. In the end, all she dreamt of were scenes of her being abused and beaten up. However, in the dream, no one came to save her while the person pulled her hair and shirt. There were all kinds of injuries on her and she screamed so much that her voice became hoarse, yet no one came to save her. “No. No… Don’t do this to me! Don’t come near me…”
“Yan, it’s mom here. You need to wake up now.” Luo Huimei sat beside the bed, feeling heartbroken upon the sight of her daughter having a nightmare. She gently shook Yan’s shoulders in an attempt to wake the latter up. Her daughter seemed to be possessed because she just couldn’t wake up—no matter how hard Luo Huimei called her. Yan’s situation intensified instead as she continued to cry and scream for help.
“Yan, it’s just a dream,” Luo Huimei assured her daughter. “You need to wake up.”
Then, Yan screamed before she finally opened her eyes. The moment she opened her eyes, the horrifying imageries in her dream faded all at once and was replaced by her warm and bright bedroom. The disgusting faces and voices around her were gone and she saw a kind and worried face in front of her.
“Mom!” Her first reaction was to sit up and hug Luo Huimei tightly, but she couldn’t restrain herself from bursting into tears.
Luo Huimei was completely startled by this. Ever since Yan became an adult, she rarely cried in front of her mother. Her daughter never expressed her sadness and woes in front of her parents, even though she was a bit temperamental and stubborn.
It was because of Yan’s personality that showed how well Luo Huimei understood her. When Luo Huimei received Yan’s call earlier, the former already felt that something was wrong and discussed it with Mr. Zhou before returning home alone to have a look. Luo Huimei only breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that her daughter’s shoes were really here upon returning home. Therefore, she went to Yan’s room and noticed that she was asleep. Luo Huimei initially thought that she was imagining things, but saw the swelling on her daughter’s face upon closer inspection.
After seeing the injuries, Luo Huimei instantly became angry. When she was about to rush out and call Mr. Zhou, she suddenly heard Yan’s screams. It looks like Yan is having a nightmare. By analyzing her reaction from the beginning, Luo Huimei was almost certain that her daughter was being bullied.
Yan cried for a long time, but suddenly stopped crying halfway and wiped off her tears. Then, she glanced with reddened eyes at Luo Huimei. “Mom, why are you back all of a sudden?”
Upon listening to Yan, Luo Huimei spoke with a broken heart, “How could I not be back after my daughter just cried like that? Are you planning on keeping it away from me if I didn’t return? You little girl, I’m your mom and I’ve raised you for so long. How could you not tell me that you’re hurt?”
Yan couldn’t help but sob as she was being reprimanded, “I didn’t want to worry you two.”
“Oh, so hiding your wounds from us means that you’re not letting us worry? Don’t you know how heartbroken we will feel after finding out about it? If you don’t want us to worry, the right thing to do is to immediately tell us. We would’ve sent you to the hospital and stood by you.”
Yan remained silent. Even though she did it with good intentions, it was still wrong for her to hide it from her parents. After all, they were really worried about her.
“Alright. Look at the mess you’ve become after crying. What happened? Can you tell me now?” Luo Huimei asked.
After giving it a thought, Yan told her mother about everything that happened. Luo Huimei initially maintained her calmness, but toward the end, her eyes almost burnt with fire. Immediately, she jumped down the bed and rushed out.
“Mom, what are you doing?” Yan bore the pain on her leg as she tried to stop her mother.
“Don’t stop me. I want to go and kill those sons of b*tches. How dare they bully my daughter! Who do they think I am? B*stards… I won’t be called Luo Huimei unless I split their brains apart!” After knowing that her daughter was taken advantage of, Luo Huimei fumed to the point where she started to have a murderous intent.
“Mom, they are all in the police station now. The police will take care of it, so please don’t go and complicate things even further.”
“Who cares if they are in the police station? I’m a mother. Can’t I even fight for my own daughter’s justice?”
“The law will judge them and they will receive the punishment that they deserve. You need to stop this. My leg is hurting, so I can’t pull you much longer…”
Listening to Yan, Luo Huimei was startled as she lowered her head to look at her daughter’s leg. “Does your leg hurt too?”
Yan nodded. “It’s bruised, but I’ve gone for an X-ray scan. The doctor said that the bone structure is fine. I should be alright after a few days of recovery.”
No matter how angry Luo Huimei was, she stopped yelling about whacking the assailants upon realizing that her daughter’s leg was hurt. She then helped her daughter back up on the bed before checking on the latter’s injury. “Are you sure you didn’t fracture your bone? Do we need to have an X-ray scan at another hospital? It’s always better to be careful.”
